Mana once again tried to look up at Ryo but still found it to be
too difficult, his embarrassment over what he did still weighing
heavy on him, though his worry did alleviate some when he heard
what she said. She... hadn't yelled at him or run out the door,
so... he guessed that was a good sign, right? At least one that
showed she didn't suddenly find him creepy and weird and wanted
to vacate the premises to get as far away from him as
possible... Blinking, a bit in surprise, Mana managed to send a
flick of his eyes at the mare, head still low as he responded.
"... We did... Sorry... Um..." Not sure how to continue, the
guard sat back down on his couch, Mana then trying to figure out
what more to say as he awkwardly sat in confusion of what to do.
Did he go back to just talking about the journal, or...? "...
You're not... upset... right?" He asked, tone still worried as
he watched his hooves and un-pinned his ears to better listen
       for an answer.

"No..." Ryo said, directing her eyes on the journal. Her face
was still bright red as she opened the book in her hooves and
simply watched the page it happened to open to, poorly
pretending that she was reading it. She felt like she was about
to faint, but fought the feeling and feebly said. "Can we... Not
talk about it... Please? I... I'm not upset... I just... I-
eh... I..." She remembered the pictures of Mana's family she saw
earlier and how Mana offered to tell her about them. Desperately
wanting to change the subject, Ryo looked at Mana and asked.
"C-could you... Could you tell me about your family now... We
found the... Journal... So... Maybe we... Could talk about...
       Your family... Now?"

"Uh, r-right," Mana stuttered, standing back up and taking a
step around Ryo without looking at her face, the guard
remembering his earlier promise and feeling more than happy to
have the subject change to something else, "s-sure. Yes. Okay.
Um..." Well... talking about his family would go easier with a
picture to show, right? Guess he should take a minute to go find
one then. "Right... Uh, I'm going to go find a... thing... It'll
only take me a minute and... Uh..." 'Excuse me for a moment
while I fetch a picture real quick' was all he actually had to
say, but because of his nerves and embarrassment he couldn't
even do that right. Eventually, after a couple seconds of weird
silence where he wasn't sure what to say, Mana continued with a
simple, "be right back!" before doing an about face and heading
out of the room, him walking until he was away from the door and
then taking a deep breath to try and calm down as he used the
new privacy to quietly berate himself on his stupidity.
Alone now, Mana sighed and leaned against his wall, the unicorn
casting a glance back towards his library and thinking about the
mare within. He'd already apologized... but he felt like he
still screwed everything up... A kiss to look at his journal...
Why did he have to say that out loud? Some random silly thought
had managed to find a way to go from his brain to his mouth and
now he'd probably made her feel so uncomfortable because of
it... A kiss just to look at his journal... Mana's mind kept
going back to that idea, thinking about it over and over. It
took him a few seconds before he realized he'd at some point
started to smile again, the guard then shaking it off and trying
to push the thought from his mind, it having already gotten him
       into enough trouble.
Sighing again, the stallion attempted to pull himself back
together as he trotted a short ways further away from his
library to find one of the simple and plain cabinets that dotted
his home, him opening it up to find a photo album with a
semi-thick layer of dust on its cover. Pulling it out with his
magic, Mana frowned a little before blowing away the dust, it
being thick enough to fill the air to the point of forcing a
cough out of the guard, him using his magic to also open a
window with the hopes of airing out the dust as he turned around
to head back to the library. The family portraits in the hall
were great and all, but these smaller pictures were less formal
and nicer in Mana's opinion. In fact he'd been meaning to move
this album back into his library for safe keeping for quite some
time, the dust being rather evident of this, but he'd kept
getting side tracked by either his work or personal studies. Now
seemed a good enough time to both take care of that and find a
pleasant picture to show off, so may as well fetch it, right?
Nearing the library again, Mana only having been gone a few
minutes, the stallion paused as he reached the door, him needing
another chance to take a breath and calm his nerves as he
prepared to face Ryo again, Mana hoping shed have somehow
completely forgotten about his slip up while he was gone though
he knew the world didn't work that way. Once he felt ready he
put on a smile, as best a one as he could manage, then trotted
back into the library, the photo album opening and having one of
the first photographs kept within pulled out and held in his
magic as the rest of the album headed for the same table Ryo's
       gifted ruby occupied.
"Found it," Mana said, approaching the mare and floating the
photo over, it showing a gathering of two stallions, a mare and
two colts standing together in front of what looked like a high
view of Canterlot below them and an airship behind them. One of
the colts had the same coat and mane colors as Mana, those
making it easy to guess as to who it was, while one of the
stallions and the mare he was wrapping one of his front legs
around both smiled behind him. The other stallion sat directly
behind the second colt both of his front hooves on the younger
ponies shoulders as they smiled for the camera. "thought I'd get
a nicer picture to show you instead of those portraits. This is
me, my parents, my uncle and my cousin watching some of the
airships leaving the city when I was a kid."

Ryo kept her eyes on the journal, giving nods to Mana when he
spoke. Once Mana had left the library, Ryo closed the journal,
lift her head up and took a deep breath. She looked around the
room, trying to think of something to say once Mana would
return, she just hoped that she had not said anything stupid...
Somepony had actually asked her to... Kiss them. The more she
thought about it, the more she blushed, but at the same time a
small smile made it's way to her face. Ryo opened Mana's journal
again, hoping that it would help her to distance her mind from
the recent event and began to read it's first entry. Ryo kept
reading, only getting momentarily distracted by a sound of
       window being opened.
Ryo looked at the door when Mana returned with a picture. Her
quick read had managed to help her to calm down a little and she
had a gentle smile on her still slightly blushed face. Upon
seeing the picture, Ryo immediately recognized Mana from it. She
momentarily thought that maybe Mana had two different fathers
too, but that thought was dismissed when Mana told her that the
other stallion was his uncle. "I've been there once, when my mom
left to some royal guard field mission. I have wanted to ride in
one myself but i never got a chance to do so." Her smile grew a
bit after seeing smiles of the happy looking ponies in the
picture. "You have your father's eyes..." Ryo said looking at
Mana for a moment before looking at the picture again.

Happy to see that things were closer to being back to the way
they were before his slip up, Mana found his smile to be easy to
keep up as he listened to Ryo's comments and mention of she'd
wanted to ride an airship. "I've been in a fair number of them
because of my job," he said, recalling how his most recent trip
wasn't all that long ago, "and my cousin and I used to get
part-time jobs at the docks when we were growing up. In fact,
that's what he does now, loads and unloads stuff all day for the
       cargo ships coming and going."
Her glance and comment on his eyes caused him to blush under the
dye staining his face, nearly causing him to avert his own gaze
simply out of still feeling a bit embarrassed from his earlier
thoughts and ideas, Mana trying to shake it off as he went on
with his talk of his family. "H-his name is Five Star," he went
on to explain, nodding back to the picture and referring to his
father, "he's a chef here in Canterlot for one of the more
prestigious resteraunts in the city. Have you ever heard of or
been to Mini's? That's the one he's cooked for for quite a long
time now. My mother," he continued, glancing at the mare in the
photo, "is a chandler with her own candle shop near the western
edge of the city. Beautiful view from the front of the shop
overlooking the countryside. Her names Luminary, and her shop is
called Luminosity. Always smells so good in there...
"Now, my uncle... Well..." He began though seemed to hesitate a
little, his expression when looking down at the picture of the
unicorn stallion in question showing that he didn't seem to know
for sure what he should say about him. "He's... An entertainer I
suppose. Calls himself a street magician at least, though he
only ever wants to play with sleight-of-hoof tricks instead of
fantastical displays of clever magical manipulation and
illusion. He'd be quick to urge you to pick a card, any card,
that kind of thing. Has had a few small shows but prefers to be
closer to and more involved with the ones watching his stuff."

Awww... He's been on a airship many times and she had not even
been in airship once, that's not fair. But it can't be helped.
He is a royal guard and Ryo is, or was only a blacksmith's
assistant after all. Can it be helped... Maybe... Maybe she
could just ask if Mana could to take her on a airship someday...
No... She can't ask something like that, not yet at least...
"Maybe you could take me there sometime, if not to fly in one at
least to get to be aboard one... Maybe?" Great... Ryo hoped that
her question wasn't rude... She managed to maintain her smile,
but blushed slightly when she realized that it could be counted
as an invite to a date.
Mini's? Maybe, but she couldn't remember "I might have been
there, though i can't really remember. We used to visit in a
restaurant every weekend if my mom was home. Dad always said
that the food she made after a longer time spend on duty tasted
like field rations, so he liked to take us on various fine
restaurants around Canterlot." When Mana told her about his
mother's profession as a chandler, Ryo got a funny and slightly
uncomfortable feeling, recalling their little scene about
candles at Donut Joe's cafe. "I haven't heard of that store..."
Ryo thought that her short reply about Mana's mother was
disrespectful and quickly added. "... But she has a beautiful
       name."
Ryo threw a worried look at Mana when he began to tell her about
his uncle, but her worry was replaced with relief when she heard
that he was a street magician instead of some, criminal as she
had first thought from Mana's at first stumbling introduction.
"I kinda like street magicians and sleight-of-hoof tricks.
They're different from the normal magic we unicorns can use. I
haven't seen one for some time though..."

       ---------------------------------------------------------
"Sure," Mana replied with a nod, how forward the question was
not seeming to phase him much, though the sight of Ryo blushing
did cause him to think a little too heavily on the request and
feel his own cheeks heat up a little. It was so easy for her to
do that to him... "Uh, heh, if you just want to board one then I
don't think that would be much of a problem. I know a few
captains that fly those ships from all my time I spend there, so
I could easily arrange just having you board to check a ship
out. I'll tell you, some of those captains get pretty into the
idea of showing off they're ships. They might even give you a
tour themselves if its a slow day." The unicorn guard chuckled a
bit, thinking of the more eccentric captains he'd met. "Actually
riding the ship would be a different story, mostly because its a
lot of work to dock and un-dock, so wed need to either pay for a
ship or hitch a ride with a captain I know who just happens to
be going where you need to be. Though... maybe..." Mana trailed
off a bit, mind starting to work on possible ideas for maybe
setting up something where a smaller ship could tour Canterlot
or fly them both to Ponyville. Wasn't too far of a trip and they
could just take the train back if they needed to settle for a
"stop along the way" deal. He wondered if Ryo would enjoy
that... then remembered that she would already be in Ponyville,
so he'd need to think about this some more first...
"I know the feeling when it comes to the rations. Sometimes you
just get so used to the way they are that they're taste follows
you home. Oh! But if you've never been to Mini's then we should
go there some time," he went on as Ryo expressed how she was
unsure if shed ever been to the restaurant that was his father's
place of work before. "You've got to try some of the pasta they
have there. And it may be a small thing to mention, but they
have the best bread in the city. I'm serious." Whether he was
dead serious or being a little playful was unsure, probably as
was intended by him in order to encourage the mare to find out
the truth for herself, but his smile faltered slightly as he
felt another blush come on. So... he just kind of invited her
out to dinner sometime... Heh... The rather blunt negative
towards if she knew of his mother's shop caught Mana a bit off
guard, him blinking wondering if he'd somehow said something
wrong but tried to shrug it off when she quickly added the
       compliment.
"Um..." Mana hesitated a bit before moving on, deciding not to
elaborate on who his mother was until he figured out why Ryo had
reacted the way she did. "... Well, he would agree with that as,
like my Uncle Flourish always says, real magic is boring magic.
He probably wouldn't mind showing off if you had the patience to
put up with him though, so if ever you bump into him or he
decides to set up a show he would probably love to test how much
you can put up with." The way he said this made it clear it
wasn't out of any real disliking of his uncle, but instead more
just as an affectionate sort of warning that the stallion could
get carried away with his antics and showmanship. Was still fun
trying to figure out just how he did some of his tricks though,
Mana having to admit that even to this day there were a few he
       hadn't managed to break down.
"So... anyway," the unicorn continued, glancing down at the
picture then back to the mare with a small smile, "about those
airships... If you don't mind me asking... If you could take
them to one place anywhere in the world, where would you go and
       why?"

"Even getting aboard one would be so awesome! Eh-... I mean... I
would... Really appreciate that... Hehe..." Ryo chuckled. Ryo
tilted her head when Mana went silent in the middle of his
sentence and was seemingly deep in thought. After a while Ryo
spoke up "I wouldn't mind if it was just a ride to some other
city and back, or even just around Canterlot. It would still be
       so awe-... Heh... Nice."
"Sure." Ryo answered. She was seemingly unaware of the fact that
Mana had just invited her to a dinner. There was something else
that caught her attention. Ryo wasn't sure what it was, but she
felt like she had forgotten something very important. "It would
be great. Especially if the food really is as great as you say
it is." Ryo said. She still tried to remember what she had
       forgotten.
"Maybe. Watching a good street magician perform is almost like
being in a theater. All the mystery and skill behind their
tricks is just marvelous. My dad tried to teach me to do the
coin-behind-ear trick after seeing it done by a street magician,
but i kinda... always do something wrong..." Small blush covered
her face as she continued. "... I don't know why... But the coin
always appear behind my own ear, not the pony's who i try to
show the trick to." Her face brightened up a little, as she
presented an idea to Mana. "Maybe... Once i can, i could return
here for a visit and... And we could do all those things. Go see
airships... Go to eat at your father's restaurant and maybe we
could even see your uncle's performance..." As Ryo listed the
things they could do, she slowly realized that it would take a
lot of preparing for Mana to first arrange an airship tour, then
a table at his father's restaurant, which he mentioned was one
of the finer places in Canterlot to dine in. And then to get his
uncle to arrange a performance for them... She shrugged a bit
nervously and said. "...That's... Just a... Suggestion...
       Though..."
Mana's last question was a bit weird. Where would she go with a
airship, if she could take it to anywhere in the world.
"Hmmm..." She pondered, tapping her muzzle with a hoof. "I don't
really know... To be honest... Definitely somewhere where i
haven't been before... Maybe... *GASP*" Ryo suddenly let out an
audible gasp and she then looked at Mana. "I remembered." She
said, though she hadn't said anything about having forgotten
something to Mana. "I haven't paid you for those doughnuts and
that hot chocolate." She had a slightly terrified look on her
face as she quickly added. "How much did they cost?"

Mana smiled. A tour around the Canterlot or just a round trip
between this city and another? He could manage that... Shouldn't
be too bad to arrange it as long as Ryo wasn't hoping to relax
on a luxury cruise liner. Just hitching a ride with a cargo
barge wouldn't be much of a problem for example, though Mana
personally was hoping he could get a hold of one of the captains
of a nicer ship to improve the experience for the mare.
Ryo's accepting of his invitation to dinner brought a broad and
happy grin to Mana's dye stained face. Yes! His accidental
request for a date hadn't embarrassed him! Though, how casually
she agreed to the idea did cause him to pause a bit. He had
expected to see her blush the same way she had so many times
before, so... was she just used to it now? or... Hmm... Either
way, Mana was happy with the idea of checking with his father
about reserving a table, though he'd probably have to get on
that before long if he hoped to get one anytime soon... Even
then he wasn't getting his hopes up...
The idea of somehow managing to have a coin appear behind your
own ear caused Mana to chuckle a bit, the guard becoming curious
as to how she managed such a thing and wanting to see it for
himself. "You mean this trick?" He asked, reaching a hoof behind
Ryo's ear, the unicorn pulling it back to reveal a single bit.
"Having a magician for an uncle means I've picked up a few
things... Personally I'd like to see your version though. Sound
more pork it would actually be trickier to have a coin appear
behind your own ear. Was it hiding in your mane, or...? Nah,
never mind. Good magicians never reveal their secrets, right?"
His smiled died down a little as Ryo reminded him of how she was
leaving the city, it causing Mana to realize that getting things
going at the resteraunts was less of a priority than he'd
convinced himself it was. "Or maybe all three at the same time?"
The guard joked, trying to keep his cheer up, "a dinner on an
airship while my uncle makes our silverware disappear right
before our eyes. Seriously, though... I'd like that." He added,
       encouraging the idea.
The sudden gasp that interrupted the mare's answering of his
question made Mana frown in concern, him being both confused and
worried over something possibly being wrong though it didn't
last long as his concern dissipated when she explained that she
remembered something, it leaving him with only confusion as he
listened then tilted his head slightly at her expression.
"But... I wanted to buy those for you." He said, hoping it would
allow her to relax. "It was my treat. Or at least, I thought it
was... Was it? I was hoping it would be..."

Ryo twitched her ear when Mana took a bit from behind it. She
looked amazed as Mana asked if he could see her "version" of the
trick. "But i'm not a magician at all, And i don't know the
secret either." Ryo floated the same bit Mana had used for his
trick to her and placed it on her hoof. "First... I show it to
everypony... Then..." Ryo covered the bit with her other hoof
and after few second she lifted her hoof, revealing that the bit
was gone. "Then i ask for a volunteer... And it should be behind
his or hers ear... But..." Ryo reached her hoof behind Mana's
ear, but she couldn't find a bit from there. Instead a bit
rolled out from behind her own ear and rolled around the floor,
hitting a leg of Mana's table. "I have no idea why that
happens..." She said, looking a bit confused while gazing at the
stopped bit next to the table leg.
"All three at the same time in the same place... Why not. If
it's possible to get your father's food there, and to get your
uncle there aboard an airship that allows food on board... Do
they allow food on board... I have no idea" Ryo said, thinking
that if arranging each three separately was difficult. Getting
all three of them to the same place at the same time seemed
impossible. But Mana sounded like it would be possible... So
       maybe it was...
Wait what? Mana wanted to buy that food for her... That's...
Really kind, but she wasn't sure if it was right. "A-are you
sure... I have bits to pay for those... And the bits are real
ones... But if you... Really want to pay for those... That's
really kind of you... Thanks." Ryo bowed her head to express her
       gratitude.
