       ---------------------------------------------------------
Another meteor shower? Didn't they have one some months ago as
well? If Gleam, and even Gladius, recalled correctly, that last
one had passed very close by the planet as well. Huh. So,
another one was going to do the same so soon? That was...
Interesting... Gleam felt something tickling the back of his
brain as he thought about that, the older unicorn knowing it was
reminding him of something but being unable to put his hoof on
it. He made a mental note to check a few of his "remind me"
journals later to see if that really was a thing or if he was
just having his brain play with him that night.
Gladius in the mean time had taken to watching Windy as the
smaller pegasus nervously moved to show off his discovery to the
Princess. Not having much in the way of adding, nor being
entirely familiar with how exactly to go about speaking around
the princess he wasn't quite used to, Gladius stayed where he
was, eventually going from watching Windy to glancing around the
room and finally just... Kinda staring at nothing...

Luna walks gracefully up to the smaller telescope, giving the
small pegasus a smile before she places her eye to the eyepiece
and looking through. "Well well, young astronomer, thou hast
quite the keen eye. Tell me, where didst thou learn to peer
into the vastness of space and discern the mysteries of the
void?" She gives the pegasus another smile, then takes note of
the telescope's positioning, degrees and minutes before hovering
back over to the larger stargazing tool. That one she changes
to match the alignment of the smaller one, then peers through it
       once more.

Woodwind shifts nervously, one hoof lightly tapping random
patterns on the ground as Luna steps over to look through the
telescope. He looks over at Gladius, hoping to find some
reassurance. The guard was looking elsewhere though, apparently
bored. Woodwind's ears lay back, and he glances over at Luna.
The brown pegasus' gaze turns to the floor when she asks where
he learned about astronomy, and he fidgets some more, taking a
glance over at Gleam. The elderly unicorn still has his
notebook, and the princess is expecting an answer from him. He
swallows and takes a deep breath, hoping that Luna knows how to
understand Morse Code and that he doesn't make himself look like
a fool. 'I just read a lot of books on it.' He taps, eyes going
back to the floor ashamedly. 'I've never really taken a
class...' He looks up as she goes over to the larger telescope,
and while she's distracted he creeps over toward Gladius, the
pegasus feeling more comfortable with a friend at his side.

"Apparently he's completely self taught," Gleam chimed in while
keeping his eyes on the journal he'd taken for his work, a few
pens being held in his magic and being expertly manipulated so
as to write a number of things down at once, "I had this same
conversation with him before you arrived, Princess. no actual
       education in astronomy. "
"Which I thought we've established didn't mean anything,"
Gladius responded after being shaken from his blank stare when
Windy moved closer to him, "the space rock is there, isn't it?"
"Yes, its there." Gleam relied with a sigh, "take a deep breath,
count back from twenty and try not to wet yourself. I wasn't
about to say that the discovery should be dismissed. In fact, if
you'll notice, I actually have my hooves full here trying to
       record everything."

"Please, sirs, keep thy tones civil. What impression would ye
leave on this budding stargazer? Nopony has questioned the
validity of his find, sir guard, certainly not based upon his
lack of formal higher education. Why, if anything, it just
makes his discovery more impressive. Though, while we're on the
subject," Luna says, smiling gently down to the pegasus, "All
thy learning came from books? On th-"
She's doing it again. She's trying to put him at his ease, not
formalize everything. Talk like a young pony would. Right.
"On your," she continues, stretching out the word to try to
convince herself that it's what should go there. It still
sounds so different..."own initiative? Hast- Have you
considered any institutions of higher learning?"

Woodwind glances over at Gleam when he comments on the pegasus'
lack of education, his ears going back and his head lowering
toward the floor. He's sure the princess is going to dismiss his
find as just being lucky. After all, who would believe somepony
with no training at all could actually find something on their
own? He doesn't look up when Gladius defends him, just staring
at the floor. Until Luna says his lack of real training just
makes his find more impressive. He looks up at her, still
nervous, and shakes his head. 'I just think it's fun.' He taps
out. 'I always loved looking at the sky.' He hangs his head
again ashamedly at her last question. 'I want to find somewhere,
but I haven't ever gotten around to it."

       ---------------------------------------------------------
Luna's smile broadens at his statement of enjoyment and she
turns her gaze upward toward the sky, clear and bright. "Yes,
'tis such a beautiful place to look. Its pulchritude knows no
bounds, in sunlight or in moonlight. A work of art. A vast
vacuum of nothing that holds everything..." He saw beauty in
her night. Are there others like him, who stay out after dark
merely for the joy of it? There were none before her
banishment, or...had she just been looking in all the wrong
places? She sighs and looks back down towards the Pegasus with
his next admission. Oh dear. Razzleberries. He looks
positively ashamed. Was it something she said? And why is he
so nervous? It's a far cry better than the fear she exacted
when she returned by her mere presence, but...not far enough.
"W-well," she stutters for an instant before clamping down on
her momentarily shaky voice. "Nopony is rushing th-you. You
have plenty of time yourself, and surely you have other
priorities. There is no shame in spending your time how you'd
like." A light tap from the doorway catches her attention. The
guards stand at the door, just as motionless as when they first
arrived, but one is now meeting her eyes. He gives her a nod,
       then faces forward again.
"Speaking of time, our own here is come to an end, we're
afraid." She glances wistfully at the telescope one more time,
then once through the lens. This could very well be the only
time she ever saw the young pegasus and had opportunity to speak
with him, and to have his only meeting with her to be so
uncomfortable for him...if she could just induce a smile from
       him before leaving...
The thought occurs to her. Would it be safe? This large,
expensive instrument is rather fragile if not treated
properly...but Gleam is there, and he no doubt would be able to
ensure its safety. Luna backs up a step or two and motions to
the large telescope, smiling once more at...she hasn't asked his
name, even. "Would you like to take a glance at your discovery
through this, young...I haven't caught your name?"

Woodwind looks upward when the princess does, watching the
glittering lights through the gap in the observatory roof for a
few moments. His eyes fall back to the floor soon enough though,
as the shame comes back to him, though not quite as strong this
time. He doesn't really have anything better that he does with
his time, spending most of it either reading books or sitting
alone outside, watching the sky. He doesn't say anything, though
he does glance over at the guards at the door when they give a
tap and apparently pass some silent message to the starry-maned
mare. He looks at her for a moment, not sure if he should be
feeling relieved that she has to go, or disappointed that he
hadn't taken full advantage of what was probably his only chance
to meet one of the princesses. He looks over at Gladius for a
moment, but the guard doesn't seem to be paying much attention
to the conversation. He turns his head back toward the princess
when she starts talking again, and even looks up at her fully
when she offers to let him use the big telescope. He looks over
at it, missing her question for a few seconds as he stares at
the telescope. After a moment he looks back over at her, his
ears falling back as he realizes he's ignored her question.
'It's Woodwind.' He finally answers after a moment, glancing
back over at the telescope but not making a move to go use it,
feeling like he disrespected Luna by not answering immediately.

Not even a sign of a smile. Not a lip twitch, not a curl,
nothing. Luna sighs inwardly. Clearly just her presence is
making him uncomfortable. As another tap coming from her escort
confirms, she doesn't have more time to rectify that, either.
Royal duties and all that. Ah, well. It is the way it is. She
recomposes herself, standing straighter and donning an
expression more dignified. "Very well, Woodwind. Thy princess
bids thee well, and expresses her pleasure at having met thee.
May sweet moonbeams watch when ye depart and guide thee safely
to thy home. A blessed knight to all of thee. Gleam. Guard,"
she bids to them with nods before striding regally from the
room, head held high. She considers tacking on an apology,
but...what exactly for? The pair of guards at the door turn and
soundlessly follow her as she crosses the threshold.

Woodwind nods at Luna's farewell, his hoof hesitating a few
inches above the floor, not sure if it's proper to bid her the
same. In the end, he waits too long, and she turns to head for
the door. He tries to get her to wait as she's walking away, but
his tapped message is too quiet for her to hear and she's
already at the door. He sighs as Luna leaves, feeling like he
messed up talking to the princess. She probably thinks he hates
her, or something like that. His shoulders slump and he drops
his gaze to the floor for a few moments. He glances back up
after a while though, eyes going to the big telescope. Luna had
offered to let him use it, he's not sure if that still stands,
given that he'd apparently driven her off. The light brown
pegasus sighs again, and looks over at Gladius. "Can I use the
telescope? Or... Maybe I should just go." He taps, and looks
over at the door. Leaving would probably be best really, let
Gleam get back to his potions...
