Getting Acquainted
By: SoundWrecker Date: April 6, 2014, 6:55 pm
---------------------------------------------------------
The day was calm. Peaceful, distant sounds sailed through the
air. graceful birdsong, the wind gently blowing through the
trees. Sound Wrecker sat in the kitchen of his new home, by the
open window, eyes to the clouds in the sky. Today was his first
full day living alone. He had arrived in Ponyville early in the
night, and had spent the remainder of it making himself at home,
unpacking his belongings, and finally falling asleep so late it
was in fact early morning time. He'd only woken up a few hours
ago, well past midday.
Well, this was just what I had been hoping for, Sound thought to
himself, evaluating his new residence. Ponyville was much
quieter than his old home, but not too far from anything. The
house itself matched the same criteria, roughly halfway between
the town centre and the outskirts. Yep, perfect... Everything he
could ever want here...
...So why did he miss Canterlot...?
The sunlight faded, flickering wildly, and Sound was dragged
from his thoughts back to reality. Looking up to the Sun, he
noticed what was disrupting the flow of light; two or three
Pegasi silhouettes, floating in the sky, evidently in
conversation with each other. Moments passed, and it seemed that
they had decided to go somewhere together, flying westward, away
from Sound's home, to the town centre.
Perhaps I just need to get out of the house, his thoughts
restarted, after a small pause. It would do some good to take a
walk. See the sights. Familiarise himself with the area. Slowly
clambering to his hooves, Sound made his way out of the kitchen,
through the main room, and out of the door.
A mild hubbub filled the town centre, as mares and colts tended
various market stalls, making purchases for their needs and
wants, from vegetables for whatever they were going to have for
dinner, to fancy little trinkets that happened to catch their
eye. Overhead, the occasional Pegasus would make their landing
or take to the skies, to and from all sorts of directions. A
look of wonder slowly washed over Sound's face. All this was...
almost exactly like home here. Just less... busy. Less scary.
More manageable. Canterlot was utter chaos compared to this,
almost violent by comparison, in fact. Ponies would shove past
you without so much as a 'excuse me', and glare at you as if it
was your fault for being in their way. Everypony seemed much
more gracious here, from what Sound could overhear in other
conversations. He even found the odd smile being thrown his way,
even from shopkeeps as he walked past their market stall,
despite him not stopping to buy anything.
After some time, deciding he wanted to take some time to rest,
Sound came to a tree, perfectly shielding the ground beneath it
from the sunlight ahead, which was getting to be quite warm now.
He made his way to sit down in the cool shade, continuing to
take in the sights of the area. He slowly lowered his head,
laying it to rest in the soft grass, the lack of sleep from last
night starting to catch up to him. Perhaps he could just... rest
his eyes a little... for a few moments...

So much activity! So much food! Nivalia's eyes go from cart to
cart as she scans the menagerie of food and goods being offered
by the sellers. Caprica herself is still snugly napping in the
mares knapsack, the bag remaining still as the mare strolls
across the market, nodding and smiling at anypony she comes
across. This definitely reminds her of home, the nice weather,
the smiling faces, the variety of shops, granted there was a
smaller selection, but still. After a good hour of shopping,
Nivalia manages to get enough ingredients for a good dinner and
desert for later in the day. She checks her bag, her pet snake
just now poking her head out to get a view of her surroundings,
"Well, guess who's finally awake." The python slowly emerges
from the bag and slithers up over Nivalia's shoulders, her belly
slightly larger than usual. The mare begins walking again, this
time getting a few more curious looks from those she walks past.
Up in the air though, a certain hawk focuses more on the black
and white prey easily resting on her owners shoulders. Circling
around, it finds a nearby tree and swoops down to it, impartial
to the pony sleeping underneath; The hawk lands on a smaller,
brittle branch, snapping it easily with a flap of its wings it
lets the branch fall and hovers to one more stable as it
continues to eye its next meal.

Around ten to fifteen minutes had passed, and Sound's intended
quick nap had indeed slowly fallen into a state of sleep,
evident through his light snoring, and general obliviousness to
the goings-on around him. For example, a hawk attempting to land
on the tree he slept under, sharp claws grasping the branches
mere feet above his head. As said hawk struggled to find a
branch able to carry its weight, the frantic rustling of leaves
and snapping of twigs and branches finally provoked a response
from the stallion, as his ear began to twitch, showing signs of
his return to consciousness. Slowly, his right eye forced itself
open, his hoof instinctively raising to block out the
now-blinding sunlight. What was all the noise? Sound's groggy
mind couldn't make heads or tails of what it was, let alone
where it was coming from...
THUNK. Without warning, a tree branch above finally gave way,
tumbling through the air, and landing, somewhat heavily, square
on the young stallion's nose. Evidently, this is a fantastic
substitute to the average alarm clock, as Sound Wrecker jolted
into an upright sitting position with a startled yelp, his wide
eyes cast firmly skyward. Still in the tree, seemingly unfazed
by a sudden loud outburst, the bird of prey simply stared down
to the ground at the odd pony below, as he in turn glared it in
the eye, a clear look of irritation in his eye by being woken
up.

The hawk pays little mind to the pony below as it scouts its
prey. While planning its trajectory towards the snake and mare,
it quickly relieves itself before taking off into the air.
Meanwhile, Nivalia finds a bench not too far away and sits down,
going through her bag of purchased food to sort out what dessert
she'll make for the evening. Caprica, as always, simply coils up
into a ball as she rests next to her owner on the bench. "Ok
Capri, we got dinner sorted out but I don't know what to get for
dessert." Nivalia says as she scratches her head, "A filly like
Brash would probably like sweets, but there isn't much variety
here. I think there was a place that specializes in it. Oh but
what's it called again? Sugar Sphere Center?" The mare looks
over to her pet, both unknowing of the predator swooping down
from high in the sky on it. "I wonder if cookies or cake would
be a good treat. Hmm..."

Potato was on the prowl for the thief from earlier. He'd caught
sight of him twice but lost him. While somewhere near the
library, which he refused to enter due to the "all powerful
alicorn" living there, he thought he spotted the grey unicorn
running through an alley. He ran as fast as he could, his cape
gallantly flowing in the air behind him.
When he exited the alley he found himself back in the market
again. He saw no sign of the unicorn. There were no hoof prints
or anything in alley, and the guards had been alerted by now but
none of the ones in the market were chasing after somepony. That
could have easily been because the guards were lazy, but still.
The potato themed superhero thought he saw another flash of gray
run by and rubbed his eyes. Nothing. This guy was either really
good or PoPo was going crazy. And the thief didn't appear to be
particularly good.
The potato themed superhero mentally shrugs it off and decides
that while he was there he would pay the shopkeeper from
earlier. While he scans around the market looking for the stall
he'd run off from earlier, when something wet hits his mane. He
reaches up to see what it is. He then looks up to see what
decided to relieve itself in his hair, which happened to take a
good amount of time and hair gel to get it to look good with his
mask.
Apparently a hawk needed to do his business right in his hair.
Yeah. Great.
The superhero lets out a sigh as he sees a bench here he can sit
down and get something from the infinite hammer space that his
cape to clean himself up. But before he does he notices the mare
from that morning. What was her name? "Flivalius" He thinks and
is about to say hi to her when when he sees the hawk swooping in
for a quick bite of the snake Fliv was so obsessed with.
"HEY LOOKOUT!" He yells at the mare, who appeared to be thinking
about whether she needed professional help since she was always
hung out with a snake and was probably a loner.
The superhero then grabs the snake from it's bally coil on the
bench, moving it out of the way of the hawk since the mare
seemed to be a little "Your snake is about to get eaten"
impaired.

It took a moment for Sound to realise it was probably an absurd
thing to have a grudge against a bird. However, had he taken any
longer to stand up and take a few steps forward, that grudge
would probably have persisted, and greatly intensified, given
the creature's next... motions... before making its leave. If
Sound didn't know any better, he'd have guessed that was
intentional. Who knew birds were capable of being such jerks?
With no real desire to go anywhere in particular, Sound
contemplated whether or not he had had enough of being outside
today. It had been about a half-hour, but he'd evidently spent
half of that sleeping like a log. There was a heck of a lot more
of Ponyville to see.
...Like, for example... some sort of superhero, apparently.
Sound had caught sight of it, just out of the corner of his eye,
a brown pony in a matching cape. What in the name of...? There
were just no words for this. Did this guy lose a bet or
something?
He seemed to be causing a fuss of some sort, having yelled at
someone to 'look out', ran up to a mare and took her scarf- Oh,
that was a snake?
"...Th-This town is... just c-crazy..." Sound was beginning to
wonder if he was still asleep, as he took some steps toward the
scene, deciding that the obscenity of it was all too much to
ignore.

Nivalia jumps back when she hears a shout right next to her,
"Ah! For what!?". Caprica herself quite startled when she's
abruptly lifted; the python puffs herself up in defense and
readies for a strike. The hawk though has already begun its
dive, and by the time the hero moves its prey, the bird's talons
are outstretched, this time aimed for the caped crusader. The
hawk lets out a cry as it changes course at the last second, the
tail feathers brushing against Potato Pony's mane. Caprica
suddenly lunges past Potato Pony's head, managing to tag the
bird with its fangs as it flies away, a few drops of blood
landing on the ground as the python coils back into a ball once
again. "Oh my goodness! I'm so sorry!" Nivalia says as she
gently takes her pet back, "Are you alright? She didn't bite you
did she?" She looks back into the space of air that the hawk
once occupied, "Malditos halcones!" The python uncoils
and slithers to her standard spot and position around the mare's
shoulders, "It's not the first time a bird tried to eat h-"
Nivalia stops when she sees the droppings on the hero's head,
"Oh mierda, it pooped on your head!" Wasting no time she
goes into her bags and retrieves a rag, "Here, you can use this.
Gracias for stopping that flying rat."

The potato themed superhero replies to Niv's worries if he's OK
with "Yeah I'm fine. Your snake didn't bite me or anything.
Actually I think that hawk got it worse than I did." He then
gets a confused look on his face when the crazy snake mare uses
Spanish (or whatever the pony equivalent is) because Potato
doeesn't know any other language besides Equestrian and his home
country's modified version of Equestrian.
When PoPo is offered the rag he takes it and begins trying to
get the poo out of his mane, not asking questions as to why the
crazy snake mare has a rag with her on a shopping trip. "Yeah,
it's no big deal. Just doing what I can." the superhero replies
upon Niv's "Gracias", which Potato assumes means "Thank you for
saving me you big, handsome stallion. Also, do you work out?" in
whatever language the mare was using.
After another minute of trying to remove the poo, the superhero
feels as though he's got it and throws the rag over his back
without thinking, hitting a deep-blue colored stallion with a
somewhat shaggy, unkempt brown mane and tail, and bright green
eyes who was also slightly taller-than-average height in the
face with it.

What happened next was an unfortunate sign that poor Sound
Wrecker was most certainly not still asleep. The
superhero-dressed pony had received a rag from the grey mare of
whom was the other half of this scene. After using it to clear
from his mane the mess that the jerk-bird had made, he discarded
it. By throwing it straight into Sound's face.
With a sudden, sharp scream, the colt dropped to the floor, his
front hooves scrambling madly at the rag, tearing it away from
his face and hurling it to the ground.

Nivalia slightly winces when she sees the rag plop on the
unsuspecting Pony's face. His reaction though does cause the
mare to giggle as her pet rests quietly on her shoulders. "Are
you ok? It's just a rag, don't worry." She then pauses, "Well, a
very dirty rag but still."
