"Actually," Brash says before Jewel can speak, "You can stick
around here and I'll figure it out myself, feel free to find
another job to do on the side." Brash turns to leave before a
shadow envelopes her and she's suddenly taken into the sky by
       Carri.
"Let me explain!" Carri pleads as they head off towards the
       park.

Carri returns to see Jewel still around, landing in front of her
she gives a big wave. "Hi! Sorry about that. Uh..." Carri tries
to recall the prior topic, "Did you get the job?"

       ---------------------------------------------------------
Jewel stands up as straight as she could as Brash set about
promptly measuring different parts of her, though as soon as the
bag of five bits was placed in front of her, Jewel looked down
at it and thought to herself quietly so as not to disturb Brash.
So this was what it felt like to be paid for something, why was
it so unfulfilling? Maybe it was just because she wasn't used to
the idea of working for money, or the fact that she expected to
have to do a little more to earn it, but bits were bits, and for
a pony that would have to be struggling to break even over the
next months or even years, she would take what she could get
       where she could get it.
When Brash asked asked Jewel what else she could do, Jewel
opened her mouth to answer only getting out a "Well, uhh--"
before she was cut off, told to stick around for a while while
Brash figured it out. Suddenly, Jewel found herself alone in
this strange place, looking around at the different things. This
was all so foreign to her, perhaps it would be best to stay
where she was for now. Scooping up the five bits, she placed
them in her saddlebag before finding an empty wall to sit
against, waiting for either of them to come back.
When Carri came back Jewel looked up and said quietly, "Well, I
was paid for something, so I -guess- I got the job. Brash wanted
me to tell her what else I'm good at doing other than..." she
swallowed a little indignantly, "... other than standing around.
I didn't really get the chance to say, though. Where did she
       go?"

"Busy, busy!" Carri answers, "I'll tell her your answer though
if you'd like, and don't worry if you don't know 'cause Brash
will still have things you can do." She nods reassuringly.

"Oh," Jewel replies plainly, unsure of what else she could
expect. Brash did seem to be the kind of pony who had too many
things to deal with at any one time and thus had to be
everywhere at the same time, very busy that is. If she was busy
though, and unable to give Jewel something to do to justify what
she was being paid, then what was Jewel to do other than stand
there with Carri, who may or may not have had something to do.
Then again, maybe she was stuck in the same boat. "Well, if you
are okay with telling her, my guardians once told me I was very
good with working with gems, and I don't mind them, I guess.
I've wondered a few times what being a jewelry-making pony would
be like." She paused before adding quickly, "But I don't want to
give Brash the wrong idea about her hiring me, I'm also good at
       standing around!"

Carri nods frantically with a smile, attempting to absorb this
information. When she stops she unleashes a deep gasp, "Gems?
Brash did say something about a pile of sapphires she's been
saving up. We're not allowed in the basement when she isn't here
but I'm sure she needs something done with those."
It then dawns upon Carri that Brash is busy and she's been left
with no tasks, no direction. "Free time!" She cheers and takes
to the air, darting into her room through the second floor
window. She then flies out with a wooden chest and drops it in
from of Jewel, landing beside it. "Wanna play anything?" Carri
cracks open the chest to reveal a large variety of stuffed
       animal toys.

       ---------------------------------------------------------
Jewel flinched and recoiled once more as the chest was dropped
out of the air right in front of her. As much as it had been
happening to her of late, she would probably never get used to
the idea of heavy objects nearly landing on her. What could this
chest have been full of, and what did it have in relation to
free time? She found out soon enough as Carri opened the chest
to reveal any young fillies' delight: an entire collection of
stuffed animals. Peering into the chest, Jewel was immediately
awestruck; these were the kind of stuffed animals that some of
the children in the orphanage would have to fight over because
of how popular they were, and because of that Jewel never really
had a chance to use them.
Being eighteen years old however, Jewel wondered if she could
even play with those without drawing looks of ridicule. They
were children's toys for a reason, and Jewel's childhood had
passed her by. She wasn't supposed to be playing with toys
anymore, right? She was too old for that. Besides, she had
responsibilities now. She had to find someplace to live so she
didn't have to spend the night outside in the cold, even if it
was still early. Jewel looked about as she and Carri sat
outside, sighing before she said, "Maybe later, Carri. I don't
really have anyplace to stay the night, and I don't want to have
to sleep outside. If I could find a place to live for the time
being, then I might be able to play, but until then..." she let
the sentence drop, figuring that Carri knew the rest.

"Didn't Brash invite you to stay? There should be a cot inside."
Carri thinks for a moment, "But if you want to find your own
place I'd understand." She nods slowly closing the chest back
       up.

Jewel perked up a little when Carri mentioned that Brash had
invited her to stay at this place, and that there was a cot
inside. Perhaps she just wasn't paying attention at the time, or
too focused on not messing up her only task of standing in one
place to realize that she had been offered a place to stay. She
wasn't sure if staying in a place like this would necessarily be
good for her health, but surely it was better than the
alternative. "No, no..." Jewel began, "I'm fine with staying
here. It's not like I have anywhere else I can go. Could you
show me where it is, if it isn't too much of a trouble for you
       that is..."

Carri does an aerial flip in excitement and slams the chest to
make sure it's shut tight. "This way!" She announces, grabbing
hold of the chest and flying into the house, stopping at a
flight of stairs in the back.
The first floor is terribly dusty with stray pieces of broken
wood and small metal objects splayed across the ground. The
stairs look unstable, but the worst they would do is creak
heavily under any reasonable weight. Carri makes sure Jewel is
following before heading up. The second floor is very clean with
a fluffy pink carpet, a large bed and one cot, a big dresser,
and broken windows. The forest green folding cot stands out in
the brightly colored room and Carri retrieves another from the
dresser to place nearby the one that was already out. "Brash
says if anypony that ends up staying here is willing to help, we
could renovate the building for business and make more bedrooms
in the process. Until then, infinite sleepovers!"
