Dr Ramsey's Office

---------------------------------------------------------
The founder of Atticus Academy, Dr Hal Ramsey, is very involved
with his students.
This is mostly because they are also, upon attending the
Academy, also his patients, and in his almost complete legal
custody as far as medical concerns go.
Having founded this school a few years ago, Dr Ramsey is not shy
about having the position of majority shareholder, despite
having such a small school. Using the low number of students to
his advantage, Hal has a hand in almost every student affair
that takes place -- and if he doesn't, he's overseen every step
of its preparation and is reported to about it on a daily basis.
Aside from seeing at least a few students every day, Hal spends
much of his daily time in his office sorting through medical
papers concerning Enhancements and arranging the multitude of
reports he requires from every teacher on every student.
The smooth wooden door clearly reads "DR. HAL RAMSEY".

Inside, his office is almost entirely white, aside from two
chairs -- one black office chair for him, and another at a clear
glass table beside his desk -- and his sleek wooden desk. His
desk is in a rather curved shape, with the peak of its curve
facing the door. At one end, there is a glass table and a chair,
which most students know is for filling out paperwork and
answering his questions as he types effortlessly at his
computer. His desk is usually quite clear, unless he is in the
middle of an interview or reviewing some progress test he's
given his students. Behind his desk, to his right when sitting
in his chair, is a large cabinet made of rippled glass and
bright silver metal, and contains many barely visible white
binders full of information. All of these, though it is not
visible from their spines, have combination locks on them that
only Hal knows the numbers to, and he keeps them closed unless
he absolutely needs something out of them -- as he knows well
that there is information inside that he cannot afford to let
spill into the school.
He will often call students into his office on informal and
formal matters, and sometimes the door is propped open, just
slightly to encourage students inside. Other times, the door is
locked, and there is no hope of drawing him out unless a matter
is dire. He has no private secretary -- though there is one to
answer general calls concerning the school -- , only a phone on
his desk that only he can answer.
Though he is rather stiff and distant in general, if there is
one thing that Hal purposefully presses during every interview
with his students, it's that he is, first and foremost,
concerned with their well-being, and any threat is absolutely
his business -- no matter what it may be -- and he will often
discuss many private matters concerning this within the
sound-proofed, windowless walls of his office.

Serina Todd
Serina wandered down the emptying halls of the academy.
It was the end of the school day, and Serina's high-heeled shoes
clicked against the tile flooring on a fast-becoming-well-known
path to Doctor Hal Ramsey's office. She'd been to Hal's office
several times; she had conveniently managed to find excuses to
come and see the handsome doctor.
Serina came to the door of his office and smiled. The door was
just cracked open, and Hal was inside at his desk. She knew how
obvious her "crushes" could appear. But, at this point, it
didn't bother her all that much.
She pushed the door open a bit farther. "Good afternoon, Doctor
Raaamseeey~!" she sang, smiling at him happily. "How are you
today? I had a general question about the final exams." Serina
waltzed over towards his desk as she spoke. "What goes on
exactly at these exams? I've heard rumors, but I wanted to know
exactly."
Her excuse was a mixture of real curiosity and wanting to bother
Doctor Ramsey. Again.

Dr. Hal Ramsey
Everything had been stressful since returning from New York.
He'd been doing everything he could to try and keep himself out
of Yukito's affairs... to not be all the things that Erin had
accused him of... to help Yukito be happy by being less of an
influence...
It only seemed to serve to make Yukito suspicious of him.
Sitting at his desk, Hal tried to organize some plans for the
beginnings of Daniel Middleton's Enhancement. Sighing, he stared
down at the papers, thinking. He wasn't sure what he was doing
wrong here. None of the projections for this Enhancement were
working, and he couldn't risk the implant with the current state
of the technology... Folding his hands in front of him, Hal
balanced his chin on the back of his hands, closing his eyes
slowly.
'Relax. Don't let the stress at home interfere with work. This
is a different work. Don't let it get in. Don't...'
"Good afternoon, Doctor Raaamseeey~!" a cheerful girl's voice
rang.
Hal opened his eyes, turning his head mechanically towards the
door. "Miss Todd," he sighed, with a pasted smile. "Good
afternoon."
'Again.'
He could swear that this girl was one of the most
high-maintenance transfers he'd ever dealt with. She'd been
there since the beginning of the semester, but she always found
new things to ask questions about. It was as if she knew most of
the students didn't cash in on his offer of 'if you need
anything, come talk to me' so she was making up for the lot of
them. However, he couldn't complain, because he had told her
that. And it was better she not get her information secondhand
if she didn't have to. Still... it was a handful.
She sent him a happy smile, practically dancing into his office.
He just sat there, quirking an eyebrow slightly. "How are you
today? I had a general question about the final exams."
Hal nodded slowly. "I'm alright," he said, his voice betraying
his rather tired state. "This school keeps me busy." Taking in a
deep breath, he paused before continuing. "Any questions you
have about the exams, I will try to answer, but they are
extremely personalized, based upon progression and behavior."
"What goes on exactly at these exams? I've heard rumors, but I
wanted to know exactly."
He peered over at her, then sighed. "Alright... I'll tell you
what I can." Putting on a smile, he gestured towards the chair
at the glass table beside his desk. "Go ahead and sit down, and
I'll give you a basic description of what goes on. But,
understand, I may change it based upon you specifically."

Serina Todd
Dr. Ramsey turned his head to Serina as she entered the office
"Miss Todd," he sighed, with somewhat of a smile. "Good
afternoon."
Dr. Hal didn't seem to enjoy her periodic visits as much as
Serina did, but honestly, she hardly minded that at all. She
just supposed that he'd get used to her eventually and continued
to come. It seemed to be half-working and that was good enough
for Serina.
'If you think that being a little cold to me will get rid of me
Doctor, you are sadly mistaken. Until such time as you force me
to stay away, I will not go away. I hope you realize that.'
Serina wondered if he did think that she would eventually go
away. It might happen, but it was so incredibly unlikely Serina
didn't worry. She smiled joyfully at the Doctor. Doctor Hal
raised an eyebrow as she almost skipped into his office, but she
comfortably refrained from any literal skipping. "How are you
today? I had a general question about the final exams." She
said.
Hal nodded slowly. "I'm alright," Doctor Hal said, but his own
voice belied him. He quite obviously sounded tired. Which didn't
make Serina all that happy.
"You sound kinda tired though." She mumbled, willing to bet
that he had still heard her.
"This school keeps me busy." Hal took a deep breath and paused
for a moment. Serina looked over at him curiously. "Any
questions you have about the exams, I will try to answer, but
they are extremely personalized, based upon progression and
behavior."
"Well, I'm not super worried about grades." She said, knowing it
made her sound cocky."I'm hopeful I'll pass okay anyways. What
goes on exactly at these exams? I've heard rumors, but I wanted
to know exactly."
'After all, Doctor, not all of the rumors surrounding you are
well-meant, or particularly nice for that matter.'
Hal looked at her and sighed again. Yeah, he was probably
starting to get tired of her from the sighing, or maybe it was
just exhaustion. It was hard to tell. "Alright... I'll tell you
what I can." Hal smiled and gestured to the chair beside the
glass table that was next to his desk. She happily waltzed over
and sat down comfortably. "Go ahead and sit down, and I'll give
you a basic description of what goes on. But, understand, I may
change it based upon you specifically."
"Works for me." She fairly beamed at the Doctor. Wondering if he
didn't notice or didn't care about how she obviously had a sort
of 'crush' on him. It wasn't like it was that far out for the
incredibly handsome Doctor Hal. But then again, several of the
students seemed to be far from having a spectacular liking of
Hal. But that was yet another thing Serina could pass by and
deal with easily.

Dr. Hal Ramsey
"This school keeps me busy." He took a deep breath, a lot of
things in the back of his mind threatening to leak into their
conversation. Not that he would allow it. He had to focus on the
task at hand.
"Any questions you have about the exams, I will try to answer,
but they are extremely personalized, based upon progression and
behavior."
"Well, I'm not super worried about grades." He raised an
eyebrow. She sounded quite confident. "I'm hopeful I'll pass
okay anyways. What goes on exactly at these exams? I've heard
rumors, but I wanted to know exactly."
Hal looked at her and sighed again. She was persistent, wasn't
she? He supposed that talking was the only thing to satiate her
curiosity. "Alright... I'll tell you what I can." He put on a
smile and gestured towards the chair at the glass table beside
his desk. "Go ahead and sit down, and I'll give you a basic
description of what goes on. But, understand, I may change it
based upon you specifically." She smoothly moved over, seating
herself with some degree of comfort that most students that came
to his office did not possess.
"Works for me," she said with a bright smile.
Leaning against the table with his elbows, Hal folded his hands
underneath his chin as he looked at her. "The basics of the
finals are much like the initial examination. This, you are
familiar with," he began, pulling a file from his desk and
laying it out, pointing to a few blank papers. "There is also a
written form that is connected with your classes, both a review
of your teacher and to provide the school with a general idea of
what you have learned from your classes. So we know, in the
future, what effectively stayed with the students, as well as
using it as a guide of your personal learning style for the more
student-centric classes, which are our main goals."
He shifted some of the papers, glancing up at her for a moment
before continuing. "Now, here is the issue with explaining it
further... the majority of the final examinations, as they are
quite long, is based upon personal progress." Hal leaned back in
his chair tiredly, gripping the arms just a bit. "Some students
are terrible with personal questions. Some are absolutely
atrocious when it comes to a written summary of their progress.
And it would be quite ridiculous to just have everyone write a
paper about what they feel they have accomplished here." He put
on a slight smile. "So, shall we say that I tend to be best
equipped when I gather information on them when they are most
comfortable? Take Miss Erin Spencer, for example." Glancing
towards the door, his smile disappeared, then he looked back
towards Serina. "She is an extremely bright student, yet lacks
much motivation to put effort into her classes. However, she
remains at this school on a rather good academic level. Why?
Because we can see past her clouded dreams for her future and
see that her learning style is curbed around her love for music,
the relationships this builds. This is vital."
Hal hesitated here. "There's also the case of my son, Yukito."
He met her eyes, his expression softening a bit, his voice
becoming a bit less mechanical. "I'm sure you've seen him
around. He's an extremely bright boy, and rather complacent when
it comes to abiding by rules or taking tests. However, he is
also extremely withdrawn and..." He smiled slightly. "Shall we
say, shy? He does abhor talking about himself or making any sort
of complaint, which means that his opinion of his own progress
must be gathered in as constructive a way as possible."
Eyeing her, he thought for a moment. "You, I am unsure of so
far. Being so new, there is not enough periodical evidence for
me to analyze your learning style just yet." He tilted his head
slightly. "Do keep in mind, this is still a rather young school,
with a quite new system. We are constantly working to improve,
so... let's just say that conditions do vary." Putting on a
plastic smile, he straightened. "The first final examination is
always a rather uncomfortable experience, so it has the least
effect on your education. It is more to educate you on yourself
than to educate me on you, if that does make any sense."
'Tell me I have bored you to tears. Tell me you have heard
enough. Tell me I answered your questions.'
'Tell me you're ready to leave now.'

Serina Todd
"Any questions you have about the exams, I will try to answer,
but they are extremely personalized, based upon progression and
behavior." Hal said.
"Well, I'm not super worried about grades." He raised an
eyebrow. Snap. That sounded obnoxious. "I'm hopeful I'll pass
okay anyways. What goes on exactly at these exams? I've heard
rumors, but I wanted to know exactly." Serina finished lamely.
Hal looked at her and sighed again. He seemed to get tired of
her fast. Or was he just generally tired? That must be
it."Alright... I'll tell you what I can." He smiled and gestured
towards the chair at the glass table beside his desk. "Go ahead
and sit down, and I'll give you a basic description of what goes
on. But, understand, I may change it based upon you
specifically." Serina coolly stepped over and sat down at the
table.
"Works for me," she said with a bright smile.
Hal leaned against the table with his elbows, folded his hands
underneath his chin and looked at her. "The basics of the finals
are much like the initial examination. This, you are familiar
with," Yeah, it hadn't been so very long since she had gone
through the 'initial examination'. He pulled a file from his
desk and laid it out, gesturing to a few blank papers. "There is
also a written form that is connected with your classes, both a
review of your teacher and to provide the school with a general
idea of what you have learned from your classes. So we know, in
the future, what effectively stayed with the students, as well

before continuing. "Now, here is the issue with explaining it
further... the majority of the final examinations, as they are
quite long, is based upon personal progress." Hal leaned back in
his chair tiredly. Had he even slept at all? He didn't act much
like it. "Some students are terrible with personal questions.
Some are absolutely atrocious when it comes to a written summary
of their progress. And it would be quite ridiculous to just
have everyone write a paper about what they feel they have
accomplished here." He put on a slight smile. "So, shall we say
that I tend to be best equipped when I gather information on
them when they are most comfortable? Take Miss Erin Spencer, for
example." Glancing towards the door, he seemed to think there
was a possibility of Miss Erin being there then. Pretty much
everyone else is gone. "She is an extremely bright student, yet
lacks much motivation to put effort into her classes. However,
she remains at this school on a rather good academic level. Why?
Because we can see past her clouded dreams for her future and
see that her learning style is curbed around her love for music,
the relationships this builds. This is vital."
Hal hesitated here. "There's also the case of my son, Yukito."
Hal's voice and face softened. Serina smiled slightly at him.
"I'm sure you've seen him around. He's an extremely bright boy,
and rather complacent when it comes to abiding by rules or
taking tests. However, he is also extremely withdrawn and..." He
smiled slightly. "Shall we say, shy? He does abhor talking about
himself or making any sort of complaint, which means that his
opinion of his own progress must be gathered in as constructive
a way as possible."
Hm.
Hal looked at her and said. "You, I am unsure of so far. Being
so new, there is not enough periodical evidence for me to
analyze your learning style just yet." He tilted his head
slightly. "Do keep in mind, this is still a rather young school,
with a quite new system. We are constantly working to improve,
so... let's just say that conditions do vary." Indeed. "The
first final examination is always a rather uncomfortable
experience, so it has the least effect on your education. It is
more to educate you on yourself than to educate me on you, if
that does make any sense."
He'd answered her question and Serina knew full well she had no
real reason to linger. “Thank you, Doctor Ramsey.”
She said, standing up. “Well, I should probably leave. Be
seeing you.” She waved her hand lightly in a half-wave.
Yeah, she'd probably be back sometime soon.
Serina has left Doctor Ramsey's office.
