       Re: A Potion a Day...

"A few reasons," Chaser answered, tilting the jar so as to pour
a small pile of what looked almost like ash onto the center of
the paper provided, the stallion being careful not to let it
kick itself back into the air as it was released from its
container, "the ponies who have been exposed to it suffer odd
effects. Hallucinations are the most common symptom between
cases, but each pony seems to experience this stuff a bit
differently. One mare thought she was strong enough to lift a
cart louder up with quarried stone over her head all on her own.
Thing is... she almost did. Other then that we've found some
ponies had their bodies either fully accept or violently reject
it with little middle ground, the latter resulting in some
ponies being hospitalized as if stricken with a severe illness
or moderately dangerous poison that there is no antidote to
while the former actually feel better than they have in years.
"We just call it 'Dust' right now," He went on to give a name to
the substance, "and I'd say it would be a good idea to avoid
breathing any more than the smallest trace amounts of it. So far
we've been undecided if its been worth looking into or should be
avoided and ignored so we've been passing small quantities off
to our most capable alchemists to see what they can do with it.
We're trying to see if its affects can be isolated then
concentrated and made into different potions, for both the good
and the bad. Think of it like a really special set of orders
being placed on behalf of Marigold itself. This will be worth
       your time, I guarantee it."

Thyme frowns slightly at the ash-like substance Chaser pours out
onto the counter and listens to the stallion's explanation. Odd,
inconsistent effects, almost like poison joke, though from the
sound of it it wasn't quite as extreme. Thyme files each effect
Chaser describes away in her mind as she leans in to get a
closer look at the Dust, being careful to hold her breath. For a
moment she feels lightheaded, and something at the back of her
skull begins to itch. She pulls back, taking in a deep breath
once she's at a safe distance and looking down at the stuff
thoughtfully. This would certainly be a challenge, but that only
made it all the more interesting. She's tempted to say she'll
look at it immediately, but there are some questions to be asked
first. "Is this all I get?" She asks, gesturing to the jar the
Dust was carried in. "And where does it come from?"

"This is indeed all you will be getting from us unless we start
seeing worthwhile results," Chaser replied, setting the jar down
next to the paper and laying the cork for it on top, "given how
its rather dangerous in its raw form, we don't want to spread it
around too much until we've gotten it all brewed up into
serviceable potions. You're actually one of a very small hooful
of ponies who will be getting any at all. The rest is being kept
safe and quiet to avoid unnecessary attention too early on, so
you'll understand if we ask you not to spread the news about
this discovery, yes? As for where it comes from? Underground."
       The stallion answered simply.

Thyme gives a slight nod, a little bit disappointed at getting
such a small amount of something that would no doubt prove very
interesting to work with. She did understand though, wouldn't
want ponies to know about something like this before they know
what can be done with it, especially as it could be quite
dangerous. She's a little more disappointed he was being vague
about where they got it, it's origin being something that might
have helped her figure out how it might work. She wasn't going
to press though, it wasn't incredibly important to know. "Is
there anything else I need to know?" The alchemist asks, leaning
closer to the jar again. "How it should be kept, other
precautions I should take, how to dispose of it properly?"

"The way the jar is now should be enough to store it safely and
without issue," Chaser began to answer, "just so long as you
keep the cork stuck in there tight when you aren't working with
it. As for precautions, all we can do is advise you to take
extra care when handling it. Would probably do well to just
always consider it to be a poison, one without an antidote yet
as that is one of the things were hoping you will be able to
help us with once you concentrate its negative effects. Which
means not we nor anypony can help you if you accidentally take
any in. Disposing of it will be more annoying then dangerous. We
want you to seal up any waste created during your
experimentation for us to pick up and dispose of ourselves so as
to reduce any chance of it leaking out and causing trouble.
Other than those things though, we believe you're more than
qualified to handle the Dust and trust that your experience and
       expertise will keep you safe."

Thyme nods pulling the jar closer to herself and lifting the
paper carefully in her magic. The rules were simple enough, and
she wasn't one to be reckless with potentially dangerous
substances anyway. She pulls off the cork and carefully pours
the Dust back into the jar, then folds up the paper. "You'll be
needing to take this?" She asks, resealing the jar and putting
it and the folded page back down on the counter. "I'll begin
working as soon as I can." She says, rolling back a little bit
now that the Dust has been put away. "Was there anything else?"

Chaser shakes his head, "No, not me. A pair of ponies will come
by to pick up any contaminated items, waste or what have you.
The first time they arrive I'll be there to introduce them to
you and to show you that they are the guys to trust with it."
Chaser then locked his case back up and pulled it down from the
counter to lean it against himself where he was sitting. "Other
than that though, and if you have no other questions, then I
would say that takes care of business. How's the family by the
way? Doing good?" He asked, doing his usual work in trying to
keep up friendly relations with the ponies he was sent to
       interact with.

Thyme nods and begins rolling around the counter, though her
ears remain pointed at the businesspony as she listens to him.
She gets out an empty bottle and carefully puts the folded paper
inside, then seals it and sets it aside. "That should be
everything." The green mare answers, picking up her hot cocoa
and bagel in her magic and moving them over to her. "We're doing
fine." She answers with a nod, taking a sip of her now much
cooler chocolate-y beverage. "Clarity had to see the doctor a
few days ago because of a speaker accident at a school dance,
       but she's doing alright."

"Speaker accident?" Chaser echoed back, eye momentarily being
drawn back to the bagel Thyme had as he remembered his lack of a
recent meal, "Was she just sitting too close to one while
blaring her favorite music at max volume? Probably believes her
ears are invincible. It warranted a hospital visit though?"

"Not quite." Thyme says with a shake of her head, taking another
sip of her now-lukewarm cocoa. "The speaker they'd had set up
was apparently set to be extremely loud. Apparently it blew her
right off the stage." She glances over at the bagel herself,
trying to judge if it would have gone cold too by now. "Her head
hurt and she was tired and disoriented. She was mostly just
disappointed she didn't get to dance with Clair though."
