When the train came into view some ways away, Bastion stepped
forward a little bit as he readjusted his things on himself,
making sure one last time he still had everything with him
before he glanced over to Blossom, grinning a little bit at her
question. "What do you mean? Of course I'm anticipating some
sort of encounter like that? Are you kidding me? Think about how
cool a story like that would be to tell, especially to my kids
and grandkids. 'Hey, did I ever tell you kids about the time I
went into the Everfree, explored some old ruins, and slew a
monster? Good times'." He grinned at her a little bit longer
before the train slowed to a stop, where he then waited for
their tickets to be shown to the attendant before stepping
inside with Blossom and following her to what she considered
'good' seats before sitting down on a seat opposite her.

Blossom arched her eyebrows in a bit of surprise when Bastion
said it would be the sort of tale that he would want to tell his
kids and grandkids. Unlike Bastion, Blossom hadn't been
anticipating or planning ahead for how it would be if she were
to have kids herself, in fact, she wasn't even sure what she
would do with a kid. Bastion was always the one that did better
with the young ones, and went from being the armoured hulk that
he was into a gentle giant whenever there were kids present,
while the same children still perceived Blossom as the
individual to leave alone. Perhaps it was just that warm,
energetic nature that Bastion exuded whenever he knew he didn't
have to take anything seriously, or maybe he just liked kids
more than she did. She could barely even handle her kid sisters,
let alone children that weren't at all related to her.
As soon as they boarded the train, Blossom made a beeline for
one of the compartments that was empty, setting her duffel bag
beside her as Bastion took the seat opposite of her. When they
were both in their seats, Blossom closed the door to their
'room' and exhaled, sinking into the padded seat as she looked
out the window at the station, feeling a little excited now that
they were on the train. "Kids, huh?" Blossom mused as she looked
out the window before looking at Bastion again, "You already
thinking about starting a family? You always were the one who
was good with them while we were on patrol. Really, if you
weren't present most of the time when kids were involved, I'm
pretty sure I wouldn't be able to make any of them smile as you
do. Kids hate me, I guess. Did you ever think about when you
       wanted to start your family?"

Bastion hummed an, "Mmhmm," in response to Blossom when she
asked him her apparently slightly surprised question of if he
was already thinking about starting a family. He then grinned a
bit when she started reminiscing about some of the previous
patrols they did where they had to deal with kids--or rather,
Bastion dealt with the kids while Blossom stood a little off to
the side, no matter how often he tried to get her involved.
"When? ...I dunno. I mean, maybe not now, since I'm still not
quite sure I'm ready to settle down yet. Plus, y'know, I'd have
to find a mare who'd be willing to put up with me for that long,
and I still haven't even had that kind of luck with something on
a smaller scale. So, there's that. But yeah, I've already
thought about starting a family. Gonna do a better job at it
than my dad did, that's for damn sure," Bastion mumbled, a look
of distaste crossing his expression for a moment before he shook
his mind from that topic. "And kids don't 'hate' you, they're
just intimidated by how intense you are. I mean, you can be
pretty scary when you're staring someone down--I know that for a
fact. So... You don't think about kids, or starting a family?
Not even just a little bit?"

Blossom shakes her head at Bastion's question, somewhat thankful
that Bastion didn't decide to stay on the topic of his father.
She wasn't sure exactly why Bastion refused to talk about his
dad, or why he avoided it as much as he did, but she could only
guess that his father had something to do with why Bastion was
living with his grandparents while he was growing up. Maybe one
day she would work up the courage to ask him who his father was
and why bastion seems to have something against him, but maybe
not anytime soon; she has seen Bastion angry, and she doesn't
want to be in a room where it was only the two of them and he
was getting roused with anger. "In all honesty, I haven't," she
admitted with a shake of her head, beginning to undo the band
that held her ponytail in place, letting her pinkish-red mane
fall down her back before beginning to tie it back up, "I
haven't really had any good experiences with kids other than
their being loud and messy, and... je ne sais pas, I'm just in
no rush to settle down. I've had to deal with my two young
sisters already while I was growing up, and I'd expect it to be
a lot like that. I still have to find someone who can put up
       with -me-, after all."

Bastion gave another quiet hum of acknowledgement when Blossom
said she hadn't thought about settling down eventually, then
crossed his hooves over his stomach as he leaned back in his
seat. His gaze started to wander over to the window beside him,
but stopped when he noticed that she was reaching up to her
mane, presumably to let it down. He stared for a moment longer
as he realized this, subconsciously admiring the way she looked
like that, before his gaze finally made it to the window when
she pulled her hair back up in a pony tail. She then mentioned
her sisters again, making him realize that while he knew she had
siblings, he didn't really know anything about them or her
       relationship with them.
"You'll find somepony, eventually. They've just gotta be able
to... know how to handle your, what's the word... tenacity? You
look nice with your hair down like that, by the way," he
commented quietly, the calm of their cabin having an effect on
the tone of his voice. He didn't really think anything of his
words, either--considering their best friend status, he thought
he was only being truthful with her. "Your sisters... You talk
about them like you didn't get along with them. Like they
constantly got on your nerves or something. At least, you didn't
paint them in a good light when you compared raising kids to
       having to 'deal with' them."

Pulling her mane through the band, Blossom finished tying it up
and out of the way. While it was up like this, it could easily
allow her to slip her helmet on without it resulting in a mostly
hot, sweaty mess that stuck to her scalp afterwards, and because
it was so out of the way, she never even remembered most of the
time that it was up. In fact, it had become the norm for it to
be up most of the time throughout her experiences in the
military; very few times has it actually been let down. As she
finished up tying her mane into a ponytail, and after hearing
Bastion's compliment, Blossom paused in thought as she
considered the word he used to describe her. "Handle my
tenacity...?" she mused. Was that simply a nice way to call her
a stickler for rules and protocol? She usually associated a
tenacious individual with someone who had an intense
stubbornness about something, but surely -she- couldn't be that
bad. Then again, she did try very hard to take to her training
and attempting to impress her father, so maybe she was
       tenacious.
Her trying to figure out what Bastion meant by what he said
almost made her miss his little friendly compliment, to which
she gave a small smile, and a "Merci." It was a such a little
compliment, not unlike other compliments they have given each
other before, but it was enough to make her feel good about
herself. "Well, you see, as the eldest of three sisters, not
only do you kind of have to grow up with the younger two, you
are sometimes also taking care of them as well. Don't have me
mistaken, I like my sisters, but I guess we haven't really seen
eye to eye over the years. I was the only one who had an
interest in the military, I was the one keeping us out of
trouble, and I was the one with the most responsibilities.
Bubbles is still as naive and childish as ever, and as likeable
as she is, I think most of our family agreed not to let her out
of anyone's sight for too long or else she will hurt herself
trying to do something like cooking. Buttercup... well, last I
heard about her, she was getting involved in some shady things,
being with the wrong ponies. She became more and more a rebel
the more I wanted to be an officer like mon père. You'd probably
end up meeting them when we go on leave anyway, you'll see for
       yourself in time."

As Bastion laid his head against the glass of the window, he
turned his attention back over to Blossom when she started
describing her family. Though his ears were perked to her, he
barely seemed to react to her words, as there was really not
much else he could do as she spoke besides stare. He wasn't
really sure what to think; from the way Blossom spoke, it
sounded like Bubbles might have been a bit of an airhead, and
that Buttercup was... probably not somepony he would have liked
being around. Still, it wasn't really fair to judge so early
without having met them, was it? Even if he was glad to have
become best friends with what seemed like the most sensible of
the three sisters... "Must still have been nice. I always wonder
what it would've been like having siblings. Somepony else around
to get into trouble with. Just seems like it would've been
something that would've been fun." He shrugged a bit after that
and for a few moments stared out at the scenery that had
long-since begun to zoom by before continuing. "What do you
       think they'll think of me?"

Blossom scratched her cheek as she thought about Bastion's
question, trying to figure out just what her sister's would
think about the stallion that she worked with on a daily basis,
"Umm... I don't really know. I think Bubbles would like you the
most. She was the one that followed me around the most, like I
was more her best friend instead of her sister, and she would
probably want to hang around you and talk your ears off if she
had the chance. Buttercup..." Blossom paused once more, heaving
a deep sigh. Obviously there was some sort of contension that
Blossom had on the subject, "... she would probably have as much
to do with you as she does with me these days. She became one of
those rebel types we sometimes see that have a problem with
authority. If anything, she'd put up with you because our father
would still want her to maintain some level of hospitality,
that's it." Blossom shrugged as she looked out the window,
watching the ground zoom by in a blur. "Think you would want to
keep working for the military if you became a father? Pretty
dangerous job for a family stallion, lots of risk to it."

So Bubbles would've been an excitable ball of energy who did
nothing but talk. Interesting. Not what he'd consider that he'd
want to subject himself to... but as long as she didn't expect
him to respond as she babbled, then more power to her. Then
Buttercup... Sounded like any one of the angsty teens they'd
dealt with over the course of their career. Just not fun to be
around in general. Then, came Blossom's question of work and
family. He stayed quiet for a moment, still gazing out of the
window, before responding. "Dunno. Guess there are a lot of
factors. Like, where I'm at as far as being a royal guard
goes--I'd say by then I'd hope I was an officer or something
similarly high ranked. As well as who the mother is, and what
she does. Chances are I would, but until then there's just a lot
of guess work in regards to the future, which just really isn't
that smart. So yeah," he finished, following that up with a
shrug before saying. "Probably going to be a while until we
reach Ponyville. Anything you want to do to pass the time?"

Blossom leaned back on her side of the bench, humming in thought
as she tried to determine what to do to pass the time on the
train ride to Ponyville. "Well, it would probably be another
half an hour before we get there, and I have no doubt that if I
were to listen to this train and do nothing, I'd probably start
falling asleep. I don't know about you, but the idea of putting
my head on a public bench like this is very gross if you think
about what else it was used for. So that leaves just trying to
stay awake. I'm pretty sure that these kind of passenger trains
have some sort of catering car for drinks and food, so maybe we
could get a bit of coffee to help us stay awake, and just bring
it back here while we wait out the train ride? After that, I
guess we could just get ourselves ready for our immediate
deployment to the forest and go over everything once more." She
shrugged, "What do you say? Up for some coffee?"
