       Jewel
By: Jewel Date: March 31, 2014, 12:18 pm
       ---------------------------------------------------------
       Name: Jewel
       Race: Earth Pony
       Gender: Mare
       Age: 18

Physical Description: Jewel is a mare with a malachite coloured
coat, a medium-length topaz coloured mane with a small ponytail
in the back, and eyes the colour of rose quartz. She is a little
underweight for her age. Her cutie mark is a cut ruby.
Special Talent: Jewel's talent is centred around gemstones. She
can easily point out what is what, determine what is more
valuable, and what is fake and real when it comes to precious
       stones.
Likes: Jewel enjoys most social interactions that don’t make her
misfortune their subjects, whether they be bullying or ponies
taking advantage of her weakness. She has a stuffed teddy bear
that she has managed to keep a hold of throughout her years as
an orphan that she still takes solace in.

Dislikes: Rejection and isolation, interfering in the lives of
       others in even the slightest.
Strengths: Jewel has never had a chance to actually demonstrate
any sort of strength in herself, though if she were to suddenly
enter a bout of positivity, she could say that she is a good
listener who had a strong sense of empathy.
Weaknesses: If one were to tell Jewel that her picture was in
the dictionary next to 'gullible', she would look for it. She
would then feel sad that she is still as insignificant as she
was. Because of the fact that an orphanage is not exactly the
happiest place for one that is aware that they have no parents,
Jewel is often described as a bit of a sulk.
Fears: Her greatest fear is being left alone, and it is a fear
that she has had to live with for her entire life without
reprieve. Now that one of her greatest fears of never being
taken in by adoptive parents has been realized though, what else
is left for her? It is what she has to think about that now, and
her new greatest fear is now that there isn’t, in fact, anything
left for her in the world.
Bio: Nearly 18 years ago, when the Guardian Angels Orphanage
first opened its doors, one of the first newborns to arrive at
its doorstep was a malachite-coloured earth pony, left crying in
the wake of her fleeing mother and father who had abandoned her
there. She was found a few minutes later by the Orphanage Mother
and taken in without hesitation. The original parents were never
found or identified, and remained completely anonymous to both
the caretakers and the daughter they left behind.
Being without a name, one of the Mothers gave her the nickname
'Jewel', as she seemed to enjoy playing with the collection of
toy gemstones the orphanage had. The nickname soon became her
real name. She grew up amongst the other orphans, making a few
friends every so often, but those friends never lasted long.
Nearly every month, there would be a point where Jewel would
wake up and go to find her friend, and find out that they were
selected to be adopted, and that she would never see them again.
It got to the point where Jewel stopped trying, afraid of more
separation pains and the fact that more and more of the children
were beginning to pick on her behind the Mothers' backs. She
started keeping to herself, keeping only the teddy bear she was
given for comfort when she arrived for company, which in turn
made her less appealing to the other more happy and active
children. During this time alone, she would think about what it
was like to have parents, somepony that wanted to see her every
day and wanted to take care of her just so she could stop being
       so sad throughout the day...
It wasn't long before her thinking led to a devastating
deduction. Parents keep children because the children are both
loved and wanted. If her parents had abandoned her on the
doorstep of the orphanage, then that meant that she was neither
loved nor wanted, not by her true parents or any of the
potential adoptive parents. She didn't have anymore friends, the
Mothers eventually became weathered and apathetic from dealing
with so many children and never had time for her anymore, and
every time she looked out the window, she would see mothers and
fathers playing and laughing with their children, all while
Jewel stayed in the orphanage, the warm home that she grew up in
slowly starting to feel more and more like a cold prison.
Her outlook changed very slowly after that. Month after month of
watching so many other children being picked to live happy lives
with a family, as she was always glossed over took its toll on
her emotions. She felt unwanted and unloved. Jewel would spend
hours in states of depression, rocking herself back and forth in
a corner away from the taunts of other children and critical
looks of adoptive parents. She still held onto hope that
someday, somepony would want her, but every day that passes and
the date that she comes of age gets nearer, her hope is whittled
away. In a few years, she would be living on the streets, and it
was an outlook that brought her to tears, every day of her life.
And it was a scenario, that has now, sadly, come true.
