Nightshade Origin

Nightshade was small when this happened. Not small, like, six or
seven years old, he was around two years old. His parents were
taking a small bundle to a small, dark warehouse off of a shady
street. They looked at each other with concern.
Nightshade's Mother: Are you sure this is a good idea? What if
something goes wrong? The guy said he could go blind if
something goes wrong...
Nightshade's Father: No. Nothing will go wrong, don't worry!
Charlie will be fine.
Nightshade's parents look at the bundle lovingly before heading
into the warehouse. They walk up to a man wearing some welding
equipment working on a machine of some sort. He looks up at
them, then down at the bundle, which is now seen to contain a
small child.
Nightshade's Mother: Just...just make sure nothing goes wrong...
Nightshade's Father: I told you, you shouldn't worry!
The Man: Give me the child. The operation will be done soon
enough.
Nightshade's mother looks reluctant, but Nightshade's father
takes the child and gives it to the man.
Nightshade's Father: Just be careful, Zhyner.
The man, who's name is now revealed to be Zhyner(Pronunciation:
Jy-ner), nods.
Zhyner: His eyesight will be greatly improved in the dark, but
make sure to keep him away from looking at direct light. It may
cause eye troubles.
Nightshade's father nods, and walks away to a bench with
Nightshade's mother. Zhyner looks down at the child.
Zhyner: Interesting specimen...time to get to work.
Zhyner takes the child to a small room in the corner of the
warehouse. He takes some equipment, and begins to operate. It
seems that Zhyner is shining the child's eyes. A few hours
later, Zhyner steps back and looks at his work. He grins at
another complete operation. He picks up the child and brings it
out to Nightshade's parents. Nightshade's mother stands and runs
over to Zhyner, taking the child.
Nightshade's Mother: Nothing went wrong?? Our baby isn't blind??
Zhyner: No. I made sure nothing went wrong.
Nightshade's father walks over and hears this, and he looks
happy.
Nightshade's Father: So the operation went as planned?
Zhyner: Yes. The operation is complete. The child's eyesight is
improved in the dark, but decreased in the light. However, if he
spends more time in the light than in the dark, this may be
changed. There's a balance between sight in the light and dark
that can be reached, but it requires spending much time in the
light.
Nightshade's Father: Thank you.
Nightshade's mother has happy tears in her eyes, and she nods,
agreeing with Nightshade's father.
Zhyner: Now, I will be expecting my payment, or there will be
severe consequences. You do remember the deadline, correct?
Nightshade's father absentmindedly nods, paying full attention
to the child, who now has bright, shiny eyes. The scene seems to
shift to an older child, now around 14. The child is outside,
now seemingly ready to jump out of the shadows and scare a kid,
but is sitting waiting, playing with a tree's shadow. The shadow
shifts, and the child doesn't notice, too focused on the shadow.
Another kid walks up.
Kid: Hey!! How are you doing that??
The child looks up and looks at the kid, alarmed and panicking.
The Child: Uh, what do you mean??
Kid: Don't try to pretend you weren't doing that!!
The Child: I...I wasn't...honest!! I wasn't doing that!!
Kid: FREAK!!
The kid runs off, and the child looks alarmed. The scene shifts
forward a few days again. The child's parents are seemingly
bundling him up. Nightshade's mother seems like she had been
crying. Nightshade's father has a grim look on his face.
Nightshade's Mother: Just...just make sure you don't forget your
name...your name is Charlie Schafer...we'll find you when we
can...
Nightshade/Charlie's Father: Take this, it will help. Only use
it if you need to.
Nightshade/Charlie's father hands Charlie a Beretta 92, along
with some ammo. Nightshade's father then covers Charlie in a
long, black coat. Nightshade/Charlie's father smiles at him.
Nightshade/Charlie's Mother: You look so much like your father
in that coat...stay safe. Don't give out information until you
can trust someone, and even then, don't give out some
information.
Charlie nods, unable to speak due to being in shock.
Nightshade/Charlie's mother seems to begin crying again, and
looks away for a bit. Charlie's father looks at him and pats him
on the shoulder, still looking grim.
Charlie's Father: We'll find you when we can.
Charlie nods again, and is now finally able to speak.
Charlie: W-will I really ever see you again?
Charlie's father looks at Charlie's mother, and she looks away,
again breaking out in tears.
Charlie's Father: You will. Trust me.
Charlie's father gives him a reassuring smile. Charlie tries to
smile back, but it's a weak attempt at a smile. Charlie's father
jumps when something falls over behind him.
Charlie's Father: Okay, Charlie, time to go...
Charlie: B-but I don't wanna!! I want to stay here with you
guys!! Why can't I??
Charlie's Father: It's time for us to pay for an operation...an
operation you had as a child...it's been too long...we even
avoided it by moving when you were seven...but we have to be
done avoiding it now.
Charlie looks shocked.
Charlie: W-what?
Charlie's Father: Charlie, you have to go. NOW.
Charlie's Mother: Please, Charlie. Please, listen to me and your
father, and go...
Charlie's father stands up and talks to Charlie's mother, but
Charlie catches the conversation.
Charlie's Father: We need to cover his tracks. Zhyner can't find
him.
Charlie's Mother: I know. He can cover his own tracks well
enough, though.
Charlie's mother looks at Charlie.
Charlie's Mother: Charlie, it's time for you to go, please.
Charlie resignedly nods. Charlie's father rushes Charlie out the
door, Charlie looks back with a depressed look on his face.
Charlie's mother waves at him, and Charlie's father gives a
reassuring smile to him. Charlie smiles back, but he then walks
towards the road, moving on. Charlie takes one look back at the
house that was his home for the first 14 years of his life, then
keeps walking, on and on. The scene shifts one last time, now
showing a 22 year old Nightshade/Charlie. Charlie is sitting
outside in an alley. Charlie seems to have remembered that
moment, and has tears in his eyes. Charlie shakes his head, and
lays down on the ground, trying to shake off the memories of
that fateful night when Charlie Schafer's life changed forever.
Of course, Charlie doesn't remember the operation that gave him
his ability to see in the dark. Charlie keeps shaking his head,
and more tears fall as he can't seem to stop remembering that
one day when he was 14 years old...
