Re: One Job Down...

Humming in thought over what would be preventing his partner
from breaking down the front door of the forge to retrieve his
armor, Mana glanced back at said door, half expecting to see
such a thing any second, before pulling the pouch of gems
through the air towards him, it levitating in front of him as he
opened it and began to inspect its contents. "Oh, nothing," the
guard replied to the blacksmith, forcing a small sure smile,
"everything's fine. Probably..." Seeing how Ryo and Iron were
going about introducing themselves and what not, Mana, for the
moment, kept himself occupied with his gems, the unicorn already
working on his plans in his head for exctracting what magic was
left in them to transfer over to the new ones occupying his
polished boots.

"Nice to meet you Ironfire." After their hoofshake and Iron's
confirmation on Ryo's question, without saying another word she
left the two stallions and began to walk around the forge, to
get a better look on things in there. After she noticed the lack
of water buckets near the furnace, she kept her distance to it,
every now and then throwing a glance at it like waiting for it
to do something. Ryo was careful not to touch anything. She
didn't want to disrupt the possible order of things around
Iron's workplace.

Leaving Ryo to look around the forge, Ironfire turned his
attention back towards Mana, "You're either a terrible liar, or
you're messing with me. I'm trying to work out which at the
moment," he looks questioningly at the stallion, "as for
Thunder's armour, do you want to leave it here until he
eventually decides to check in on it, or are you paying for it
all and taking it now?" he asked, turning towards the armour in
question.

"Or I could be both," Mana replied jokingly without looking away
from his gems, his ears picking up a little when he heard Iron
ask if he would be paying for both his boots and his partner's
armor, the unicorn wearing an un-amused expression as he turned
to once again face the door, "not very likely, despite how much
he probably wants that. Which is why he's most likely sitting
outside right now listening in and praying I'll change my mind.
Isn't that right, Thunder?" The unicorn called out, Mana not
seeming to receive any kind of response for a few seconds before
a voice could be heard replying.
"As a complete stranger who is simply passing by," the voice
said, it coughing midway through its sentence to change its tone
and sound to effectively fool absolutely nopony into believing
it was somepony other than the obvious, "I do believe you are
mad, good sir. Whoever you may be. Mad and paranoid. And way too
strict about when its appropriate to nap. I recommend a long
vacation spent on the Siren Isles. Possibly with your new lady
friend. That way everypony wins!"
"Thunder." Mana authoritatively commanded co-operation, a short
glance he couldn't help being casted over towards Ryo as he
tried to ignore how he was actually happy about having the
stains on his face at this point.
"Fiiiiiine..." The pegasus gave in as he dropped the very weak
act and revealed himself to have only been just outside and
hiding next to the door as he entered through it. The guard
trotted enthusiastically towards the others, his arrival being
punctuated with a pouty sit, one that didn't actually last long
though when he noticed his armor, its well repaired and
impressive shiny appearance, while something most other guards
would be proud to be seen wearing, appealing him and actually
earning a shocked gasp as he quickly hopped into a hover that
took him over to his 'ruined' armor.
"What have you done?" He asked Iron, his tone making it sound as
if the stallion had just defaced some piece of high art. "You do
realize you've destroyed something beautiful, right? All those
hours... All those stories... I need to sign this up right away.
Someone toss me a hammer! A spare blade! A pair of tongs!
Anything!"
"So what was the final price for the work?" Mana asked Ironfire,
his partner's distress being ignored, "You said it would be
around three hundred and fifty but mentioned that you weren't
one hundred percent sure at the time."

Ironfire couldn't help but roll his eyes at the obvious antics
of Thunder, and his reaction to the suit of armour, "I did
exactly what I said I would do. I repaired it. Short of melting
it down and reforging it, that's about as close as it'll get to
the day it was made," he explained, "the metal is reshaped, the
weak spots reinforced, and the padding replaced and fitted," he
summed up, "and the only way you'll get near my hammer is if I
were to hit you for defiling my work," he cautioned, unsure
himself if he'd actually follow through with that... then again,
he did dump a barrel of water on him a while ago... he pondered
for a moment before turning back to address Mana, "I could say I
cut corners and saved you a handful of bits, but that would be a
terrible lie and a work ethic like that would tarnish my
reputation. As it stands, 365 bits. That armour was a mess,"

Thunder, without breaking eye contact with the blacksmith,
landed then sidestepped closer to his armor and, with a dead
serious expression, lifted a hoof up and reached over to his
newly repaired cuirass, him dragging the edge of his hoof down
its surface in a scratch. It didn't actually do anything since
he wasn't wearing his boots at the moment, but he felt it got
across how serious he was about "fixing" the repairs made to the
suit, Thunder then turning his attention back to the metal that
was now so frustratingly shiny and "presentable".
"Yeah, I would have been more surprised had you told me the
price was cut down rather than bumped up," Mana said, Thunder
again being ignored as his usual shenanigans tended to be while
the unicorn withdrew a pouch from his saddlebags to pay for his
portion of the price, "I kinda figured you'd have to just scrap
it and make a whole new set when it was dragged in here, so I
can't imagine what a pain it must have been working on it
without having it collapse into itself or some such."
"Would have never done such a thing!" Thunder interjected,
almost stomping a hoof at the ridiculous notion but deciding
instead to begin hovering again as if his elevated position
would somehow get just how right he was across to the others in
the room, "Could have taken the hardest of swings from these
dinky little toy mallets of around here! I know cause it was
battle proven! What do you think I am making it so polished? An
honor guard? I work for a living, sir!"
With a roll in the air Thunder moved across the room over closer
towards Ryo, "What do you think?" He asked for her opinion,
gesturing back at the armor that was making him whine so much,
"Does that look like the kind of armor a pony serving the
princess would really wear, or instead something you would see
on a poster that was trying to get young ponies to sign up?"

Ryo was busy studying some of Ironfire's unfinished projects,
when Thunder's question managed to break her train of thought
and to get her attention. She looked back at the armor Thunder
pointed at and made her way towards it. "Don't be silly Thunder.
That armor looks amazing." Ryo said once she was standing next
to the source for Thunder's sourness. "I think your equipment
needs to be in top shape when you're serving the Princesses."
Ryo inspected the armor, admiring the detail and quality of it.
"This looks amazing Mr. Ironfire. I could never create something
like this with a hammer."

"Glad to hear someone appreciates a good job," Ironfire smiled
at Ryo's words, "and the hammer is mostly for the overall
shaping. I have a variety of tools for the finer work required
with some of those details," he elaborated, "you are, however,
much more likely to see me using a hammer than anything else,
just because it is the tool I need the most. You'd be surprised
at how many problems a hammer can solve, when applied
correctly..."

"Pfft. Whatever," Thunder pouted when Ryo didn't agree with him,
the pegasus slowly drifting back over towards his armor as he
continued with, "and hammers ain't always the best tools if you
ask me, far too brutish and destructive. Sort of like you as a
pony when it comes to ruining such art as my suit once was." The
guard said to Iron, his wings carrying him over said pony before
lazily pulling him through the air and above a vacant space on
the floor. "What you need is a more elegant tool! Like me! I'm
like a chisel that was in the process of carefully and lovingly
sculpting out the smallest and most impressive of details into
my metal casing before you two had to go and ruin it."
Punctuated with a landing and loud clop of his hooves, Thunder
stood as if his point had been made which, as Mana soon pointed
out, it hadn't been.
"First off, Thunder, that doesn't make much sense when you keep
in mind that the 'care' and 'love' that went into those dings
and dents often were just a result of you rushing to get
yourself into trouble. And secondly, you do realize that a
chisel is often accompanied by a hammer, right?"
"Must you always be so focused on the details, Mana?"

"B-but of course." Of course other tools are used in the
process. That was a foolish thing to say, such an amateurish
comment from her. A slight blush colored her face as she simply
nodded to rest of Iron's words. Ryo directed her eyes back to
Thunder who was ranting about his "ruined" armor once more,
clearly displeased from not getting any support for his claims.
She stayed quiet, but she couldn't help but to giggle when Mana
pointed out the affiliation of chisel and hammer to Thunder.
Having heard bits and pieces from their earlier conversation,
Ryo decided to try and offer Thunder some comfort over his
"ruined" equipment. "Well... You could consider it as an empty
canvas, ready to 'record and document' new stories and
memories... That's... Just a thought... Though..."
