Foxtrot scratches the back of his head as Mesa inquires about
his adventures as a Royal Guard. "There are some that I can
probably tell I suppose." When he got her name though, he
couldn't help but swish his tail slightly; a nice name too. He
leans back when edge begins to ask about the area. When she
finishes he chuckles for a short moment, then stops, "I'm sorry,
I just uh... got off the last train that pulled in. I'm a bit of
a newcomer myself." His gaze goes to the floor for a moment, "I
could help you find one for the night if you'd like. I'm not
really doing anything important right now."

Mesa looked surprised at Foxtrot's chuckle, before bursting into
laughter as he continued. "Seriously? Well then..." At his
offer, Mesa hesitated. I can probably find an inn on my own, she
thought. And I don't want to take him away from his playing...
But ponies were always saying how she needed to make some real
friends. So Mesa quickly smiled and nodded. "If you're free, why
not? It's always more fun to be lost with another pony than by
yourself. Shall we? Oh, and..." She trailed off as she dug
through her bags again and pulled out the bits Foxtrot had
refused. "And here, I insist. Your music really is beautiful."

As the bits once again was offered to him, Foxtrot was about to
open his mouth to object, but closed it as he kindly took them
by hoof, "Thank you. For the bits and the compliment." Getting
up he begins gathering his things and lightly stretching, "So
you're here on vacation huh? Where are you from?"

Mesa look pleased as Foxtrot accepted her bits. "No problem.
Well, I travel a lot, so I don't really have a permanent home.
But I hiked in from Rambling Rock Ridge this morning- do you
know it? East of the Everfree. But anyway, I hadn't been in a
real town or bed for... three months or so? Yeah, three months."
She paused, smiling at the thought of a bed. With a mattress and
everything! Mesa was tough mare, but even she got tired of
sleeping on wispy clouds and tree branches after awhile.
She gave her head a small shake to get her thoughts back on
track, then glanced at Foxtrot. "What about you? Where are you
from? And visiting for work or pleasure?"

"Rambling Rock Ridge huh?" Foxtrot says looking rather
impressed, "That's a good distance you covered, especially since
you left this morning. As for me, I just got off the train from
Canterlot." He raises his hoof to his chin as he considers what
the actual reason for his move here was. "I guess this move was
for both work and pleasure. Canterlot is nice, but I could never
tell what was higher, the castle's towers, or the noses of the
upper class unicorns." He sighs, "They just go on and on about
the most trivial things. Here it seems more laid back, everypony
isn't bragging or boasting or complaining about something
stupid. I should also look for a second job too; the one I'm in
now pays good but its per assignment and I don't get those much
so I need to find something in between I guess." He looks over
to Mesa as he begins trotting, "So what's your prfession?"

"I shouldn't have done it," Mesa admitted, about traveling such
a distance in such a short time. "I probably pushed myself too
hard- I have a hunch that I'll start feeling it tomorrow," she
said with a sigh. At Foxtrot's response of where he came from,
Mesa looked curious. "Canterlot?" She'd never been. She just had
never had the time, and the thought of such a large city, with
so many buildings and ponies... It made Mesa a little nervous.
She laughed aloud at Foxtrot's comparison between towers and the
nobles' noses. "I've heard that the nobles there are a bit
high-and-mighty, but I never thought it was that bad," she said,
before shrugging at Foxtrot's observation of ponies in Ponyville
being more laid back. The ponies Mesa generally dealt with could
be fairly rough. Compared to that, Ponyville seemed pretty
highbrow to her. She gave at an internal sigh as Foxtrot was
once again vague in talking about what he did. "Second job, huh?
What're you thinking of doing?"
At Foxtrot's question, Mesa smiled again before trotting up
beside him. She loved what she did, and sometimes had to
mentally remind herself to not go on about it too much. "I'm a
wilderness guide- I escort ponies through some of the more
dangerous wild places in Equestria. Make sure they don't get
eaten or mauled or lost. Or all three." She paused, before
adding, "It can be stressful, but I love seeing so many places.
Are you much of a traveler?"

"Oh I love traveling. New places, new sights, new foods..."
Foxtrot says as he spots a nearby cart filed with fresh baked
goods. "That reminds me I have to try some of the local
delicacies here. I've heard this town has some great apple
recipes..." The unicorn pauses for a moment then grins, "And a
farm which may or may not be looking for extra workers." He
shakes his head to focus back on the conversation, "Field guide
does souns more exciting though. I'm sure you've come across
some great sights in your journeys as well?"

"That's a good idea," she contributed, at Foxtrot's idea for a
job. "Then maybe you can get some of said delicacies for free,
right?" She nodded at the stallion's question. "I feel lucky to
have seen so much of Equestria. There's so much beauty and
wildness out there... But so many ponies don't dare venture far
enough out to see it. But seeing a sunrise over the southern
desert, or the enormous hydras nesting in Hayseed Swamps, or a
summer thunderstorm in the Badlands... Seeing things like that,
it makes all the bad things in life worth it."
She walked in silence for a moment, before suddenly groaning and
bringing one hoof up to her face. "Sweet Luna, I sound like such
a geek... How about you tell me more about you, before I go all
philosophical again?" She lowered her hoof, the faintest of
blushes still visible on her cheeks as she glanced at Foxtrot.
"I told you what I do for a living, want to tell me more about
what you do? You've been being rather vague." Her blue eyes were
curious, but also slightly nervous, as if she expected Foxtrot
to get annoyed at her for prying. After all, Mesa knew better
than anyone that everypony had their secrets.

Foxtrot nods when Mesa points out the possible benefits of
working at the farm, "Good point, I didn't think of that."
Listening quietly to the pegasus describe the natural wonders
that she's seen, Foxtrot simply looks to the sky, trying his
best to picture the scenery. He looks over to Mesa as she
facehoofs, "What? You don't sound at all like a geek. Trust me
philosophy is definitely a topic I don't mind dabbling in. As
for myself..." Foxtrot pauses for a moment, then shrugs, "Well,
I guess I can tell you my other occupation, it's technically
public information." The unicorn takes a deep breath, sifting
through the description we was about to give to make sure he
doesn't say anything that actually needs to remain secret. "I'm
a field agent for the Military Assistance Command Special
Operations Group, or just MACSOG... Or "The 26" which is the
shortest name. Basically I'm assigned to allied governments to
help their military with high risk operations, whether it be
covert, frontline, or just ponytarian (humanitarian) work. I
joined them the same time as I joined the guard but I only
served with them a few months at a time. Technically I'm still a
rookie, the only field experience I've had is a campaign in
Saddle Arabia to help end a civil war over there." Foxtrot looks
forward, making sure he doesn't bump into anything by accident.
"I've been assigned here to Equestria but work is scarce because
the Empire has the Royal Guard to handle any issues."

Mesa was silent as Foxtrot spoke, staring ahead but listening
intently. When he finished, she didn't say anything for a
moment. When she did, her voice was incredulous. "You said being
a guide was exciting. And you're... a spy? That is..." She just
shook her head. "Can I just say how cool that is? And Saddle
Arabia?! I thought I was well-traveled, and I've never been out
of Equestria. To be completely honest, I didn't even know that
the government had something like that. No wonder you were vague
when I first asked. It's like something out of a Daring Do
book!" She calmed down a little, finally looking over at
Foxtrot. "Okay, I'm done freaking out now. But your job is way
cooler than mine. I would ask you tons of questions about it,
but there's probably some rule against it." Her voice took a
teasing tone as she added, "'Agent Foxtrot'. I like it."
