Foxtrot nods as Mesa descends onto the platform, "Yes to both
questions. And..." The unicorn's grin grows a bit more when he
takes out the rather plump bag of bits and tosses it to Mesa,
"There's pay involved. We can split it even once we get out of
here, speaking of which..." He looks down at the armor, "I gotta
get this off." Foxtrot takes off the helmet and pulls his hoof
back as he aims for the landscape beside them; he hesitates,
sighs, and simply places the helmet gently and properly onto the
floor. Removing the rest of the armor, Foxtrot glances over to
the pegasus, "How were things on your end?"

Mesa's eyes widened as she caught the bag in one hoof. "But I
didn't really do anything," she protested. "I'm not even an
agent of MA... MAS... Whatever. The 26. I can't..." she trailed
off, watching Foxtrot resist throwing the helmet with a trace of
amusement. But her smile faltered at the question. "Oh... Uh,
good. I guess. The guard woke up once. But I hit him... much
harder than I probably needed to, so I would guess he'll be out
for awhile." Mesa briefly considered suggesting they should
check to make sure she hadn't done any real harm, but she knew
she wouldn't be able to bring herself to look at how still he
was again... So she fell silent, not meeting Foxtrot's gaze as
she studied the bag of bits. "And thank you, but I can't accept
any of it. You can take it all," she said firmly. Mesa couldn't
bear the thought of being paid for hurting somepony. She set the
bag on the ground and slid it back toward the unicorn, finally
looking up to meet his eyes. "And you? Doing fine? You seemed
like you were a little... nervous for a minute there."

A weak smile appears on Foxtrot's face when Mesa asks him how
he's doing, breaking away from her gaze as he lightly kicks the
ground. "Yea, I figured you caught that too." He looks to the
guard armor resting on the ground, "Ah to hay with it, you
deserve to know. Especially after all of this trouble." The
growing sound of hoofsteps can then be heard, since they all
seem to be in cadence, it's safe to assume it's the real Royal
Guard. "I'll tell you after we're done talking to these guys."
       Foxtrot looks over to find five guards stop and look around;
when the captain enters the scene, he sees Foxtrot and Mesa as
well as a set of Royal Guard armor. His expression is stern,
almost as if he was going to place the order to arrest them, "I
assume you two have a good reason for not only bringing us out
here, but trespassing here and making one of my soldiers
       disappear."
"Not to worry captain," Foxtrot says as he raises his hoof, "I
can explain the whole thing in 5 sentences."
"You have three." the captain retorts as his guards begin to
spread out and examine the platform.
Foxtrot lowers his hoof, "Oh uh..." The unicorn begins to look
around as he thinks of his three sentences; to start he points
to the pile of armor on the floor, "Your guy was in on this and
is now on the roof unconscious." Head swiveling around again he
points to the train car, "Poachers are in there and have the
papers your guard gave them containing clearance for their
cargo." Finally he points to the crates still covered up, "Their
cargo over there actually being full of bears."
"And that bag of bits?" the captain asks with a raised brow.
"Oh! That was the the money the guard was going to get for the
papers and clearance." Foxtrot answers, glancing back to Mesa,
"That pretty much sums it up, right?"

"Um, alright," Mesa said uncertainly, at Foxtrot's promise to
tell her later. Deserve to know what? she wondered, her concern
for Foxtrot still evident. Her ears perked up at the approaching
hoofsteps of the guards, and as the captain came into view, she
straightened up. She had actually never met a Royal guard
face-to-face, and she wouldn't deny that she felt a little
intimidated. The captain's stern look and words didn't help
       either, and Mesa swallowed nervously.
She watched the exchange between the captain and Foxtrot
silently, surprise crossing her face when the tan unicorn
addressed her. "Um...yes, I think that's pretty much it." She
paused, before quickly adding, "But the guard on the roof,
somepony should probably make sure he'll be okay." She
immediately looked both relieved that she had gotten at least a
little guilt off her chest, and slightly embarrassed for
speaking up in the presence of the captain.

The captain nods to Mesa, "That would explain why they're not
here. Thank you for letting us know." he glances over to one of
the other officers, "Check the roof and get our guy down here,
I'm sure he'll have a lot to talk about." Looking over to the
other guards, he points to the train, "Secure the wildlife and
the poachers, I want them all in the station in 30."
As the first guard the captain addressed flies over to the roof,
he lands and calls out to the others, "Sir! It looks like
there's a backpack and a... guitar up here?"
"Oh, those are mine actually." Foxtrot speaks up, "I left them
there so they wouldn't get damaged. Can you pass that over?" A
moment later the guard hovers over to them with the unicorn's
things, "Thank you." With Foxtrot's things returned, the guard
returns to the unconscious pony on the roof.
The feint growls from the kennels begin to grow as the bears
begin to wake up. The captain looks over as the officers secure
the animals, "We'll bring in an expert to check on them before
we let them go." Looking back to Mesa and Foxtrot he gives a
courteous nod, "On behalf of the Royal Guard and the town of
Ponyville I'd like to thank you for your actions."

Mesa just kept to herself as the captain gave his officers
orders, scuffing her hoof on the ground with a faint nervousness
that so many guards brought her. She looked over as she heard
the bears waking up, giving a nod at the captain's mention to
have them checked before they were released. When he turned back
to thank her and Foxtrot, Mesa looked stunned, before relaxing a
little and smiling a bit more genuinely. See? I did the right
thing, she told herself. "Glad to help," she said, with a
respectful nod in return. She glanced back at Foxtrot, wondering
exactly what to do at that point. Could they just leave? It
certainly didn't sound like they were under arrest...

Foxtrot gives the captain a casual salute, whom simply nods and
returns to his work. "Well that was a good start to the day." He
glances over to the clock, "I guess we've managed to kill a few
       hours."
"FREEZE! Drop your weapons and put your hoofs behind your head!"
One of the officers shout as the guards open the train car
holding the poachers. "You're all under arrest!" The hunters,
looking rather shocked, simply do what the authorities say, most
of their weapons in the corner of the car.
One by one they each hopped out and was cuffed; the pegasus
being the last one out. "As he was told his rights he looks
around and sees Foxtrot and Mesa, absolute rage in his
expression. "You bastard!" he shouts, taking a few steps towards
them before being apprehended by the officers, " Do you know how
much planning went into that!? I'll kill you! When I get out,
you're a dead pony!" As he's dragged away in a slew of
obscenities the hunters are finally taken to the station.
Foxtrot simply keeps a nonchalant expression on his face during
the outburst, shrugging when the pegasus was taken away, "So yea
did you uh want to go back to the forest or do something else?"

Mesa gave a Foxtrot a faintly incredulous look at his casual
comment of managing to kill some time. He seemed so indifferent
to what had what just transpired, though Mesa reckoned that the
transaction was probably nothing compared to what he normally
did for his job. She watched as the train car was unlocked and
the poachers were arrested without much resistance. But as the
pegasus yelled and started towards her and Foxtrot angrily, Mesa
stiffened. She glanced towards Foxtrot as the poacher was
dragged away, wary of his possible reaction. But the stallion
       didn't appear to be phased.
She raised one eyebrow at his casualness. "I guess you get death
threats often?" She asked, then paused at the question. She did
want to go back and explore more of the Everfree sometime, but
she was still shaken up about knocking out the guard. And she
knew all too well that it simply wasn't safe to explore unknown
and potentially dangerous territory when you were distracted. "I
don't know about you, but I think I'll save more exploring for
another day. What do you say to heading into town and leaving
the guards to do whatever they need to do? You can tell me what
you were going say before the guards came," she added curiously,
       nudging him with her wing.

Foxtrot nods as he begins walking towards the town square, "Yea,
I figured saving wildlife counts as a good reason to get a
snack. But yea the death threats... I come across them a few
times in my line of work but after a while it's just like...
meh. A good 80% of those that tell me that don't even bother
afterwards, and the other 19% that try but fail." He pauses when
he remembers what he has to tell Mesa, his casual demeanor
turning to one of thoughtfulness and caution. "As for what I was
gonna say well..." Foxtrot glances to the ground, not really
sure how to actually begin. "You recall during the transaction
with the hunters when I uh, tensed up a bit? It's um..." The
unicorn stops speaking once again, staying quiet for a moment
before letting out a frustrated sigh, "I have... PTSD, post
traumatic stress disorder; also known as shell shock, battle
fatigue, etc. It's a mental condition one gets from experiencing
a traumatic event of course; soldiers such as myself get them
from their work in the field. Symptoms include flashbacks,
seeing and hearing things that aren't there, and... stuff." His
gaze drops to the ground, too embarrassed to look at the pegasus
anymore, "I've had it for about a year now, and I can control it
most of the time it's just... Putting on that guard's armor; it
made it more difficult to keep in control." Foxtrot remains
silent for a moment before looking back to Mesa, "Sorry if I...
I don't know, freaked you out or anything."

Mesa followed after Foxtrot, confusion crossing her face at the
percentages. Mathematics had never been her strong point; in
fact, she had recieved little beyond very basic schooling as a
foal, but she was quite sure that 80 and 19 didn't add up go be
       100. She was about to ask just what the other 1% was, when
Foxtrot continued and then paused again. Mesa nodded at him
encouragingly. But as she listened, she looked stunned. She
wasn't sure what she had been exoecting, but it certainly hadn't
been that. Mesa sometimes had a difficult time controlling her
memories, but to experience something so traumatic that it could
cause flashbacks and hullicinations... I can't even imagine... I
wonder what originally caused it? Mesa certainly wasn't going to
ask, but that didn't quash her morbid curiosity.
She stayed silent as Foxtrot paused again, but her head snapped
up as she heard his apology. "Foxtrot, you don't have to
apologize for something like that. I was just concerned, that's
all. I never would have guessed... I'd say sorry that you have
it, but I'm guessing it's the sort of thing a sorry won't fix."
She hesitated before continuing. "But despite it, you keep doing
what you do. You must have a lot of courage," she said,
completely sincerely, before immediately looking embarrassed and
turning her gaze back forward. She was silent for a moment, then
quietly added, "Thank you for telling me."
