       Erin woke with a start, feeling the thud of her heart as if
       she’d been running a marathon. It didn’t take her half a second
       to register why she felt that way. That… was a really weeeird
       dream…
       She hadn’t even watched Brave before bed.
       Would that have made her Merida? Erin always thought Merida was
       one of the coolest princesses. But Merida’s mom became a bear
       because Merida didn’t appreciate her and wanted to change her.
       Erin didn’t want to change Daniel, though, she thought to
       herself as she turned over in bed. (It was far too early to get
       up.) Daniel was good just as he was.
       Unless it was that she was scared that Daniel would change?
       Because of his new Enhancement? But people didn’t change because
       of their Enhancements. That was silly. No one she knew was any
       different on the inside because of their Enhancement.
       …Yeah, that was a dumb idea. Definitely the wrong way to read
       into that dream.
       Maybe it was a dream that was more about Reese than Daniel.
       She’d felt so worried about how Reese would react in the dream.
       The entire dream-house and been a dream-wreck, and Dream-Daniel
       had gone who-knows where… What was that supposed to mean?
       She closed her eyes again, wanting to go back to sleep, but
       simultaneously too curious about what seemed to be a totally
       random dream. But Erin didn’t think dreams were really random;
       your brain just didn’t know how to communicate to you clearly.
       Why would she dream about losing Daniel? She’d lost an important
       person to Reese, in her dream.
       Losing, losing, lost… lost things, lost time, lost
       opportunities…
       Did I lose an opportunity? With Reese?  Is that what my brain is
       telling me?
       …How does my brain know stuff I don’t know? Freaky….
       But then… maybe my brain is right. He’s really sweet, and funny,
       and nice, and stuff. And he did take me on a date once… I
       thought he was just being nice because I was sad about Yukito
       and he wanted me to feel better or whatever. But… maybe he likes
       me more than that.
       No, that’s not true… he’s obviously head over heels for Syd.
       She’s gorgeous, and she’s so good to him, and they’re so cute
       together.
       And I have Corzen, anyway.
       I didn’t actually miss an opportunity… did I?
       She wrinkled her nose. Stupid. Who reads that much into a dream?
       Just go back to sleep and tell Reese and Daniel about the dream
       later, because it’s freaking hilarious. Not symbolic. You didn’t
       miss a thing.
