Woodland Expedition
By: Foxtrot Date: March 18, 2014, 12:30 pm
---------------------------------------------------------
The rays of the sun began to emerge as daylight set on
Ponyville. Foxtrot yawns as the light hits his face, waking him
up out of his comfy bench. He reaches over and grabs his things,
out of habit making another inventory check before picking
everything up and getting on his way. Still too early to do
anything, the unicorn takes the time to walk around the village
a few times until the clock struck 10. "Alright, time to get
going." He says, with a little excitement in his step; in a
short amount of time he finally ends up at the inn, nodding to
the staff as he walks in and waits for Mesa to arrive.

Mesa took several minutes to completely wake up, letting out a
contented sigh as she stretched her hooves above her head. 'I
haven't slept like that for months.' She rolled over to check
the clock. She and Foxtrot hadn't set an exact time to meet, but
she was sure she couldn't have slept in too-
The small clock on the bedside table read 10:05.
Mesa bolted out of the bed, swearing under her breath. 'Thank
Celestia I packed everything last night,' she thought
gratefully, buckling on her saddlebags with one hoof and hastily
trying to smooth her mane with the other. Strapping on her
crossbow and knife, she practically tripped over her still
sleepy hooves as she headed towards the door at full speed. She
sprinted into the main part of inn, catching sight of Foxtrot
and wincing. She trotted over to him, hoping she didn't look as
completely disheveled as she felt. "Foxtrot! I'm so sorry, I
can't believe I slept in so much," she said, her embarrassment
evident. "Have you been waiting long?"

Foxtrot looks over as Mesa trots over to him; as she apologizes
he simply lifts his hoof up to object, a smile already growing
on his face for multiple reasons, "Mesa it's fine I've just
gotten here myself." The unicorn looks at her mane, still
showing signs of bed head. "I take it you just woke up. Thats
good; it means you got a good nights sleep. Just take it easy,
were not in a rush."

Mesa looked chagrined at Foxtrot noticing she just got up, then
chuckled. "Is it that obvious? But yeah, I slept a lot better
than I have in a long time; I forgot how much I missed a real
bed. What about you? Slept well? And all ready to go? I can't
have you keeling over in the middle of our exploring," she said
with a grin, and starting heading towards the door.

Foxtrot follows Mesa outside, "Yea I got a good amount of sleep,
I'm set." He lightly stretches and shakes off a yawn, the day
itself has gone well so far, only small patches of clouds dotted
the sky above. By now the town also has awoken; the residents
going about their daily business as usual. The unicorn looks
over, "Did you want to stop by the markets for a snack?"

Mesa's ears perked up at Foxtrot's suggestion. She hadn't been
planning on breakfast, but she supposed it would be better to
not have to dip in the rations in her bags, if she didn't have
to. "Sure, that might be a good idea. As you said, no rush. We
have plenty of daylight." She glanced up at the few clouds,
looking pleased. "And looks like the weather might cooperate as
well." She paused, looking back at Foxtrot. "So... Was there a
particular reason you wanted to come along? Did you want to see
something specific?"

Foxtrot shrugs when Mesa asks him the question, "Well I'd figure
if I'm gonna stay here for a while, I might as well know the lay
of the land. I have no clue what to exactly expect; though from
my time in the guard I do expect the occasional timberwolves,
manticores, and other creatures." He glances over to Mesa, "Plus
the chance to explore with a professional, well, that's a nice
bonus too." Foxtrot pauses, then looks forward as he remembers
something else, "Oh and poison joke, I know those need to be
avoided at all costs." After a short walk the two finally reach
the markets, "So anything in particular you wanted to get? I was
just going to get some coffee."

Mesa nodded in agreement at Foxtrot's mention of the poison
joke; she had only stumbled into the bright blue flower once,
and that one time had been plenty for the brown pegasus. She
looked around as they reached the market, shrugging at Foxtrot's
question. "Hm... I don't need much, just something to get me
going... Ooh!" Passing a small pear stand and backpedaling, Mesa
trotted over and pulled out a couple bits. "Just one, please,"
she ordered, accepting a pear and returning to Foxtrot. "This
will be enough for me," she said cheerfully, taking a large bite
of the juicy green fruit.

Foxtrot lightly chuckles, "Alright uh, coffee..." He looks
around to find a small booth serving hot beverages. The unicorn
walks over and places his order. A minute later he returns with
a fresh cup of coffee, taking a sip and pausing due to the
excessive heat in his mouth. "Ok, too hot to drink right now.
Let's get going."

Mesa just nodded as she continued eating her breakfast, heading
out of the markets at a brisk trot and towards the edge of town.
Though she had noticed a dirt path that led from the town into
the forest when she had first arrived, she didn't head towards
it. 'After all, exploring isn't half as interesting if you stay
on a path,' she reasoned, finishing off her pear and speeding up
as they neared the edge of Ponyville, the prospect of venturing
into unknown territory waking her fully up.
