Gladius

Name: Gladius
Gender: Male
Age: Early-twenties
Race: Pegasus
Appearance: Gladius is an orange stallion with a cleanly trimmed
red mane and tail and green eyes. His job allows for plenty of
exercise, keeping him in shape as he wears the trademark armor
of the royal guard customized with an image on his helmet of a
dark orange and cracked circle, the same marking also being on
the scabbards of both of his blades. His cutie mark is a single
downward pointing golden longsword with a blue handle.
Strengths: An expert at bladed combat, Gladius prefers the use
of one sword at a time, him carrying both a long and short sword
for use in most situations as well as standard pegasus guard
wing blades "just in case". He is very difficult to frighten or
intimidate as most things fail to match an experience from his
past.
Weaknesses: Gladius prefers to stay grounded and as such is not
the strongest flyer. Deals with chronic insomnia and a bad habit
of zoning out (sometimes even in the middle of a conversation)
and becoming unresponsive for short periods of time.
Likes: Being given an assignment. Working with others. Quietly
cleaning his equipment. Is a big fan of pie and trying new
things.
Dislikes: Intolerance. Baseless gossipy rumors. Being excluded
from things for no good reason. Being forced into taking time
off of his job. Sauerkraut.
Hates: Being called crazy.
Bio: Gladius grew up with a relatively normal but cherished
childhood. His parents loved and raised him and his only brother
according to a strong moral code of ethics and ideals that
taught them both about honor, kindness, tolerance and self
sacrifice, something both young ponies took to heart and kept
close as they grew up into adulthood. While one of them
eventually chose to embrace the ideas of kindness and self
sacrifice, him dedicating most of his time to charity work,
Gladius went more for the honor side to things, ideas of
defending those who couldn't defend themselves prompting him to
put his talents to use by joining the royal guard after a few
years of random off and on jobs.
His job went smoothly with the stallion never really having all
that strong ambitions of advancing himself into any serious
position of command as just wearing the armor was often enough
to keep him happy, but his career took a turn he couldn't have
predicted when he sent out with a small team of guards to
investigate strange happenings in a smaller town located in the
southern reaches of Equestria. The events that transpired were,
aside from being enough to scar everypony involved both
physically and psychologically, quickly put under wraps once
they were resolved, the guards involved, including Gladius,
sworn to secrecy until things could be better understood.
However, as a kind of way to remain connected with each other
and remember that they weren't alone in what they saw, those
involved stamped their equipment with an image of a cracked and
dark orange circle, the meaning behind it being lost on anypony
outside of their own small circle.
Things changed after the event that was eventually just given
the name of "Lokri" was settled, for everypony involved. Some
put in requests for new posts further away from civilization,
others took simpler and more predictable jobs within the guard,
but Gladius attempted to accept and move on. It changed him,
yes, but he didn't want that to affect the rest of his career or
life, the still young guard attempting to return to his old work
without letting this drag him down even if it was causing him to
have a much much harder time trying to sleep at night.
However, while he was ready and willing, those higher up
believed him, as well as the rest of that team, to be considered
unstable or difficult to trust after what happened with psych
evaluations too often than not coming back with things they
didn't want to see, this leading to Gladius frustratingly being
kept in a kind of limbo of forced vacations and menial tasks to
prevent him from being trusted with anything important. Most
other guards have, while not knowing any of the real details,
have formulated various rumors about what Lokri was, as well as
what it may have done to Gladius and the others, this leading to
him being excluded from most things and seen as potentially
crazy at times, the fact that he'd begun to randomly stare off
at nothing at times ever since he'd come back not really helping
him to stop these rumors from spreading.
Even now, with all these new restrictions keeping him stuck
carrying out small unimportant tasks and with all the untrue
stories being passed around to further frustrate him, Gladius
tries to make the most of it. Still believing that what he's
doing is something that would make hos parents proud, he pushes
onward, gladly accepting ny opportunity to prove that he's not
only still capable of getting a job done, but also. Isn't.
Crazy.
