       Verochka Stolich-Königin
There was a knock on the door, and she excitedly opened it to
see Erin --or a very, very close look-alike--standing there.
"I'm Erin, in case you couldn't recognize me from my pictures
and stuff," the girl said, giving a bit of a nervous laugh. So
       it was Erin after all!
Vera's eyes sparkled. "Come in, Erin! So nice to see you outside
       of class for once."
"So," she said, coming inside, "How do we do this thing? You
measure me, I feel all stylish, magic happens, and then I get to
pretend I'm super stylish in real-life?" Erin sent her a grin,
pretending to fix her hair very posh-like. Verochka took in the
glorious curls of the hair in front of her, the full mouth, and
cute button nose, and several designs crashed together in her
head. She smiled, shaking her head a little bit to clear it,
       moving on to the measurements.
"Absolutely! It won't take too long, just stand in the middle
somewhere and be still for a few minutes, and we'll be done!
Fortunately for dresses the measurements aren't too involved."
She was becoming happier, taking on her cheer from the girl
standing before her. And she could see dresses on the girl as if
she were actually wearing them, but none of them were fitting
particularly well with what she actually saw of the girl.
"Hmmm. What did you say your enhancement was?" she asked, trying
to confirm it. Maybe hearing it from the girl would give her a
little more to go on. Art sometimes worked that way. "Breathing
       underwater, right?"

"So," she said, coming inside, "How do we do this thing? You

pretend I'm super stylish in real-life?" Erin sent her a grin,
pretending to fix her hair very posh-like.
"Absolutely!" Verochka replied, sounding just as enthusiastic as
Erin had hoped she'd be. It would have been really awkward to
come and stand there and be measured by someone who wasn't very
happy to be there. "It won't take too long, just stand in the
middle somewhere and be still for a few minutes, and we'll be
done! Fortunately for dresses the measurements aren't too
       involved."
Erin laughed. "Then why do they make it look so freaking
complicated on TV? Like on those wedding dress type shows, and
the girl is getting fitted, and she's freaking out because it's
stressing her so much, but all they're doing is holding some
tape measure up.... I never really got that." She gave a shrug,
face puckered in genuine curiosity for an answer that wouldn't
really satisfy. "I will do my best to stand still for you,
Ve..roch...ka!" Erin played like she was saluting, then did her
best to stand still in the open space for her. "Sorry, I didn't
practice your name before saying it, so I just kinda guessed...
Was I close?" she asked hopefully.
"Hmmm. What did you say your enhancement was?" Verochka asked.
       "Breathing underwater, right?"
"Well, pretty much, yeah," Erin replied. "It's more like... my
whole respiratory system is Enhanced. I don't have gills or
anything, so I don't convert the water to oxygen. I can just
deal without oxygen a lot longer than everyone else. Kinda more
like a dolphin than a fish, you know?"
She thought about her words for a moment, watching Verochka as
she worked. An idea occurred to her, and Erin's face brightened
at the prospect. "Oh, hey! Are you gonna make something themed
with my Enhancement? Like Cinna did for Katniss in the Hunger
Games movie, where it was themed to her district? I can be 'The
Girl Underwater!' Only that doesn't sound threatening and fierce
at all...." Erin laughed, hard, covering her face with her hands
as she nearly bent double in giggles. "Ah, sorry! I wasn't
supposed to move!" Trying to subdue the laughter, Erin reverted
to her staunch stance. "Ready when you are, Sergeant
       Seamstress!"

Erin was excited as she waved her in and explained that it
wouldn't take too long to finish the measurements.
Erin laughed. "Then why do they make it look so freaking
complicated on TV? Like on those wedding dress type shows, and
the girl is getting fitted, and she's freaking out because it's
stressing her so much, but all they're doing is holding some
tape measure up.... I never really got that." She gave a shrug,
       face puckered in genuine curiosity.
"Well, I have a feeling that part of it is the wedding, I mean,
everyone I've seen get married always freaks out at the shortest
pause in preparations. And freak out when their ideal dress that
they knew was out of their price range is actually out of their
price range, or the style their mother's wedding dress was in
isn't what they wanted..." Verochka rolled her eyes. "The list
could go on. Mainly, though, it's because it's their wedding.
And if they don't make their dress size they'll be upset. I
never understood that point of view, whatever dress size you
       are, you are, you know?"
"I will do my best to stand still for you, Ve..roch...ka!" Erin
played like she was saluting, then did her best to stand still
in the open space for her. "Sorry, I didn't practice your name
before saying it, so I just kinda guessed... Was I close?" she
       asked hopefully.
"Yep!! Right on. It's Russian for 'faith'."
She looked at Erin, still unable to come up with any designs
that she thought would work. "Hmmm. What did you say your
enhancement was?" Verochka asked. "Breathing underwater, right?"
Perhaps hearing a more detailed description would help her out.
"Ah, ok." An idea settled into her mind, and she smiled. She
loved when things just fell into place.
As Verochka was taking her measurements, an idea occurred to
Erin and she bounced out of her pose as she shared it. "Oh, hey!
Are you gonna make something themed with my Enhancement? Like
Cinna did for Katniss in the Hunger Games movie, where it was
themed to her district? I can be 'The Girl Underwater!' Only
that doesn't sound threatening and fierce at all...." Erin
laughed, hard, covering her face with her hands as she nearly
bent double in giggles. "Ah, sorry! I wasn't supposed to move!"
Trying to subdue the laughter, Erin reverted to her staunch
stance. "Ready when you are, Sergeant Seamstress!"
Verochka laughed. "You're ok. Yeah, that's the general idea for
the tailored dresses, is that they reflect the enhancement
somehow. Although I had a bit of trouble with yours, I think I
have a good idea about what it's going to be like now. Thanks
for helping me out, by the way." She smiled. "I think you'll all
love your dresses. Although we will also all be showing a dress
of Chevelle's, you know? And I'm working on a grand-finale
dress, don't tell anyone!... except maybe Natalie." She paused
for a moment. "God, my schoolwork is going to suck for the next
few weeks... but it'll totally be worth it." She was talking
more to herself, but it was still true.
"It'll totally be worth it, though." She smiled up at Erin.
"Thank you, I'm done! I look forward to seeing you in your
       dress!!"

       Verochka
As Erin bounced out the door, Verochka smiled again. Things were
going so well.... She was lost in thought in a moment,
       daydreaming about dresses and people.
The next knock on her door brought her out of her reverie, and
she grabbed her measuring tape, a smile spreading across her
face as she hurriedly threw on her heels. She hated being short,
       even relatively.
"Come in!" she called out. "I'm ready!" She was. She LOVED
making dresses, suits a close second, and especially when they
could come in pairs. She just hoped whomever it was wasn't
measure-shy, because she was rather fast and close when it came
to measurements. She didn't care what people said to Sebastian
behind her back, there were no extra favors being done.
It would literally only take a few minutes.
"Hello! My name is Verochka, nice to meet you. So many new faces
to learn, what was your name again?"

       Jasper Evans
Great. Why had Jasper felt the need to mention the dressmaker to
Suzanne? After saying something to her, she had looked so happy
and said something about how much she loved seeing Jasper
"dressed up nicely". So he had to go for the measuring-thing the
girl named Verochka had set up. He knew that she would be having
a lot of people in and out, and just wanting to get whatever
measurements she needed for the big outfit-charade coming up and
talk to her about one more thing that was important to him.
He walked to the address he had been told to, and knocked
timidly on the door. He didn't feel very comfortable having
someone measure him for clothes, that was why he had always
argued about not getting custom-made clothing. But this time it
had been for Phoenix's friend. And Phoenix asked him to, so he
       reluctantly agreed.
The girl called out."Come in!" she called out. "I'm ready!"
Awkwardly opening the door, which he found unlocked, Jasper
       stepped inside.
Jasper looked at the girl, she had long red hair and pretty
green eyes, she was rather tall, about the same height as Jasper
himself. She had a nice smile and looked rather excited. He had
no idea why. But he didn't stop to wonder much.
"Good afternoon, Verochka. I'm Jasper Evans." He said, as
politely as he could with his awkwardness. "Um, I actually came
because my friend Phoenix asked me to for the Chevelle-thing,
but there's something I'd like to talk to you about first, do
you think you could make a dress for my little sister? I will
gladly pay for it, or I wouldn't ask. And my only request is
that it preferably be purple, because that's her favorite
color." He rushed through this, trying to not be rude while
trying to get across what he was asking. "It doesn't have to be
now, her birthday isn't for several weeks, and if you don't want
to or don't have time I can manage."
He looked at the floor, wondering whether he had been pushy or
asking too much. And heartily, yet silently, wishing he could be
a little less constantly worried about upsetting others.

       Verochka
A shortish guy walked in--almost as short as Vera was in her
heels. She smiled, not wanting to scare him off.
"Good afternoon, Verochka. I'm Jasper Evans." He said politely.
She noticed the claws on his hands and winced. Poor thing! "Um,
I actually came because my friend Phoenix asked me to for the
Chevelle-thing, but there's something I'd like to talk to you
about first, do you think you could make a dress for my little
sister? I will gladly pay for it, or I wouldn't ask. And my only
request is that it preferably be purple, because that's her
favorite color." He rushed through this, clearly wondering if
she could. It was cute! She smiled even wider. "It doesn't have
to be now, her birthday isn't for several weeks, and if you
don't want to or don't have time I can manage."
He looked at the floor, clearly nervous about her reply.
"Sure, not a problem, do you know her size? I don't know if I
can get it to be colored, my silk is difficult to dye. No
worries about cost, darling, The color will be the hardest part.
And measurements, if you want it to be a secret." She looked up
       at him.
"But, for now, can I take your measurements? And... How much do
those claws catch on things? Because we'll have to either skip
the top of the suit or make it... open sleeved... or make them
twice as roomy and find some way to make it look otherwise.
Sorry... uncased claws are the last thing I expected to deal
with. No offense, I promise. It just makes making a silk suit a
       challenge..."
She paused, wishing she'd known this before the first meeting.
She really needed to pay attention a little more when people
       were discussing Enhancements.
"Well, I'll think about it later. Anyway. Don't move unless I
tell you, ok? And if you get uncomfortable, please tell me and
I'll... figure something out. I need measurements. Ok?" She held
up her measuring tape and slipped off her shoes."Now, lets get
       started."

       Jasper Evans
"It doesn't have to be now, her birthday isn't for several
weeks, and if you don't want to or don't have time." Jasper
said, then looked nervously at his shoes, waiting for Miss
       Verochka's reply.
"Sure, not a problem, do you know her size?" Verochka replied,
wearing a wide and very becoming smile. Jasper smiled back at
       her.
"I don't know if I can get it colored, my silk is very hard to
dye." As she said this, at first Jasper's face fell. But he only
paused for a moment, "Oh, well if you can't color it purple then
we can work around that, it isn't necessary. I really appreciate
you being willing to make the dress in the first place." he
       said, smiling broadly again.
"No worries about cost, darling. The color will be the hardest
part, and the measurements, if you want it to be a secret."
Verochka looked up at Jasper. She did seem to revel in her work,
and that was something that Jasper enjoyed seeing.
Jasper laughed. "Well, I think I'll be leaving all of the
secrecy to my Mum." He replied, still laughing.
"But, for now, can I take your measurements?" Verochka said.
"And... How much do those claws catch on things?" Looking at his
rather obvious claws protruding from his finger tips, all Jasper
       could say was "Umm... "
*"Because we'll have to skip the top of the suit or make it...
open sleeved... Or make them twice as roomy and find some way of
making it look otherwise. Sorry... uncased claws are the last
thing I expected to deal with. No offense, I promise. It just
makes making a silk suit a challenge... "* She said.
Verochka paused. "About those," Jasper said awkwardly. "if I'm
careful then my claws don't mess things up. I'm kind of getting
used to them." Talking about his claws tended to make Jasper a
       little self-conscious...
"Well, I'll think about it later. Anyway. Don't move unless I
tell you, ok?" Verochka said. "And if you get uncomfortable,
please tell me and I'll... figure something out. I need
       measurements. Ok?"
"Um, okay. I'll try and let you know if I get too
       uncomfortable... " Jasper said unsurely.
Verochka pulled out a measuring tape and slipped off a pair of
high heeled shoes. "Now, let's get started."
About then was when Jasper started feeling particularly awkward,
but that wasn't very uncommon. Besides, he had agreed to do this
for Phoenix, who he couldn't let down. Awkward as Jasper was.

But he only paused for a moment, then went on, a smile returning

about coloring possibilities. She hated letting people down.
"No worries about cost, darling. The color will be the hardest
part, and the measurements, if you want it to be a secret."
Verochka looked up at Jasper, smiling. She always appreciated a

get herself out of the hole she thought she'd dug herself into,
       then pausing, lost in thought.
"About those," Jasper said awkwardly, "if I'm careful then my
claws don't mess things up. I'm kind of getting used to them."

Ok?" She hated that people still sometimes got on her case for
getting up close and personal, and spread rumors behind her
back, just because she took measurements in awkward places
sometimes. At least, they would until they came in for a
fitting. Then they shut up after she explained it. But it was
       still sometimes awkward.
"Um, okay. I'll try and let you know if I get too
       uncomfortable... " Jasper said unsurely.
Verochka pulled out a measuring tape and slipped off her
high-heeled shoes. "Now, let's get started."
She took all of the chest and arm measurements, torso
measurements, and waist measurements without trouble, then
started on the leg measurements, avoiding the more awkward
       measurements until the end.
"Well, this one is going to be awkward, as are the next three. I
need to measure the height of your... um.. stance, from the
floor to... crotch. And then the inside of both your legs from
the same place to your ankles. Can you hold the top part of the
measuring tape for me please?" She felt the heat rising to her
       face.
It's never been this awkward for me to take measurements
before... maybe because I knew my clients better and there
       weren't many males...
"Also, I may have come up with an idea on how to test your
claws' silk-tearing strength." she said, once the measurements
had been recorded. She bounced over to her box of scrap silk.
"Here. this is similar to what I'll be using, at least for your
suit, so see how easily it tears, and I'll figure out how to fix
       it or make it thicker."

measurements, and waist measurements without trouble, then
started on the leg measurements, avoiding the more awkward
       measurements until the end.
"Well, this one is going to be awkward, as are the next three. I
need to measure the height of your... um.. stance, from the
floor to... crotch. And then the inside of both your legs from
the same place to your ankles. Can you hold the top part of the
measuring tape for me please?" Verochka's face flushed red.
Jasper was sure his own face was redder than the character's
from the anime's he watched. And that was saying something
       considerable.
"H-h-uh? Oh, well of course...." Jasper also knew how awkward he
was, and it didn't usually cause too many problems. Other than
the main problem that he felt completely awkward in the first
place. For which he still had found absolutely no cure.
"Also, I may have come up with an idea on how to test your
claws' silk-tearing strength." Verochka seemed to reclaim her
previously calm-ish attitude as she recorded the measurements
       and moved on quickly.
"Here. this is similar to what I'll be using, at least for your
suit, so see how easily it tears, and I'll figure out how to fix
it or make it thicker." Jasper took the piece of silk, smiling
slightly at the wonderful feeling beneath his long fingers. Then
his claws reached the material. It ripped quickly down the
middle. "Well snap." His claws were just too sharp. And not very
       helpful.
After the silk thing, Jasper smiled at Verochka. "Verochka, I
think I should head home now. I really appreciate the
suit-making. And, how do you want to figure out the details of
       Suzanne's dress?"
"Well, Goodbye." Jasper smiled broadly, walked to the door, and
headed home in a remarkably good mood. Even for Jasper, and an
especially good mood considering the awkwardness of earlier.
'Note to self. Verochka Mandasky is nice. And pretty. One more
person to add to the suddenly-growing list of people I have
       met.'
       Jasper has left Vera's apartment.

"Here. this is similar to what I'll be using, at least for your
suit, so see how easily it tears, and I'll figure out how to fix
it or make it thicker." She held out the scrap, hoping his claws
       weren't too sharp.
Jasper took the piece of silk. His claws reached the scrap, and
it ripped quickly down the middle. Vera's mood soured a little
bit, but she didn't let it show. There was no point, and it
wouldn't help her get her job done anyway.
"Well snap." Jasper smiled nonetheless. "Verochka, I think I
should head home now. I really appreciate the suit-making. And,
how do you want to figure out the details of Suzanne's dress?"
"Well, here, take my email, and have your mom figure out your
sister's measurements and send them to me. I'm sure your mom can
manage that. When I have them, I can go from there." She walked
over to the door and opened it, thinking that Jasper would
probably want to leave pretty soon. "Goodbye, Jasper! It was
       nice to meet you."
       "Well, Goodbye."
He left, clearly in a good mood. Verochka smiled; now she had a
separate dress commission, AND she'd maybe made another friend
here, who didn't only see her for her political use.
Her goals were getting closer every day. She smiled, cleaning up
a bit and then going into the kitchen for a brief snack, waiting
for the next knock on her door....
       End of Vera/Jasper interaction
