"That only happened, like, once," Bastion pouted to Blossom as
she took a jab at him and how he'd forgotten something in the
past. "Or... twice, or something. Bah... I'll remember. I mean,
what all do I have to pack? My armor? My sword? Some rations?
You've got that... distress beacon and the key, so that's really
the only extra things we need, right?" he said with a shrug as
he turned a corner with Blossom. "As for Gleam, 'if you have
nothing nice to say, don't say it'. That's how it goes, isn't
it? Well, you already know my opinion of him isn't very high, so
I don't need to reiterate that. Especially not when it'd make me
seem petty for doing so. I'm better than that.
"Regardless, I'm done talking about that. It's a shame we won't
have much extra time to spend in Ponyville. We'd be able to do
so many interesting things while we're there. Like last time,
remember how you came across that chicken race?" Bastion said
with a chuckle, grinning a little bit as he remembered the silly
event. "Can't do anything like that this time, though. Just an
in and out job..."

"Your armour, your sword, your food, your hygiene supplies, your
mess kit, your sword, your shield, some spending bits, and your
identification." Blossom listed off studiously, it was something
that she had rehearsed a few times for him, and sometimes he
gets most of them, other times he forgets. Hopefully this will
be one of the times that he remembers everything. "As long as
you remember that, you should be fine." He then brought up the
sight that Blossom had seen when they were last in Ponyville,
the chicken race, and she shook her head, "I am still not sure
if that event was entirely legal, but I will admit, it was both
silly and amusing to watch."
As they neared the barracks, she said, "Yes, it is a shame that
there will be no down time for us, but really, our time for
leave will be approaching soon enough, and we will have all the
time to do the things that we like in Prance. If all goes well
with this assignment, it is literally just around the corner. At
least you won't have to worry about packing an armour and shield
in that time. Speaking of which..." she began as they approached
the barracks. "Don't forget what you need to bring." When they
got inside, Blossom began sorting through the things that she
was going to bring; the food, shortsword, guisarme, hygiene
supplies, ID, mess kit, a jacket in case it was cold on the
train, and the backpack that all of it would be carried in
before starting to take off bits of her armour to set in its own
secured case.

Walking in the barracks with Blossom, Bastion gave a quiet,
exasperated sigh at her second jab at a visit to Prance not
requiring him to pack his armor and shield. She really wasn't
going to let him live that one down, was she? "Yeah, I'm not,
Blossom," Bastion said flatly as he began stuffing some of the
things he needed into a duffle bag. "You said 'sword' twice, by
the way. I'm not that absent-minded, you know. Reminding me a
little bit of my grandma right now..." he muttered, finishing
his packing by tossing a few emergency snacks on top of the pile
and zipping up the duffle bag, followed by him removing his own
armor as well. As he did so, he eventually started grinning a
little bit before he glanced over to Blossom, setting his
greaves in the case with the breastplate he'd already removed.
"Hey, you remember back during boot camp when I talked you into
helping me replace the quartermaster's shampoo with dye?"

Upon mentioning the event where Blossom and Bastion had replaced
the quartermaster's shampoo with dye, Blossom looked around in
an alarmed manner to make sure that nopony else was listening.
The only individuals here were also only just passing through
for their things or sleeping, but thankfully, the quartermaster
was nowhere in sight. When she was sure of this, Blossom
whispered, "Vous serez au calme! You know he is still looking
for who did that, right? I'm sure there will be hell to pay if
he does find out who actually did it. I swear, if he had any
power like the drill sergeants, he would still have us running
laps to this day." She paused for a few seconds before giggling
a bit and adding, "though I have to admit, he was a little more
tolerable while he had such a vibrant, cotton candy pink mane
and tail. What exactly did he do again that warranted that?"

Bastion only grinned at Blossom's request for him to keep it
down, his gaze held on the armor he was packing as she continued
commenting on the quartermaster and his grudge. Then, he gave a
nod to Blossom when she agreed that he looked better with the
pink mane and tail, before setting in the last piece of armor
and clasping its case shut. "He was the one who made us carry
those really fragile parchments around, and threatened us to
make us regret it if anything happened to them, remember?"
Bastion chuckled at that, shaking his head briefly as he hefted
his dufflebag over his shoulder and his armor case onto his
back. "You about ready, Salmon? You sure you're not going to
forget anything?" He said in a teasingly mocking fashion,
turning his grin over to her.

As Bastion reminded her of the crime that needed to be punished,
that being the carrying of the fragile parchments, Blossom had a
lightbulb moment where she suddenly remembered what he was
talking about. Yes, the fragile parchments, where the
quartermaster, as rude as he was, literally picked the two of
them specifically from the mess hall as they were eating to help
him ferry around a bunch of pieces of paper, threatening them
with punishment if anything happened to the papers. Needless to
say, their lunches were cut short, and they were miserable for
the rest of the day. Revenge was sweet and amusing. Packing her
own cases with a returned grin, she balanced her armour case
onto her back, levitating the bag that carried the rest of her
things, including the blinker and key, in front of her.
At Bastion's mocking jab, Blossom furrowed her brow, mocking an
annoyed look as she countered, "Now you are the one who is
reminding me of ma grand-mère. No, I did not forget anything."
Picking up her guisarme and balancing it against one shoulder,
she walked back towards the barracks entrance with Bastion,
heading back to the other end of Canterlot where the train
station was. As they walked, she turned and asked, "I can't help
but think about what this thing we are getting does that needs
such secrecy, and why it wasn't taken from the forest earlier.
Not to mention that the forest is full of dangerous beasts
according to the townsfolk. That one story that mare in the
tailoring and smithing shop told still disturbs me a bit."

At Blossom's retort that he was starting to remind her of her
grandma, Bastion glanced over to her with his tongue playfully
stuck out at her before following her out of the barracks. When
Blossom eventually spoke up and started sharing her thoughts
about the situation, he glanced over to her as he readjusted the
case over his back, humming slightly when she brought up the
topic of the Everfree and the story that had been shared with
them once. "The tailoring and smithing shop... That's the mare
that I asked to teach us how to meditate, right? Yeah, if I'm
remembering it right, that was... quite the story. How did it
go, again?"

"It went something like..." Blossom mused as she tapped her chin
while walking, "... gah, the more I think about it, the more
ridiculous it sounds, but she used to live in the Everfree
Forest with an old stallion who then trained her in martial arts
and swordplay." Yes, it did indeed sound more ridiculous to
Blossom the more she thought about it, and she began to wonder
why she didn't question the whole story earlier. Perhaps it was
just a live and let live stance that she took that day; if she
wanted to believe that she was a master swordspony, then so be
it. There was still a part of her that jerked towards the notion
that the mare was telling the truth; perhaps it was in that
blank thousand-yard stare that she nearly had when she recounted
the next bit.
"She then said that she and her master were ambushed by an angry
pack of timber wolves who proceeded to kill her master and
nearly kill her, and she had to carry herself back out to
Ponyville, racing her own body as it tried to bleed out."
Blossom was quiet for a bit before asking, "Were you serious
about taking those meditation courses by the way? I'm not
exactly sure how that kind of thing could help us."

Bastion nodded along as Blossom recounted the tale of the pony
who used to live and train in the Everfree, the look in his eyes
growing a little distant as the scene played out in his mind.
Sure, it was something that seemed like it had been pulled
straight out of a novel, but it was still fascinating to listen
to and think about. He snapped back to reality when Blossom
mentioned something that wasn't in the story--the fact that he'd
been interested in learning to meditate. "You know I like to try
and learn something new and interesting every day, Salmon.
'Course I was serious. I still am, too. You never know if
something like that'd come in handy one day," Bastion said with
a nod before he fell silent for a little bit longer, still
thinking about that story they'd been told. They arrived at the
train station shortly after, then once they'd received their
tickets, now began waiting for their ride to arrive. "You think
we're gonna fight some timberwolves on our way there? Or maybe
there's gonna be something big an nasty that's chosen the castle
as its nest? What do you think, Blossom?"

Blossom followed Bastion through the train station, picking up
her ticket after flashing her identity badge over to the pass
vendor, going to stand near the edge of the platform where the
train was to be arriving. It shouldn't be too long now; Blossom
thought they would be cutting it a little close, but perhaps
they were just in time. Shouldn't be too long before the train
arrives now, and in the meantime, Bastion still had a few
questions of his own to ask. It would be foolish of her to not
expect any sort of wild imaginings from Bastion, especially
those filled with visions of grandeur and adventure; she could
probably realistically see him growing up on his lust for
action, and it was probably something he will continue taking
with him no matter what. Blossom was, unfortunately, more of a
realist than Bastion, and she said with a little amused laugh,
"I most certainly hope we don't have to fight the likes of any
sort of beast on our way there, and I highly doubt that we would
run into anything noteworthy making its home in an abandoned
castle, but it wouldn't hurt to expect them."
She looked further down the tracks as the bell announcing the
trains imminent arrival, accompanied by the steady chugging
sound of the train engine, "Why, were you anticipating some sort
of encounter like that? I certainly hope you aren't going to go
looking for trouble this time. Try to get on first, Bastille, I
want some good seats."
