Apologies--Serina/Verochka
By: MissM Date: August 15, 2013, 2:45 pm
---------------------------------------------------------
Verochka
When she'd woken up that morning, the first thing she remembered
was her interaction with Serina, and it made her cringe. Her
parents would have strung her up by her spinnerets at her
behavior and threatened her with not seeing Sebastian for a
month. They'd have also made her swear to not make any dresses
behind their backs for that entire month, probably, especially
given that she'd been in the middle of measuring for a whole
slew of them.
"UGH. I feel like such an ass..."
But how would she apologize? She knew where Serina lived...
although that would be rather personal... Maybe she could ask if
Serina wouldn't mind going for a walk.... Or something...
She searched for her phone, finding it on her dresser. She
glanced in the mirror, checking to see if she looked like she
had bedhead, and noticed the slight bruise from Serina's slap
the night before. Shrugging, she rearranged her hair to cover it
up.
"No use in covering it up, dear, it'll remind you not to loose
your temper", would be what her mother would have said about it.
"I don't care, its your face" would be her father's reply.
And about the fight?
"You were out of hand, you know that." That would be her mother.
Her father would sigh, just shake his head, and make some
comment about having inherited her mother's temper, and it would
take all of Vera's control to not lash out again, if she was
still angry. She still hadn't seen her father lose his temper,
at least in front of her. She'd heard him yelling in German, but
only through closed doors and never at her.
But quiet disappointment stings harder than yelling, she thought
to herself as she dressed and pulled up a map. And so, father,
mother, I am going to apologize. I wish you could be here now...
They probably wouldn't believe her if she told them. But then,
she had done a lot of growing up since she had gotten here. Or
so she hoped.
By the time she got to Serina's house, she was feeling very,
very embarrassed about her loss of temper, and wishing that
she'd just stayed her temper just a little longer. When she
finally got to what she hoped was the right house, she took a
moment to compose herself, reminding herself that she could not
afford to lose her temper again. She brushed her hair out of her
face, forgetting that there was a bruise (albeit a small one) on
her cheek.
Then she knocked, and took half a step back, hoping Serina, at
least, was home.

Serina Todd
Serina was angry. And when she got angry, she cleaned. And not a
soothing type of cleaning, she threw pillows and blankets
semi-neatly onto beds, scrubbed anything that water and soap
wouldn't ruin because it was what helped the most, and usually
ended the day exhausted and sore but feeling much calmer and was
usually able to actually think about what happened.
Her father jokingly said that this was the reason they
hadn't had to hire a maid or anything for a long time, because
while both of her parents were working Serina would often been
in some sort of rage and clean madly. At the end of the day the
house would be cleaner and Serina calmer, so it worked out well
for everyone.
The house was looking a lot better, and Serina had gotten
through the worst of her anger, and now serenely washed the
dishes(which she'd put off until after she was feeling calmer,
having learned from experience that when you are very angry and
rushed while cleaning anything fragile, things accidentally get
broken).
There was a knock on the door, and Serina peeked in the
mirror in the hallway to make sure she didn't look horribly
messy from cleaning(this mirror was there for that very purpose)
and answered the door.
It was none other than Verochka Mandasky, whom Serina's
parents now had to thank for a neat house. Serina frowned
slightly.
"What do you want? And how did you even find out where I live?"
She asked point-blank, not bothering to invite the other girl
inside. The girl had been insulting when Serina tried to offer
to help her out with the load of dresses she had seen the girl
working on for the upcoming event their friend Phoenix was
planning. Serina had offered to help and this Verochka had been
nothing but ungrateful.
Serina looked at the girl, there was a tiny bruise on her
cheek from when Serina had slapped her.
'Man, she bruises easily. I was being careful, if I'd known
she'd be black and blue from something so light I might have
gone easier on her....'
Her parents had thought she should have gone easier on the
girl last night too. But Serina had been angry, and that made
her listen less.
"Sorry about the bruise." Serina said quickly, then looked at
the door jamb and crossed her arms, not wanting to look like she
really cared, even though she genuinely felt sorry and wished
she hadn't slapped her.
She glanced at the other girl, waiting to find out why
Verochka had come to see her.

Verochka
When Serina opened the door, she immediately frowned.
"What do you want? And how did you even find out where I live?"
She asked rudely, clearly still angry at Verochka. Vera's nerve
threatened to break, but she steeled herself. It was pretty much
all her fault that this was even happening.
"Sorry about the bruise." Vera grimaced slightly. She hated the
fact that she bruised so easily; her parents were always after
her to be more careful.
"I wanted to apologize for my loss of temper yesterday." she
finally forced out into the silence. "I was out of line."
She couldn't meet the other girls' eyes properly, feeling blood
rushing to her cheeks. She HAD been out of line. They both knew
it.
She felt Serina's eyes on her, but it only made her cheeks turn
more red. The bruise on her cheek started throbbing a little,
reminding Vera only more of how much she had been in the wrong.
God, this is embarrassing... And it didn't help that she bruised
easily. She wished now that she had put something on her face to
cover it up, but it was too late.
At least, Vera thought, At least it will remind me to keep my
temper in better check next time.

"Sorry about the bruise." Vera grimaced slightly. Serina's
eyebrow lifted ever so slightly. Both girls paused for a moment.
"I wanted to apologize for my loss of temper yesterday. I
was out of line." Verochka seemed to have trouble saying this,
Serina wasn't surprised. She knew all too well it was difficult
to apologize sometimes, and here she was, making it harder for a
girl she'd met all of once.
"I know." Serina began. "But I was too, I'm sorry I probably
shouldn't have just pushed you around when I didn't know you,
but that's just how I react to things. Just ask my friends, I
usually don't get yelled at for offering to help people though."
Verochka looked away, her cheeks reddening with
embarrassment.
Serina looked at the other girl for a minute. "Well, instead of
just standing here awkwardly like were in some lame drama,
pausing for affect, you want to come inside?" Serina smirked a
little. Verochka seemed to blush even redder, but Serina
couldn't be sure.
"For the record, my offer of helping with the dresses still
stands, as long as you aren't going to yell at me the whole
time." Serina grinned at Verochka, hoping the girl would just
shut up and let her help, she was definitely going to need it.
This was a pretty big job for one girl, making special-order
outfits for a dozen or so people.
Serina quickly changed the subject, suspecting Vera wouldn't
immediately jump at the idea just because she was slightly more
formal about the offer.
"Careful, I think the floor might still be wet from mopping."
She added sheepishly, realizing this as her foot slipped a
little and she grasped at the door jamb. Smiling with
embarrassment, Serina stepped aside and gestured for Verochka to
come in if she wanted to.

Verochka
Serina looked at her for a minute, but Vera couldn't think of
anything else to say until the other girl spoke again.
"Well, instead of just standing here awkwardly like were in some
lame drama, pausing for affect, you want to come inside?"
"Sure." said Verochka. Anything was better than standing
awkwardly on the doorstep.
"For the record, my offer of helping with the dresses still
stands, as long as you aren't going to yell at me the whole
time."
Verochka was stunned into silence, wanting to say thank you and
apologize again, but being struck so dumb that the girl, even
after their shouting match, was still willing to help. Well,
you're the only one with a temper problem, she reminded herself.
But before she got a chance to answer, Serina led her into the
house.
"Careful, I think the floor might still be wet from mopping."
Serina added sheepishly, realizing this as she slipped a little
and grasped at the door jamb. Smiling with embarrassment, Serina
stepped aside and gestured for Verochka to come in if she wanted
to.
After a short hesitation, Verochka walked in, careful about her
footing. After they were out of the doorway, Verochka turned
halfway back towards Serina and said,
"I would actually be really grateful if you could help me with
the dresses... there is so much work that needs to be done..."
She trailed off, unsure of how to ask to see examples of
Serina's skill. "How good are you with a thread and needle?" she
finally asked. "I've got spinning the silk, coloring it, and
cutting it down to an art, but sewing always takes me ages, and
my eyes and fingers and back can only take so much in one
sitting...." she trailed off, trying to do the math in her head,
and not liking the numbers she ended up with. "And there is so
much to do."
And even with Serina's help, they would be working hard to make
the deadline. And she knew her temper wouldn't improve with the
passage of time, either. And the complications of having to keep
it all a secret on top of that didn't help, although what with
her and Chevy not talking, it wouldn't be too much of an issue.
She hoped.

Serina closed the door behind Vera, who turned towards Serina.

but I have one of those grandma's that babysat me all the time
and she felt I needed to know how to sew some, but it has been
several years since I sewed much...." Serina paused to think
about it. Yeah, she was pretty sure she would be fine. She
smiled at Vera again.
"And as far as how long I can sew, I may not be the best
thing that ever happened across a needle and thread but I
certainly have endurance and enough stubbornness to not give
up!" She felt very sure of herself as far as being able to sew
rather well. "Should I come to help at a certain time...? Or
what?"

"... I've got spinning the silk, coloring it, and cutting it

probably not as much as Vera did.
Serina grinned at Verochka. "Well, my sewing may need practice,

"Well. To be honest, every second is needed. I mean..." she
looked around. "Would you mind coming with me right now? I could
tell you everything on the way. And... well, a warm up sew. I
still do them, although given the sheer amount..." She
swallowed. "I just don't want anything to go wrong. Not with
this..."
It really was one of the biggest things she'd ever done, and
even knowing she had help, she was still nervous. She really
wanted to have everything turn out well. And not just the
dresses... but they were the key to everything else.
"And I still need to take your measurements." She smiled, a
little hopeful that things would turn out alright between the
two of them.

Serina paused. The girl seemed to doubt her sewing skills, and
was awkward about saying so. Well, Serina would just have to
prove Vera wrong. Very wrong.
"Okay, let's go." Serina had to stop for a second. "I should
call my parents, come to think of it. But don't worry about the
warm-up sew thing. It should take no time at all. I'll need to
see the dress designs or whatever we're supposed to be working
on, because I pretty well know what I can do and what I can't.
You may or may not have to do the more complicated sewing and
just leave the basic stuff you'd take awhile on to me or
whatever. Give me just a minute." Serina left Verochka and
walked into the kitchen to call her parents. Moments later she
came back into the entry way with her parents' permission to go.
"And I still need to take your measurements." Verochka said,
smiling.
Serina shrugged. "We'll get the measurements. All- in- good-
time, Miss Mandasky." Serina paused after several words
punctuating them with a shake of her index finger, smiling at
the other girl and grabbing a light coat. "C'mon, we have
wooooork to dooooooo!" Serina sang as she led Vera outside and
locked the door behind her.
Serina is done here!

Vera was silent. Her patience with people would be tried by
Serina to the utmost, she knew. The girl was far to upbeat for
the amount of work they had to do... But she needed the girl. So
she sucked up her problems and followed Serina away from the
house.
Interaction finished
