Feeling it would be inappropriate to cheer at what would
probably be considered bad news for the mare by anypony else,
Mana just smiled when he learned he had another 3 or so hours to
spend with Ryo. "If you would love to hear about my research
then I would love to show it to you." He said, standing up and
using his magic to clear off their table of their empty box and
cups left over from their food so as to toss it into a nearby
trash can. Hmm... from where they were to his place... then back
to the station... they should have plenty of time to swing by
where he lived, pick up his journal, discuss it some then get
her back in time to catch her train. As for if he had to get
back to work, Mana had actually been on his way to The Alembic
to speak with its owner over some kind of dye remover for the
stains that blemish his previously immaculate armor. Also his
face, but at this point he was finding his artificially red face
to be coming in handy a bit. So, that meant that he and Thunder
hadn't even really been officially on du-
Oh dear sweet Celestia Mana had left Thunder alone at the train
station to search for cake... Glancing out the window and off in
the direction of the station with a look of worry, Mana wondered
if the train Ryo was hoping to ride would still be arriving on
time. Shrugging it off, or at least trying to, Mana looked back
and shone his smile back at Ryo. "Besides, would be really
boring for you if you just went back to the station and waited
for s few hours, right?" Turning a bit, Mana invited her to walk
with him again so as to head back outside.

"Great." Ryo stood up after Mana. She floated her saddlebags
back to her back and left the cafe with him, eager to learn
about Mana's project. "I've never been a fan of waiting... I
feel like that's a waste of time to sit around waiting, while
you could do something productive... Or fun."

In full agreement with the mare, Mana smiled as he and Ryo
headed back into the city. It wasn't that far of a trot to find
his place, especially since Mana was suffering through the curse
of having the time feel like it was flying by since he was both
limited by it and was enjoying every second, and all along the
way Mana tried to keep things pleasant with casual conversation
about various topics. Eventually reaching a small but generally
upper-middle class neighborhood Mana led the way to one of the
more modest homes lining the street, him slowing his pace and
turning back to Ryo to speak as they came up on it.
"Well, here we are." He said with a nod at the single story
house, him then feeling a bit hesitant and worried now that
they'd actually arrived, "um... I... Uh... Told you it wasn't
far..." He said, kind of to just buy time as he found himself in
a situation he didn't know how to handle. So... was he supposed
to invite her inside? Or would that be too soon? But, what would
be too soon? It's just for his journal. But she probably
wouldn't want or like being asked to enter his home after only
just meeting him... Mana wasn't sure what he should do here...
Briefly he wondered what Thunder would do in this situation, and
immediately dismissed it as he figured whatever it was he
wouldn't be able to pull it off himself... "Um... Would you like
to come in, or should I just bring the journal out? N-not that I
       wouldn't want you in my house. O-or t-that I'm t-trying to make
you come I-inside...". Uh oh... He had no doughnuts or bear
claws to shut himself up with this time... "I'm sorry, I'm being
dumb... Would you like to come inside and relax while I find my
       journal?"

"Wow... My house is a garden shed compared to yours..." Ryo
said, Inspecting Mana's house and the other houses around it.
"Do you have nice neighbors? Our neighborhood was pretty...
       Dull..."
"Any distance traveled can feel short if you got somepony to
talk with... Company can make the time fly." She raised an
eyebrow when Mana started to get nervous again. Ryo lifted her
hoof up and was about to step inside when Mana asked if she
wanted to come in, but placed it back on the ground when Mana
offered to bring his journal outside. "Ehhh...?" Ryo began to
get nervous herself, thinking that maybe there was a new set of
rules when visiting somepony after a date, but she quickly
calmed down and her nervousness vanished once Mana Collected his
thoughts and 'properly' invited her in. "No need to
apologize..." Ryo said, letting out a small laugh.
"If it's okay... I still have time to sit down for a moment."
Ryo said, walking to the door. She was unsure if she should keep
the door open for Mana, since it's his house he should enter
first. Or should Mana keep the door open for her, since it's his
house maybe he should be the one opening the door... Ryo
remained still in awkward silence, staring at the door and
trying to make up her mind on how she should act.

"Heh, yeah, I guess not. Sorry for... being... sorry." He said a
bit lamely though now he was feeling a little more silly, in a
good way, instead of embarrassed. Seeing Ryo approach then start
to stare at the door confused him for a moment. Was she...
Trying to see through it? He didn't understand... Maybe she's
just trying to decide if she really did want to go inside? Or
maybe... He's just being dumb and not unlocking his door for
them to enter. "Oh, let me get that," he said with a short
sheepish laugh, horn lighting up as hos magic clicked away at
the lock on his door, it taking him only a second to pop it open
then step forward and push the door open as he stepped inside,
held the door open for his guest and invited her to follow,
"please, make yourself comfortable," he urged, trying to imagine
this as a more casual visit instead of a sudden second date, as
he knew how to handle having a pony stopping by, even if it
doesn't happen too often, "feel free to relax wherever you'd
like. There should be a few cushions here and there for sitting.
Sorry I don't have many proper chairs or anything, I tend to
stay on my hooves when I'm at home to keep working on my
       projects."
Hard wood floors, not too much furniture, a few pictures of
family and memories from his time at the guard academy, and the
previously mentioned cushion or two set aside by the occasional
small table or cabinet, most would consider Mana's home to be
very spartan when they first saw it, it being thought of as bare
by those who liked having plenty of things to decorate their
homes with. Mana however just never felt he needed anything more
than he had, the idea of buying something he'd never use just
seeming pointless to him as he'd focused on making sure he
didn't waste resources on things he wouldn't need. "Though, If
you don't want to just wait around while I find my journal you
can follow me to my library? It's buried somewhere in there so
it might take me a few minutes. Could skim a book while you
       wait?"
Having submitted his offer, Mana left the decision up to Ryo,
him turning and trotting further into his home to find the
library mentioned, it being a much more beautiful room compared
to the rest of the home. Finely crafted and even a bit ornate
bookshelves with their shelves full of books of all shapes,
sizes and subjects. Larger tables made of more more valuable and
sturdy materials supporting small stacks of books of their own,
these ones being newer purchases and still waiting for a place
on the shelves as a small magical toy of sorts rested next to
them. The toy was a silver disk that floated a small collection
of multi-colored gemstones in the air above it, idly shifting
and moving them into different shapes and patterns as a simple
       amusing bobble.
An actual couch was here, it being next to a large and
comfortable chair over by a set of windows, it was clear a lot
of love and care went into this room. It was the most important
one to Mana, it serving not only as a well of knowledge for him
but also a place where he carried out his experiments, how
protective magic always serving well enough to prevent any
damages to his collection and furniture should anything go
unexpectedly awry. It was easy to guess that Mana spent most if
not all of his time spent home in this room, and while he didn't
get many visitors, he did so enjoy sharing it whenever he had
       the chance.

Ryo moved aside so that Mana could open the door. She made a
mental note that the house owner opens the door if he or she
gets a visitor after a date, though she added a note to that
note that the information wasn't one hundred percent accurate.
She felt a little silly and happy that Mana actually opened the
door before she would have tried. It might have looked strange
is she just began to fiddle with the lock after noticing that it
was locked, all while the owner of the said house was standing
       next to her.
Make herself comfortable? She didn't see any spare gemstones
around, but she assumed it was just a common phrase said to
visitors. Come to think of it, Ryo couldn't remember when she
had made a casual visit to somepony, usually it was just to
either deliver an item, or collect one from a customer. She
looked around when Mana prompted her to sit down and relax, and
saw the pictures on the wall. She approached the wall, eyeing
all the different ponies immortalized by a camera. "Family?" she
asked, suddenly starting to feel a bit sad. Thankfully Mana
asked her to join him in his library while he would search for
       his journal.
Ryo looked inside the library, blinking few time after spotting
a couch and a comfortable looking chair inside. She looked back
at the room she had just left, seeing only few cushion here and
there. She giggled and shrugged it off, she had her own share of
awkward decoration habits. She began to walk around the room,
looking around the shelves filled with books. Many of them was
magic related and the worst part was that many of them were
unknown to her. Ryo had mostly read the magic related books from
the local library, only owning few pieces of literature herself.
The magic contraption on Mana's table caught her attention. Ryo
walked towards the table, wanting to get a closer look. "What is
this?" She asked, pointing at the device with gems that were
       constantly moving around.

"Yup," Mana had answered cheerfully, looking back at the mare
with a smile when she had asked about the portrait, "Not really
a big one but I'll point out who's who after I find my journal
if you'd like?" He offered, turning his head to face back
forward and not really expecting the mare to accept as he
doubted such a subject was as immediately interesting to
somepony else. Leading her into the library the stallion began
to move from table to desk to shelf and so on, horn lit up as
his magic picked up and moved around various items in search of
his journal, floating scrolls, books, and small trinkets here
and there as he attempted to track it down.
"Hm?" He hummed back in response to her question, following her
hoof to the device that was currently forming its floating gems
into the shape of a four-leaf clover, "Ah. That's actually one
of my more successful little side projects." He began trotting a
little closer and levitating the stack of books near the disk
away one by one to check for his journal. "I started making it
out of boredom one day then got all focused on it for a week or
so. Inside the disk there are a few small gems I've enchanted to
continuously cast levitation spells of varying and constantly
shifting strength on the gems above to form patterns and remain
in sync. Took a while to get the timing down but luckily the
enchantments are of such low strength it isn't hard to keep
running properly once you've got it all down. In the end its
just a pretty little thing that can be considered a fancier
equivalent to one of those little ball clacker things business
ponies sometimes have going on their desks." No journal here, or
so Mana concluded after the last book was checked, the guard
pony returning the stack to the table as well as floating his
helmet along with them as the device changed its pattern to that
       of a smiley face.
Trying to figure out where he'd put it, Mana took a second to
sit down next to Ryo and watch the device as he casted
occasional glances around his library. "You ever just start
working on something small and simple like that? You know, just
get distracted by a silly idea and run with it? I think once I
made a pair of crystals twirl around each other as if they were
dancing during an otherwise uneventful day..."

Ryo gave a single nod to confirm her interest in hearing more
       about Mana's family later.
"Wow..." Ryo looked back and forth between Mana and his
contraption as he explained what it was. She decided to try and
replicate it later herself, as it would serve as a good way to
learn enchanting gems. Ryo grinned when the gems re-arranged
themselves to represent a smiley face.
"All the time." Ryo answered, turning her attention to Mana.
"You could say that almost anything i do starts from a simple,
random idea. Anything from small things to big... things. But i
can't think of anything particularly useful... Except maybe that
huge lump of scrap metal that i accidentally formed to amplify
sound. It looks hideous, but it's effective in keeping crows
away from Steel's carrot patch. But mostly i just reconstruct
things to look different, you know... Add little decorations
here and there, nothing too big." Ryo looked around the library
again. "You got a lot of books here. Are they all yours?"

The pattern continued to shift and change as Ryo spoke, it going
from smiley face to card symbols, it turning into a spade then
diamond followed by clubs and finally a heart. "Huge lump of
scrap metal?" Mana echoed, slightly raising his brow in
curiosity as he used a hoof to try and straighten out a little
bit of helmet hair playing with his normally neat and tidy mane.
Must have been a bit distracted when he'd put his helmet back on
at the doughnut shop and messed it up a bit. "And that was an
accident? Um... Do you remember what you were trying to really
do at the time, or was it really just a random happening?"
Moving on to his collection, Mana grinned a little from his
seated position, "Yup, they're all mine. As is fitting for my
brand of egghead, I suppose, I tend to spend a lot of my time
reading so I figured I'd just try and get my own collection
going at home. I've got books ranging from most subjects I can
think of, but most tend to fall within the realm of magic. You
might have noticed I'm kind of running out of room actually. In
fact I still need to find a place for these alchemy books I
picked up recently..." A small shake of his head brought his
kind back on track and away from the rambling marathon he was in
danger of falling into. He still needed to find his journal...
Now when was the last time he saw it... He was... Looking over
books for... Hm, well, maybe. Was worth checking at least. "Are
you a big reader?" He asked, standing back up and walking
towards a far shelf on a back bookcase that, upon closer look,
had an entire shelf covered with a sliding panel and locked
securely. "Name a subject and I'm sure I've got something that
       might interest you."

"I have no idea. Your guess would be as good as mine. Steel
simply called it scrap sculpture... And he named it Matilda.
       *snicker*"
Ryo glanced around the library again when Mana confirmed that he
owned every book in the room. She added alchemy and potion
making to her 'things to try' list when Mana mentioned His
recently bought books. "I like to read a lot, but i have to
settle in lending books from the local library. I only own
couple of books myself." She looked around the shelves, reading
names from random books. What subject should she ask about.
"Well... Do you have any books about transmutation? I have read
the 'Transmutation. The beginners hoofbook' From the local
library, but i haven't really run into other books about it."
