       Measurements at Verochka's
By: MissM Date: May 21, 2013, 2:05 pm
       ---------------------------------------------------------
SHORT. (1-2 posts per character each)
OOC: May actually happen elsewhere (perhaps Jessica's get taken
from her show that Verochka crashes?) BUT I would like to
collect the interactions here (in the order they happen) so I
have something to go off of when Vera finally starts making her
dresses. Besides which, I think that Verochka should actually
meet each of the students she's actually making something for
(see list in General discussion+reason). We can do these outside
the RPG as e-mails to Vera's email. Anybody up for #1? BIC
Vera has a small apartment, much like a smaller version of
Ted/Lily/Marshall's at the beginning of How I Met Your Mother.
Only one bedroom, one bathroom, and the living room is somewhat
smaller, and the kitchen is half the size. The majority of the
space is the living room, in which she has a few boxes labelled
in Russian and German. The contents of the box is her unused
silk from the past few months, for the number of dresses she
wants to make. (She hopes she has enough, although because she
adds to her storage every night she's not too worried.)
She also has a dress stand thing that you see in the window of
dress shops. Usually she keeps this hidden, but since she's
doing dresses, she's pulled it out and put it in the middle of
the room so she can eyeball measurements easier.

/>Natalie sauntered up to the door and gave it an energetic knoc
       k
to the tune of the Black Sabbath song stuck in her head, then
stepped a ways back and removed her large sunglasses. She really
didn't now this Vero-whatever chick that well, but hey, if
things involved pretty dresses and outfits and fun with friends,
she was up for 'fittings' with the new kid. Natalie had noticed
that the kids that went to the Academy seemed to be closer than
kids at other schools. In her own mind, she imagined they were
one big family. Maybe not always happy or perfect,
but...still...a family. And if they had a newcomer, even if they
didn't trust them outright, she had seen her friends reach out
to new people and welcome them heartily. It was really cool, in
Natalie's opinion. And she wanted to be in the center of every
welcoming committee, even if she was seen as loud or
overwhelming, she wanted to touch people, and the best way to do
that in her opinion was to put yourself out there.
“Hello there!” She sang out when the door was answered.
Switching to a posh British accent, she exaggerated her hand
movements and rolled her eyes, “I'm here for my fittings! How
could you keep me waiting!?” Without further ado, Natalie
slipped into the apartment, instantly taking in the room with a
glance and getting easily distracted by the plethora of fun
items within. “Oooooh!” She skittered over to the dress stand,
draping her arm over it and sending Verochka an arched eyebrow.
She opened up a grin, pointing to her new companion like she was
posing for a photo with a famous celebrity. “Looks like this
beautiful gurl is already prepped and set to go!” But in one
moment she had abandoned the faceless dress stand and moved to
the boxes scattered around the living room space. There were
lots of different letters written on about half of them that
Natalie couldn't recognize. To her eyes, it looked like some
kind of funky old English, but she was sure it wasn't like that
at all. She tilted a box up to inspect it, having no qualms
about putting her hands on other people's things. It was almost
a hobby, at this point. “What language is this? Oh wait, this
looks familiar...” The other boxes looked like they were German
or something, and Natalie tried vaguely to pronounce it under
her breath, but failed it epically. “Weeeeird..how many
languages do you speak, anyways?” She let out an amused laugh,
       but really, she was impressed.

       Verochka Stolich-Königin
It was the day of the fittings that she'd sent to everyone. She
wondered who would show up first. Probably Erin, she seemed
super-excited about them. She'd moved boxes of cards of colored
silk and uncolored silk into the living room to make it easier
for people to choose their favorite color, and the dress model
was in the middle of the room. She was about to open a bottle of
wine for the occasion, but the patterned knock at the door
interrupted her before she could, so she put it back into the
fridge, slipped on her heels, and opened the door. It wasn't
       Erin.
“Hello there!” The girl sang out. “I'm here for my fittings! How
could you keep me waiting!?” Without waiting to be invited in,
the girl slipped by her into the apartment and ran rampant.
“Oooooh!” She skittered over to the dress stand, draping her arm
over it and sending Verochka an arched eyebrow. She opened up a
grin, pointing to her new companion like she was posing for a
photo with a famous celebrity. “Looks like this beautiful girl
is already prepped and set to go!”
Verochka was about to tell her to stop manhandling her dress
model but the next moment, the girl had gone over to her boxes
of stuff and started going through them, looking at the
lettering on the outside, and clearly not understanding Russian.
       She almost giggled.
Better.... or worse. I can't decide...
“What language is this? Oh wait, this looks familiar...” The
boxes she was fiddling with now were German, and she heard
half-assed attempts at pronunciation under the girls' breath and
       actually giggled at that.
“Weeeeird..how many languages do you speak, anyways?” She let
out an amused laugh, but seemed to actually want an answer this
       time.
"Well, I grew up speaking both German and Russian, and English
was my next language, but I'm not sure how you would count the
number of languages I know. Most people tell me three, though.
I've been trying to convince my parents I need to take another
language, though they haven't let me start yet. Now, I do have a
question.... All I can do are dresses, I can't really do
accessories or stage stuff unless it's easy. And knowing Chevy,
and how much he wants to do this... it's not going to be that
easy. So you want to help me out? Please?" She figured if this
girl was so excited about dresses that she was going to show up
first, she deserved a chance to help out. And she was dressed
like she knew how to run everything.
"I like your outfit, by the way. And you're Natalie, right?
       What's your enhancement?"

“Weeeeird..how many languages do you speak, anyways?” She let
out an amused laugh, digging through Verochka's things with no
remorse. She thought the fact that she could speak so many
languages was really cool, and she was kind of jealous.
"Well, I grew up speaking both German and Russian, and English
was my next language, but I'm not sure how you would count the

"Sweet! I can't imagine. I'm struggling with Spanish right
now..." she let out a little snort of laughter.
"Now, I do have a question.... All I can do are dresses, I can't

of accessories back at my studio! It'll be easy once I see some
sketches of the things you want to do, too. As for stage stuff,
I've got a friend in wood-working that can totally hook us up!"
"I like your outfit, by the way. And you're Natalie, right?
       What's your enhancement?"
First, Natalie placed her palms on either cheek, flushing a
little and playing coy, "Awww...thaaaanks...it seems my
reputation has preceded me! I think your outfit is cute, too! As
for my Enhancement.." She snapped out her hand, the wrist
clicking as five silvery knives slipped out of the edges of her
finger. Her black and pink painted fingernail rested atop
easily, with the diamond-like nails peering out from beneath.
The blades reached out about two inches past the edge of her
fingers, glittering in the light. "Basically, Dr. Ramsey
recreated an extra nail-bed beneath my organic one, enabling me
to shank a person if I needed to." She giggled at that, then
added, "I also use them to sharpen my pencils when no one is
       looking."

Verochka smiled, pleased. "Excellent." She turned away, to find
her tape measure, but something else struck her. She needed to
       know the girls' enhancement.
"I like your outfit, by the way. And you're Natalie, right?

First, Natalie placed her palms on either cheek, flushing a

needed to." She giggled at that, then added, "I also use them to
sharpen my pencils when no one is looking."
"Shank? Do you mean like, kill?" Her eyes lit up. Finally, a
useful enhancement... or at least a damage-inflicting one. And
it was well-hidden, too... "And that's really clever of Dr. Hal
to do, hiding the second nail-bed beneath the original one... I
       like it."
She only wished she could share that she, too, had enhancements
in her fingers, but her parents had forbidden it point blank.
Hal knew, yes, but he wouldn't tell anyone on his life either.
She almost pouted at the memory of the miniature fight her
parents had gotten into. For once, her parents were on different
sides of the issue; usually her father was all for telling and
her mother wasn't, but this time her father didn't want people
knowing at all, even if it was a school for Enhanced children.
He didn't want her to be put in any more danger than he thought
she was in; people knowing about her silk enhancement was one
thing, but knowing that she could also kill if she felt like it
was, apparently, another. And he didn't want her to be used as a
       weapon.
She grabbed her measuring tape and turned back to Natalie, one
       last question crossing her mind.
"Is your enhancement based off an animal or did Hal just go,
"Let's give you claws like a cat"? Or did you get to choose your
       own?"

"Shank? Do you mean like, kill?" Verochka seemed suddenly quite
interested, and Natalie stopped making the slight stabbing
gesture toward the empty air to look up at Verochka, a little
embarrassed. Sometimes, her background really shone through,
       didn't it?
Nice going, genius. Natalie gave a little shrug, "Well, you
know..shank, like, if someone makes their own knife or something
out of a random object and...you know..shanks you." She made
another jab in the air as if sending her claws through some
       unseen person's belly.
"And that's really clever of Dr. Hal to do, hiding the second
nail-bed beneath the original one... I like it."
Natalie shrugged again, a little thrown by Verochka's piqued
interest in her Enhancement. It was almost like she was too
interested, in Natalie's opinion. But instead of narrowing her
eyes in suspicion, Natalie gave a perky smile and added, "It
helps me slice apples and all sorts of fun things."
Verochka pulled out a measuring tape, then paused. "Is your
enhancement based off an animal or did Hal just go, "Let's give
you claws like a cat"? Or did you get to choose your own?"
To this, Natalie gave a curled smirk, her lips pursed together
like a cat and her head tilted to the side. "Hm? Well, not
exactly. My situation didn't allow me for much in the way of
choices...it was Dr. Ramsey's idea, to be honest." Natalie
blinked. "It's weird to hear someone to call him 'Hal'... I
think I've only ever heard Yukito call him that."
"What about you, V?" she asked brightly, standing up and
straightening out so that measurements could be made, "I mean, I
know you had some kind of accident with perogis, but that
doesn't automatically make me think, 'Oh, we should let her
become a human spider!', you know?"

"Shank? Do you mean like, kill?" Her interest rose at that, and
Natalie stopped making the slight stabbing gesture toward the
empty air to look up at Verochka. She knew that most people
didn't carry weapons around normally, but Natalie sounded like
she knew how to use hers quite well in self-defense.
Natalie gave a little shrug, "Well, you know..shank, like, if

       Verochka smiled.
"I call that a shiv... I've got one of those stored in the spine
of...." she paused, realizing she didn't really want to share
that she carried her diary with her at all times, "of one of my
books." she continued. She grimaced, wishing she hadn't
       mentioned it.
"And that's really clever of Dr. Hal to do, hiding the second
nail-bed beneath the original one... I like it."
Natalie shrugged again, but gave a perky smile and added, "It
helps me slice apples and all sorts of fun things."
"My parents taught me how to fight with small knives when I was
like, 13, and the lessons only ended when I tripped during
lessons and cut my forehead." She rubbed the scar above her left
eyebrow, remembering her parents freaking out and wondering why
they were so worried about such a small cut. "But I still carry
around a few sharpened items just in case. Old habits die hard.
       Especially when encouraged by parents."
She pulled out her measuring tape, then paused one last time, a
random thought occurring to her. "Is your enhancement based off
an animal or did Hal just go, "Let's give you claws like a cat"?
Or did you get to choose your own?"
To this, Natalie gave a curled smirk, her lips pursed together
like a cat and her head tilted to the side. "Hm? Well, not
exactly. My situation didn't allow me for much in the way of

blinked. "It's weird to hear someone to call him 'Hal'... I
think I've only ever heard Yukito call him that."
"Oh, damn. Sorry, it's a bad habit I started a while ago, I
usually reserve calling people by their last names for the
people I hate." The people here are so weird... or maybe it's
me... I guess I'll have to change a little bit... She sighed,
walking closer to Natalie to start taking measurements.
"What about you, V?" she asked brightly, standing up and
straightening out as Vera walked around her with her tape
measure, "I mean, I know you had some kind of accident with
perogis, but that doesn't automatically make me think, 'Oh, we
should let her become a human spider!', you know?"
"Well..." She had to think about this for a second, to try and
make it believable. There was always the double-fake where she
told the truth but made it sound like she didn't believe it, but
that was probably a last resort. "Basically, I ate a couple of
really, really bad pirogies. I got such a bad case of food
poisoning that I might have died, according to the doctors. For
the most part I just couldn't keep anything solid down for a few
weeks, and water wasn't much better. At the end of it, I came
out fine, but my parents were so upset that when I asked if I
could be a spider they basically said, "No fangs. But yes." and
gave me a few different options to try. I settled on silk
spinnerets--I mean, I was five, and that was the coolest thing I
could think of then. The surgeries for that were only about a
week long, total. I was out by the time my fingers had healed. I
don't remember anything else, I'm sure there are details my
parents haven't told me. Because it doesn't make sense, no. But
I was 5 so it seemed fine to me, and my parents haven't told me
anything else about it since." Technically her last sentence
WASN'T a lie--there had been nothing else TO tell, as she'd sat
in on the trial of the woman responsible for her poisoning. And
Sebastian had been the one to fill in the rest of the gaps. But
she still hated lying to people. It had been one of her main
arguments against pursuing a career in politics.
"But that was a while ago, you know? I'm just happy I've got
something constructive, that I can use, at this point." She
shrugged. "And who knew that I'd end up here, doing dresses for
       a whole show?"

"It's weird to hear someone to call him 'Hal'... I think I've

       "Oh, d***. Sorry, it's a bad habit I started a while ago, I
usually reserve calling people by their last names for the
people I hate." Verochka let out a sigh, moving closer to begin
       the measurements.
"So, is that like, a thing in the country you're from?" Natalie
was genuinely curious now, her tone casually but a powerful
streak of interest piqued. She held out her arms so that
Verochka could measure accurately. "What about you, V? I mean, I
know you had some kind of accident with perogis, but that
doesn't automatically make me think, 'Oh, we should let her
become a human spider!', you know?"
"Well..." Verochka paused, considering. "Basically, I ate a
couple of really, really bad pirogies. I got such a bad case of
food poisoning that I might have died, according to the doctors.
For the most part I just couldn't keep anything solid down for a

I was 5 so it seemed fine to me, and my parents haven't told me
       anything else about it since."
Natalie had her head tilted to the side like a curious puppy as
she listened to Verochka's story. It seemed really strange to
her that her parents just happily volunteered to have her turned
into a human spider after a case of food poisoning. Even if it
was really all that severe, it seemed weird to think that
becoming a spider was the solution...how did that even work,
anyways? Spinning thread didn't exactly keep you from vomiting
your guts out. But hey, who was she to judge? It wasn't like she
came from a 'normal, happy family' herself, either. Although
looking around at Verochka's living situation, Natalie presumed
that their upbringings couldn't have been more different.
Natalie's first home hadn't even had a toilet. But the past was
the past, and she smiled with interest at Verochka's story.
"But that was a while ago, you know? I'm just happy I've got
something constructive, that I can use, at this point." She
shrugged. "And who knew that I'd end up here, doing dresses for
       a whole show?"
"Mm!" Natalie hummed in agreement, "And I'm so excited to see
how they turn out! Chevy will be so happy, I'm sure of it!" She
straightened up again, dropping her arms to her sides. "We
done?" She held up two thumbs, shaking them back and forth
alternately, her expression hopeful for a yes.
"Awesome, I'm out of here! Later, V!" She waved wildly as she
raced out the door, pulling out her cell phone from her pocket.
She was sure she could help make this an amazing event for
Phoenix, and nothing was going to get in her way.
       Natalie is finished here!~

       Verochka S-K
"So, is that like, a thing in the country you're from?"
Verochka laughed. "Not that I know of, it's just me."
Natalie held out her arms. "What about you, V? I mean, I know
you had some kind of accident with perogis, but that doesn't
automatically make me think, 'Oh, we should let her become a
       human spider!', you know?"
As Vera told Natalie her story, she left out the important bits
that would go against every promise her parents had made her
make before coming to the school. It really rankled that she
couldn't tell anyone about her other 'enhancements'.
Natalie had her head tilted to the side like a curious puppy as
she listened to Verochka's story, and Verochka knew she would
have to be careful about what she told anyone else. Natalie had
a vibe about her that screamed 'will kick your ass if need be',
and lying would probably be one of the things that would suffice
as a reason. But she was smiling, so Vera chose to ignore most
of her worries. At least for the time being.
"We
done?" She held up two thumbs, shaking them back and forth
       alternately, her expression hopeful.
"Yep! Thanks, Natalie! I look forward to the show. Thanks for
the help, too." She meant it. Even with the number of people in
the show, she'd have been dead walking by the end and it
wouldn't be pleasant for anybody. "Have a good day." She smiled,
all of a sudden realizing that even with help, she'd be pretty
       stressed out.
"Awesome, I'm out of here! Later, V!" She waved wildly as she
raced out the door, pulling her cell phone from her pocket.
Vera smiled, and tucked Natalie's measurements away and pulled
out a fresh page as the door closed behind Natalie. She took a
brief moment to herself, grabbing a quick snack and re-arranging
the space. She didn't really need the dress-stand out yet, and
some of the boxes were in the way of the bathroom, so she moved
a few into her room and put the dress-stand in the corner of the
living room, opening up the space a little more for the next
visitor, still unsure who would appear.
A few minutes later, as Verochka was finishing up her snack,
there was a knock on the door. She went over to it and opened it
       up, grinning.
She held out her hand for the newcomer to shake.

       Erin Spenser
So, Verochka-- whose name Erin wasn't sure she could say right--
was designing dresses. And she needed Erin to come get measured.
It was kind of cool, the idea of it... it sort of gave Erin a
little glimpse as to what it might be like to be a celebrity.
Not that she'd never want to be the kind that went down on the
red carpet or something, but she knew that if her band really
did break out into the big music scene, there would be pictures
and people caring about what she wore. And she could use that
opportunity to show everyone, "Hey, it doesn't matter if what
you wear is considered in vogue or not as long as you feel
       beautiful in it!"
Yeah, that would be cool to do....
She approached Verochka's door and gave it a knock, almost
surprised at how fast it opened. She'd obviously been waiting
for her, or at least someone, to come over. Erin smiled.
Clearly, this chick was excited about some fashion. She took the
hand Verochka offered, though Erin couldn't remember the last
time she shook the hand of another student. "I'm Erin, in case
you couldn't recognize me from my pictures and stuff," she said,
       giving a laugh. I mean, it's not like the school's huge... she's
had to have seen me before, right?
"So," she said, coming inside, "How do we do this thing? You
measure me, I feel all stylish, magic happens, and then I get to
pretend I'm super stylish in real-life?" Erin sent her a grin,
pretending to fix her hair very posh-like.
