Erin Spenser
"So... what did you tell your parents you were doing today?"
Reese asked, letting her take a minute to breathe and recover
from his sudden onslaught of tickling.
"I told them I was spending the day with you!" she replied
brightly, bumping him a bit with her shoulder playfully. "Why,
what'd you think I'd say? That I was going to break into a
warehouse and offer a sacrifice to the dark lord in there?" She
giggled at her own joke, reaching across him for one of the
sodas. Reese just rolled his eyes. "What did you tell your mom,
then?"
"I said, 'Hey mom!' and she said, 'Wha-at? I'm busy!'" He told
the story so in-character and everything that she couldn't help
but start laughing. "'I'm going out on a date with Erin
Spenser!' and she was like, 'What? Really? She's so cute!' And I
was like, 'Of course'. And my dad looked up from his computer
and gave me this nod like, 'Awww..yeaaah..'."
Erin's laughter escalated at that one. "Did your dad suddenly
become the Kool-Aide guy? Bustin' down yo' walls all like,
'Awwww, yeaaaah....'"
"And you know how Daniel reacted. Haha..."
"Aww.. I didn't realize all of y'all thought so highly of me!"
Erin said, sitting up straighter and trying to put on a regal
look. She put on a fake haughty accent: "Oh, it's just me, your
little local celebrity among the Middleton clan, halloo..." She
waved her hand in an exaggerated gesture, like she was waving to
a crowd at a parade, Princess Diaries style. "Thank you for
being here today..." Her attention drifted to the park itself,
looking especially glowing and pastel in the fading light. The
trees were silhouetted against the pink and purple sky, and the
contrast between everything was so much brighter during this
time. The air felt cool against her face, and there was just
enough breeze to make the fringes of her hair tickle her face.
"Hey, Reese," Erin said after a moment, "What do you think it's
going to be like when we're all adults with Enhancements?
Like... how do you think that'll change things? Like there's
things you could do that no one else could do before. It could
change things... make them a little better, you know? Do you
ever think about things like that? I mean, I don't think my
Enhancement will change music all that much, and you can't
change the world through swimming real good..." She laughed a
bit at the absurdity of the idea.

Reese Middleton
"Aww.. I didn't realize all of y'all thought so highly of me!"
Erin said, sitting up straighter and pulling on a very posh,
snobbish attitude. "Oh, it's just me, your little local
celebrity among the Middleton clan, halloo..." She gave a
dramatic hand wave, mimicking Princess Diaries. "Thank you for
being here today..." Reese laughed, shaking his head at her
antics. She had a good sense of humor, which he liked. It was
very hard to keep Erin's mood down for long. Inevitably, like a
buoy, it bobbed back to the surface again, and she was sparkling
and cheerful.
"It's definitely just like that, every day," he teased back, and
then they fell into a quiet moment, finish
"Hey, Reese," Erin said after a moment, "What do you think it's
going to be like when we're all adults with Enhancements?
Like... how do you think that'll change things? Like there's

ever think about things like that? I mean, I don't think my
Enhancement will change music all that much, and you can't
change the world through swimming real good..." She laughed a
bit at it, but he considered it thoughtfully.
"I think that, just like always, the world is constantly
changing. I mean, not too long ago, cell phones were this
awesome, shiny new thing. And they were this big," he indicated
with his hands the size of one of the first portable phones,
half the size of a shoebox. "And they thought, 'well how could
this be useful?'. But now we're inseparable from our phones and
tablets and things. So maybe that's how the Enhancements will
be. Everyone will think of them as just a part of life, a
necessity. So maybe...we won't change the world in a big way,
like Superman or something, but in a small way. Like the cell
phone."
He stopped for a moment, then laughed, "Wow, that got deep
really fast. But anyways, I'm glad to be in the 'cool kid' wave
with you and the others." He let out a sigh, then turned to her
and said, "Are you about ready to head back? It's starting to
get dark already..."

made it just sound silly. Erin tried to laugh it off like it was
just a joke, but Reese looked like he was really thinking about
it, like it was a legitimate question.
"I think that, just like always, the world is constantly
changing. I mean, not too long ago, cell phones were this
awesome, shiny new thing. And they were this big," He held up
his hands to show the size, making Erin burst into laughs at the
thought. People were so impressed by that? "And they thought,

"Hmm..." She pursed her lips, considering for a quick moment
before deciding, "I'd rather be Superman than a cell phone."
It was Reese's turn to give a laugh. "Wow, that got deep really
fast. But anyways, I'm glad to be in the 'cool kid' wave with
you and the others."
"Shut up," she joked, giving him another playful shove. "You've
always been one of the cool kids."
He let out a sigh, then turned to her and said, "Are you about
ready to head back? It's starting to get dark already..."
Erin looked around, realizing for the first time just how much
the light had faded. She made a face, whining a bit, "Really?
Already? Awww.... " Erin groaned, as if it weer a huge deal. But
she'd been enjoying her time with Reese, and it really was a
bummer that she'd have to be home so soon. "You're riiight... "
She sighed, standing up from the bench, starting to help clean
up the leftovers from the spread of food the Middletons had sent
with Reese. "Hey, are there any more of those sandwiches left?"
she asked Reese. "They were so good!"
When everything was cleared up and packed away again, Erin sent
Reese a smile. "This was so much fun Reese," she gushed, before
giving him another hug. "Thank you! Now walk me home," she
added, pretending it was an order and working to make her face
very stern. "Not like you have a choice," she added with a
laugh, then took his hand in hers. "But seriously, Reese, you
really are such a super friend. I don't know what I'd do without
you sometimes! Probably get lost on the way home," she tacked
on, joking. "Okay, let's go!"
Erin's done here!

Jasper Evans
A light breeze swished past Jasper as he gazed around the park.
It was a rather quiet day for him so he'd decided to go for a
walk and ended up here. He had sat on a park bench and watched
people walk by, thinking about things.
People walked past, some talked with friends through various
phones or such, some talked with people near them, others walked
dogs, a few even waved at him because they noticed his gaze.
'Everything's so quiet, and cool. Sitting here one could almost
forget their troubles for the fanciful world of fairies and
nonsense. But the wind has just enough bite to it to keep you
from leaving.....
To other people it might seem boring to sit there for long
periods of time, doing nothing. Saying nothing. Feeling nothing
but the wind. But it seemed odd and peaceful, the quiet spoke
more loudly to Jasper than anything. Noticing things and
worrying about them was what Jasper did most, but once in awhile
it was nice to not worry about anything.
Jasper looked around and sighed. It was so nice out, he smiled.
He felt like it was a good day, albeit slightly boring thus far.

Erin Spenser
Today, Erin was supposed to meet with the other band members,
but it wasn't until the evening. She didn't have any thing much
to do until then, and she didn't want to stay home at all. So
she showed up at their meeting place early. It wasn't too weird
or boring or anything, because Erin had learned that if she
brought a guitar and her voice, she could draw her own crowd and
have a mini-concert on her own. It was pretty much the best way
to waste an hour or two, if she had to be on her own.
She sat down on one of the park benches and pulled her guitar
out of its case. After tuning it, Erin began to strum out a
song, getting into the rhythm for a few minutes before actually
singing. But when she did, it was strong, and loud, and sure, as
the song absorbed all her thoughts.
The song was an old one, really old. But it was a good kind of
old, a classic, and sounded awesome on acoustic guitar. She had
to sing it in a higher key, though, because the original was
pretty low. "Wanted Dead or Alive", thankfully, still sounded
good even in her girl's voice, and the higher key. It was a fun
experimenting song, too, especially for belting.

Jasper Evans
As Jasper sat quietly on his bench, soaking in the nice day, he
noticed a girl sitting down not too far from himself. She had
very pretty brown hair, and a round, happy face. Jasper couldn't
really tell, because she was a little ways away, but he thought
her eyes were brown.
She looked familiar, and, at any rate, very cheerful. She had
a guitar with her and when she sat down she brought it out to
begin playing.
Jasper watched her casually for a moment, leaning back on his
bench. She tuned her guitar and played a rhythm for awhile, she
had clearly been playing for awhile and knew what she was doing.
Becoming very self-conscious when he realized he'd been staring,
Jasper quickly turned away and looked at his feet.
'Do I know this song? It sounds very familiar...'
About then is when she started singing, her voice was
beautiful. Her voice rang clearly and confidently through the
relatively quiet park. Jasper kicked his feet a little and
looked back over at the girl. She seemed absorbed completely in
the song, as though she sang with her whole soul and not simply
her voice.
Humming along quietly, Jasper tapped the rhythm on the bench
with his claw on the bench. A moment later he placed his hands
carefully in his pockets sat awkwardly for a moment.
'I do know this song, she sings it differently is all. It
sounds nice though, she has a lovely voice...'
Jasper looked back again in the girl's direction and smiled.
He supposed he had seen her around school, that was the most
likely option when someone around his age looked familiar here.
Most children their age did have Enhancements- or were going to
get them.
