Fleetwood Skating started out as a simple roller skate rink, but
quickly grew to also contain an arcade, a concessions stand, and
a game room with things like foosball and air hockey. With the
influx of so many young people in the area after the Academy was
opened, the rink grew rapidly in popularity. The owner began to
open up the rink for other community events, like classic movie
nights and dances. Movie nights are typically on Friday nights,
but the dances are scheduled at different times depending on
which dance club organizes them.
Charles Fleetwood (NPC) both owns and manages the rink the
majority of the time, with a handful of part-time employees to
help him out. Fairly young to own his own business, Charles acts
older than his meer 28 years in an attempt to sound more
authoritative than he actually is. Because of this, he often
comes across as bossy and busy, but he really means well and
wants the best for his guests (not customers.) He is nearly
always in need for a couple of extra hands to work for him, and
it's a good job for some of the local high school and college
students.

When she'd first suggested dancing, Erin hadn't thought of what
Corzen would interpret that as. Thankfully, he didn't interpret
it to mean something boring like a waltz or something....
Inwardly, she'd been pretty sure that's what he would have
suggested. Part of her was hoping it would be something really
energetic like hiphop, like what she used to take before she
dropped out of it. But swing dancing was definitely more fun
than ballroom dancing, even though she'd never done much of it.
Of course, Erin hadn't had much of a reason to do it.
It had surprised her that Corzen had so willingly agreed to take
her out, even though she had been kind of a brat the day before.
But he'd been so mean about not helping her! He didn't
understand what a pain it was, and how useless it was for her.
Why bother investing so much time into something that didn't
matter? But he'd been so nice about his apology, and she wasn't
failing her class as of yet, so things were okay. And he'd been
sweet enough to promise to help her out any time in the future,
which she knew she would. She was so, so grateful for him.
She liked that Corzen was more than willing to take her out to
dance, and it didn't hurt that he looked really great in a suit,
too. She took his hand in hers as they walked in and sent him a
grin. "You know how to swing dance? I only know basic stuff, so
maybe you get to teach me," she told him sprightly.

Corzen Foster
The moment Erin suggested they go dancing, Corzen felt a wave of
relief wash over him. Finally he had the opportunity to share
something with her that he was completely confident in. He
didn't know if he was good at kissing, as she was the only girl
he'd ever kissed, and he knew that he needed to work on his
music, but dancing, that was something he could do. Part of him
knew he was being overly confident, which was something he
normally steered clear of, but tonight it pushed away the
comfortable doubt that had settled in his stomach since the
night before and he wanted nothing more than for that feeling to
go away. He really knew he shouldn't have promised to help her
again, especially if all she wanted was for him to do her work
for her, but he couldn't stand to see her upset... and so he
made a promise that he wasn't sure he could keep.
He shook the memory of the night before from his head and,
instead, chose to focus on the night ahead. No amount of
over-confidence could chase away the way his heart stuttered in
his chest when he looked at Erin or the voice in the back of his
head that reminded him that nothing ever turned out perfectly.
It was this loophole in his confidence that had him wiping his
palms against his suit pants before taking Erin's hand and
smiling down at her. Every part of him knew, even without
Yukito's input, that Erin Spenser was special and deserved to be
treated like a princess and he would be damned if he didn't make
her feel that way, especially after their conflict the night
prior.
"You know how to swing dance? I only know basic stuff, so maybe
you get to teach me," His smile widened and he held her hand a
bit tighter, leading her further into the building.
"Indeed, I do. It would an honor to teach you, Miss Erin." He
responded with a smile, lifting her hand to his lips and kissing
it gently.

Erin Spenser
"You know how to swing dance? I only know basic stuff, so maybe
you get to teach me," she told him happily. Corzen was so kind
and so patient, she really wouldn't mind him teaching her, but
since it was dance, it was even better. Dance was fun, and
active, and musical, and everything that she liked. His hand
tightened a bit on hers, making Erin's heart flutter just a
little. She loved stupid little things like that... holding
hands, kisses on the cheek, they didn't even have to be anything
special. Somehow they felt special to her. It felt really good
to know someone got that about her.
"Indeed, I do. It would an honor to teach you, Miss Erin." He
responded with a smile, lifting her hand to his lips and kissing
it gently.
At the sweet, classic gesture, Erin started giggling, despite
herself. "How are you even real, Corzen?" She tilted her head up
to give him a kiss on his cheek, then walked deeper into the
dance floor. She put her hands in his, automatically falling
into rhythm with the music. It was fast paced, bubbly, and
loud-- as loud as swing music could be, anyway, and she loved
it. "So I once learned the Charleston in school," she said over
the music, taking a moment to show him what she knew. "You can
do it with two people, too, right?" She took his hands back in
hers, moving with the music, adding, "I think that's the only
real old dance I know."

murmured, lifting her hand to his lips and kissing it gently.
She giggled and he felt his stomach swoop and his pride swell a
bit.
"How are you even real, Corzen?" she asked before tilting her
head up and pressing a kiss to his cheek.
"I am?" he responded, raising an eyebrow as they moved deeper
onto the dance floor, "Or am I simply a figment of your
imagination, Miss Erin?" He smirked down at her as she took both
of his hands, falling easily into the rhythm of the music around
them. He studied her carefully, his body moving in time with
her's subconsciously, leaving his mind to wander freely. Her
dark waves bounced rhythmically, framing her smiling face and
causing his movements to stutter a bit as he almost tripped over
his own feet.
"So I once learned the Charleston in school," she commented,
breaking away from him to demonstrate, "You can do it with two
people, too, right?"
"You can," he answered, his eyes sparkling, as she took his
hands again and continued dancing.
"I think that's the only real old dance I know." she added after
a movement.
"Well then, we'll have to change that, won't we?" he remarked,
"It is swing dancing, after all." With that he let go of
her hands and moved to hold her hips carefully before lifting
her up and spinning her in a circle. Gently, he set her back
down and ducked to press a kiss on her cheek, his face a little
flushed.

"You can't be a figment, Corzen," Erin objected with a laugh.
"Other people have talked to you. So unless you are all just
people in my dream, you have to be real!" she explained as she
took his hands in hers, starting to move in her own way to the
music. While she didn't really know much about this kind of
dancing, but she could at least mimic some of the moves she saw
around her. At one point they stumbled a bit, which Erin just
chalked up to her own inexperience. She pulled away for a
minute.
"So I once learned the Charleston in school." Erin showed him a
little bit of what she remembered. "You can do it with two
people, too, right?"
"You can," he answered as she took her place back in the dance
with him.
"I think that's the only real old dance I know," Erin
confessed, feeling a little apologetic. She really could dance
well, but this was different than what she was used to. She
couldn't show off very well when she was in unfamiliar
territory, and he might think she didn't have a clue what she
was doing... which would be about right.
"Well then, we'll have to change that, won't we?" he remarked,
making Erin grin again. "It is swing dancing, after all." And
he let go of her hands, moving to hold her at the waist, and
suddenly Erin felt herself lift off the ground. He spun her
around to the music, making her squeal a little in delighted
surprise. Gently, he set her back down and gave her a warm kiss
on her cheek.
She beamed at him, still feeling the fluttery feeling that came
with 'flying,' even if it was very temporary. For a moment, Erin
felt breathlessly happy. "Okay, I officially like swing dance,"
she announced, unable to stop her smile. "Where did you learn to
dance like that?"
"Hey, Corzen," Erin mentioned a little later, as the pace of the
music slowed enough to talk more, "I want you to come watch our
band play! I kinda worry that you won't like it, though...but I
really want you to come!" Despite her admitted doubt, Erin's
voice ended on a cheery invitation. She really did want to see
him there. It would mean so much to see the person who was so
kind to her there supporting her and her band. Her brain
instantly leapt from that thought to another-- "Corzen... are
we, like... a thing now? Like, a couple?"

He spun her around carefully, his fingers digging into her hips
a bit as he held her steady before setting her down gently and
kissing her lightly on the cheek. She beamed up at him and he
felt his stomach flutter, his grin widening.
"Okay, I officially like swing dance. Where did you learn to
dance like that?" she asked, still smiling brightly. He grasped
her hands again, leading her in another quick paced dance.
"Mom paid for lessons when I was little," he murmured, drawing
her in close before urging her away again, in time with the
music, "we used to dance around the living room all the time."
Soon, he was so caught up in the music and the feel of her hands
in his that he lost track of time, until the music began to
slow. He pulled her close, sliding his hands down to rest at her
waist and leaning in to press his forehead against her's.
"Hey, Corzen," she began after a moment, "I want you to come
watch our band play! I kinda worry that you won't like it,
though...but I really want you to come!" He smiled, leaning back
a bit to look her in the eyes.
"I wouldn't miss it for the world, Miss Erin." he responded.
"Corzen... are we, like... a thing now? Like, a couple?" she
inquired. He felt his breath catch in his throat and he leaned
back in to press their foreheads together. His heart hammered in
his chest, thumping and banging against his rib cage,
threatening to break free. He blinked for a moment, drawing in a
deep breath and licking his lips.
"Well, Miss Erin, I suppose that is up to you," he whispered,
desperately trying to keep the quiver out of his voice and quell
the excitement that was stirring in his stomach. He wouldn't--
couldn't-- let himself believe that she really wanted him, not
until she said it out loud, until he knew that he was more than
homework help or someone to kiss and hug while Yukito was out of
reach. He needed to know he was more, he needed to hear her say
it.

"I wouldn't miss it for the world, Miss Erin."
His response was simple, but it made her simply elated, hearing
him promise he'd be there. She couldn't imagine not being able
to share her music with someone, especially someone who was
her... what was Corzen, exactly? They couldn't be just friends,
but he hadn't actually said if he wanted to be anything else...
but she couldn't really count on her own view of what he felt.
"Corzen... are we, like... a thing now? Like, a couple?"
He seemed to hesitate for a moment, then, quietly, he said,
"Well, Miss Erin, I suppose that is up to you."
Erin felt her face sore from smiling, but it didn't really
matter so much. He was being so sweet, waiting for her, and
dancing with her, and making her feel like a princess. "Well,
yeah!" she blurted with a laugh. "You're too perfect to be just
my friend." She took his hands in hers and pulled him towards
her, giving him a prolonged kiss on his lips. "We've stopped
dancing," she observed after a moment. "So, teach me some more
of that swing dancing, hm?" Erin smiled knowingly.

The whole world seemed to still as he waited for her response.
The music was drowned out by his blood rushing in his ears and
he closed his eyes briefly, waiting for the moment to pass.
"Well, yeah!" she laughed, "You're too perfect to be just my
friend." And then she was grabbing both of his hands and pulling
him toward her, their lips meeting in a kiss. He smiled against
his lips, the room coming back to life around him. He could hear
the song taper away into a new one and feel the crowd around
them begin to move and shuffle to music. He slipped his hands
out of her's and cupped her face gently, thumbs stroking her
cheekbones lightly.
"We've stopped dancing," she comment after they pulled back,
"So, teach me some more of that swing dancing, hm?" She smiled
at him and he wrinkled his nose playfully, taking her hands
again.
"I suppose I could do that," he responded, leading her a bit to
the music and leaning down to whisper in her ear, "But I'm kind
of enjoying watching you." He tugged her against him lightly and
twirled her in time with the song.

Erin Spenser
"You're too perfect to be just my friend." And then she was
grabbing both of his hands and pulling him toward her, their
lips meeting in a kiss. The music changed, picked up again, but
they didn't join in-- not quite yet. Corzen slipped his hands
out of her's and cupped her face gently, thumbs stroking her
cheekbones lightly. No one had ever held her quite like that
before. True, she hadn't had tons of dating experience, but
she'd had a couple of boyfriends before. And sure, they kissed
and hugged and snuggled, but it wasn't gentle and small and
seemingly insignificant. But those insignificant actions, they
meant so, so much. No one had really gotten that about her
before...
"We've stopped dancing," she comment after they pulled back, her
voice momentarily subdued. Then, with a grin, she started again,
"So, teach me some more of that swing dancing, hm?"
Corzen took her hands back in his. "I suppose I could do that,"
he responded, leading her a bit to the music and leaning down to
whisper in her ear, "But I'm kind of enjoying watching you." He
tugged her against him lightly and twirled her in time with the
song. Erin tried her best to follow Corzen's lead, which was
actually pretty easy, since he was a good leader. And everyone
else knew what they were doing, too, so it wasn't so hard to
copy.
Twirling in and out of his arms, Erin began to focus more on the
music itself. It was lively and bouncy, and the vocals were
smooth, with just enough jazz to keep them interesting. "Hey,
Corzen," Erin called, once more twirling inward so that she was
right against him. "You know how this music has a lot of horns
and trumpets and stuff? I was just telling Zinnia the other day
how if we put trumpets in with Veritas that we could bring back
ska! I always liked ska, because it was like a mashup of punk
rock and sweet jazz, but I guess that mashup was too weird for
most, because it died out pretty fast." She kept talking as she
danced, now feeling much more comfortable about following the
movements. "Jeremy-- he plays drums with us-- he can play
trumpet, too, but I'm the only one who thinks it would be fun to
at least try it in our music. I mean, I guess I could see how it
wouldn't really fit, though. Screaming and brass bands just
don't really go together well," Erin joked, laughing a little.
"I kind of hope I can get better vocally, so I'm strong enough
to sing and scream, too. It's always the guys that scream and
then the girl comes in and sings all pretty and stuff, which I
think is awesome-- I really love singing! But I don't like that
that's the same thing so many bands do. I want to be different,
and to challenge myself vocally, even if it gets me weird looks
or whatever. Right now, it's one of Trent's jobs, not really
mine. I'm not strong enough yet. You need to do that just right,
or you screw up your vocal folds. And those are so tiny and
flimsy, I'm pretty sure they can't be enhanced. But Trent said
he'd see if he could find me some video lessons that he had
around his house, since there's a right technique and all. Hey,
do that thing where you lift me like that again!"
