Room 672 - Yukito Ramsey/Baxter Dawsom
DIR By: Mascii
Date: April 14, 2013, 4:43 pm
---------------------------------------------------------
The doctor was almost seven feet tall, black, and so broad in
the shoulders he was the width of two Yukito's. Despite his
intimidating appearance, he was kind and talkative the entire
way up the elevator to the sixth floor. He had a thick, throaty
laugh that seemed to resonate not only all the way through his
body, but also throughout the entire hallway as he walked them
to a classroom door. "Make yourself right at home, boys. It's
going to be a long hour, I'm afraid." He sent them a warm smile,
his teeth a brilliant white. "Would you consider yourselves
lucky that you two ended up without a female partner? Maybe?
Maybe not?" Another deep laugh, and he handed them a clipboard,
pointing out the lines as he explained, "You just sign your own
name here, and your partner's name here, and fill out the
questions according to your partner's answers. At the end,
there's a little space to put your own impression of your
partner, and such like that."
He stood up, placing his hands on his hips and watching the two
boys for a moment, an interested gleam in his eyes. "You two
know each other? Seems like you do, is all. Ain't none of my
business, but whatever. Alright, if you have any questions or
need anything - blood flowing, people on fire, that kind of
thing - then you can just bang on that door, and I'll be right
in, got it? I'll let you know when one hour is up, and then
you're free. Or at least, from me." He chuckled, then gave them
a wave of his hand, broad and thick, and closed the door,
locking it.
~~
The classroom is very boring, and it feels like time itself
stops once you enter the door. It's a bit stuffy, but it's
well-lit, and fairly clean. A blackboard against the wall behind
the teacher's desk still seems to let off a thick dust of chalk
from past days. The chairs are plain, lightweight, and wooden
and green. The chairs are easy to move around, but the desks,
since they haven't moved much in over a decade, are more
difficult to manage. There is little in the room other than
that, and there is one exit.
Each character takes turns posting, and the characters' goal is
to finish the questionnaire in the hour they are left in the
room together. Your character cannot leave, without explicit
permission. I will let you know when about an hour has passed in
character-time, so don't worry. Cause drama, dig deeply into
each other's character, and have fun!
Here are the first five questions on the questionnaire:
1. Describe yourself in five words.
2. How has your Enhancement changed the way you see yourself and
others?
3. What do you dream about most often?
4. What’s the craziest thing you’ve ever done?
5. What are 5 things you want more of right now? (Could be
physical things, characteristics, ideas, anything.)
NOTE: NPC comments and such will be added by me (message if
otherwise needed). My NPC will come in and inform the students
when their time is up.

It had been an odd weekend, and it was turning out to be an odd
week, as well. It had been the last class of the day, English,
and suddenly they had been interrupted by a series of doctors
coming in and calling a list of names. The class was placed into
pairs, and told to wait after class for a special research
project. "Erin Spenser and Reese Middleton...Jasper Evans and
Thomas Hutchinson...Yukito Maki and Baxter Dawsom." Yukito had
moved to stand, and found none other than Chevy, Phoenix's
boyfriend, standing beside him. He wasn't sure whether he should
be concerned, curious, or what.
After a short briefing, it was understood that the children
selected would be taking part in a sort of Enhanced student
survey, and they were the chosen guinea pigs. They were assured
that both the children selected and the pairs they would be in
were completely random. A tall, broad-shouldered black guy came
over and introduced himself to them, but Yukito forgot his name
almost instantly. He almost had to crane his neck to look up
into the man's face, and he felt like he could have been crushed
between two of the man's fingers quite easily. However, he
didn't have an intimidating air, and Yukito followed him down
the hallway, Chevy at his side. For the most part, he avoided
making eye contact with either of them, silent while the doctor
rattled on about random things, stories and encouragement.
"Make yourself right at home, boys. It's going to be a long
hour, I'm afraid." He sent a warm smile back over his shoulder
at them, stepping into one of the classrooms. Yukito instantly
found a seat on the edge, about three rows in, and sat down,
staring ahead with a bored expression. "Would you consider
yourselves lucky that you two ended up without a female partner?
Maybe? Maybe not?" Another deep laugh, and he handed them a
clipboard, pointing out the lines as he explained, "You just
sign your own name here, and your partner's name here, and fill
out the questions according to your partner's answers. At the
end, there's a little space to put your own impression of your
partner, and such like that."
Yukito looked across the clipboard, his interest beginning to
truly peak at last. It wasn't a long questionnaire, but it had a
lot of open-ended questions. He hated being probed like this...
especially by someone he barely knew, and knowing it would be
read by psychiatrists later. "You two know each other?" Yukito's
head lifted toward the man, then he glanced over at Chevy,
saying nothing. "Seems like you do, is all. Ain't none of my
business, but whatever. Alright, if you have any questions or
need anything - blood flowing, people on fire, that kind of
thing - then you can just bang on that door, and I'll be right
in, got it? I'll let you know when one hour is up, and then
you're free. Or at least, from me." He chuckled, then gave them
a wave of his hand, broad and thick, and closed the door,
locking it.
As soon as the door locked, Yukito felt himself let out a sigh.
Of relief, of weariness...of whatever else, he let it out in a
slow exhale, taking the pencil and signing his name at the top.
"It's Baxter Dawsom, right? How do you spell it?" His tone was
neutral, and he worked to keep it that way, already knowing this
was going to be a very, very long hour for him.

Chevy Dawsom
Chevy was just dozing off, his head slumping forward and his
eyes slipping shut, when the door opened and series of doctors
entered the room. They began calling off names, pairing off
students and announcing that they had been selected to take
place in a research project. "Erin Spenser and Reese
Middleton...Jasper Evans and Thomas Hutchinson...Yukito Maki and
Baxter Dawsom." Chevy startled a bit at the sound of his name,
shaking his head a little and moving to stand next to Yukito. He
had a nagging feeling in his stomach that things were about to
get very, very interesting.
There was a short briefing that explained that the project was
an Enhanced Student Survey, but all Chevy got out of it was that
he'd somehow managed to get roped into being a guinea pig. A
tall, broad-shouldered man walked up and introduced himself, but
Chevy was too focused on steady his heart to concentrate on what
was being said. Suddenly they were moving, the two teenagers
following the large man down a hallway before being ushered into
an empty classroom.
"Make yourself right at home, boys. It's going to be a long
hour, I'm afraid." the older man said with a warm smile as he
lead them into the room. Chevy hovered in the doorway for a
second, swallowing nervously and shifting from foot to foot
before taking a seat in the nearest desk. "Would you consider
yourselves lucky that you two ended up without a female partner?
Maybe? Maybe not?" the comment was followed by a rumbling laugh
that made Chevy's insides twist. The man handed the boys a
clipboard and explained what they were to do. The man spoke for
a while longer but Chevy tuned him out, staring blankly at the
clipboard and nodding when he felt appropriate. The locking of
the door brought his attention back to the task at hand.
He heard Yukito sigh before "It's Baxter Dawsom, right? How do
you spell it?"
Chevy twisted in his seat to look over at Yukito, "B-a-x-t-e-r
D-a-w-s-o-m." He looked down at his own clipboard and dropped it
on the desk, before rubbing a hand across his forehead. His
heart was racing and he could feel his constant air of
indifference fading, his emotions slipping through the cracks in
his armor. His palms were sweating under his leather, or at
least he really hoped it was sweat. His throat was dry and
swallowed a few times, wincing at the scratchy feeling. His head
was spinning a little and he already felt like he needed out.
"Y-your last name... it isn't Ramsey?" he heard himself saying.
He blinked hard a few times and swallowed again, bracing himself
for the hour that lie ahead.
Mascii Edit: I just added Chevy's name at the top of the post,
is all. :)

Yukito Ramsey
He let out a sigh, more from general weariness than anything
else, slipping a pair of sunglasses on to avert the glaring
sunshine that poured in from the windows. He was getting to be
indifferent to such things as surveys and brain-pickers, by this
point. "It's Baxter Dawsom, right? How do you spell it?"
Yukito heard Chevy's chair creak noisily, but he didn't look up.
"B-a-x-t-e-r D-a-w-s-o-m." He wrote down the name in his tiny,
neat handwriting. With his right hand, he tapped at the edge of
his desk with one fingernail, a nagging feeling in the back of
his mind like something strange had been said, and that it hung
in the room like an unforeseen cloud of judgement.
"Y-your last name... it isn't Ramsey?" At that, Yukito raised
his head to look at Chevy for the first time since they'd been
led away from the others. He arched an eyebrow, adjusting his
sunglasses. Chevy appeared to be genuinely unsettled by
something, although Yukito had no idea why that could be. They
hadn't even really spoken yet.
"I'm adopted," he said simply, lifting one shoulder in a
nonchalant shrug. One hand reached up to twist his silver
earring, and he leaned one elbow on the desk. "I've been living
with Dr. Ramsey since I was about eleven, but somehow certain
places still use my birth name, instead of my new name." Yukito
would never in a million years admit it aloud, but he preferred
the sound of Maki over Ramsey, and he had even looked up his own
birth name online, only to find out that it was one of the most
popular surnames in all of Japan. So there was no hope of using
his name to find out anything about the past he had forgotten.
Chevy still looked unsettled, and Yukito frowned a little to
himself. I'm somehow doing something weird, right? But I have no
idea what.. If there had been any other person in the room,
Yukito would have assumed they were the cause of Chevy's
stuttering words and nervous shifting. But with no one, and
nothing, in the room save themselves, there was no other
explanation. They had gone out with the rest of the group to the
buffet dinner the other night, and Chevy had seemed to want to
avoid interacting with Yukito - and possibly Zinnia - at all
costs. Process of observation: Chevy, for some reason, did not
like being around him.
But as to why, Yukito couldn't figure it out. He shifted in his
seat, his own chair four or five desks away from 'Baxter', his
posture closed off. Don't fret about it. Just finish the stupid
survey and go home. He lifted up the paper again, taking
initiative on the project mechanically, "It says we have to use
five words and describe ourselves."
He had to put down his pencil for that one, touching his fingers
to his lips as he contemplated. "Studious....quiet...." A long
pause, then. He tried to think of something - anything - that
felt like it suited himself. But he came up completely blank.
None of the things he wanted to say should be conveyed on a
ridiculous survey, spoken to someone he felt couldn't dislike
him more. Musical. Lonely. Stupid. Romantic. Self-conscious.
Angry. Insecure. Confused. Scared. Naive.
"That's all I've got," he frowned, looking toward the windows.
"Enhanced. I guess those three are all I need." Why did he
suddenly feel a pang in his chest, only from one meaningless
question? Yukito let out a slow exhale, keeping his voice
carefully guarded like a barricade against an onslaught. "Your
turn."

"I'm adopted," Yukito said with a shrug before reaching up to
play with his earring and leaning one elbow on the desk, "I've

somehow certain places still use my birth name, instead of my

past Yukito's head.
"It says we have to use five words and describe ourselves."
Yukito stated as he pulled out his pencil and began jotting down
words, "Studious....quiet...." there was a long pause and then,
"That's all I've got. Enhanced. I guess those three are all I
need. Your turn." Chevy shifted uncomfortably in his seat and he
picked up his own pencil, writing down Yukito's answers.
"Proud, outgoing, intuitive, overbearing, and homo-" he inhaled
deeply and scratched out his own answers, "young." He dropped
his pencil back down the desk and clenches his jaw. His heart
picked back up again and he could feel his blood pressure start
to rise. He took a few deep breathes, clenching and unclenching
his fists before standing up, paper in hand, and pacing across
the room. "You've got to be kidding me." he gritted out, his
hand tightening on the paper, "how has your Enhancement changed
the way you see yourself and others?" He ran one hand through
his hair and barks out a laugh.
"What are they going to do? Take it back?" he muttered, biting
down on his lower lip and shutting his eyes. His entire body was
trembling, the paper shaking in his hand. Abruptly, he went
completely rigid, his breathing ceasing for a few seconds before
his posture relaxed and he opened his eyes. He slowly made his
way back to his desk and picked up the pencil again, his
suddenly dead eyes raking over Yukito's form as he fell back
into his seat.

Yukito Ramsey
"Proud, outgoing, intuitive, overbearing, and homo-" Chevy
inhaled deeply, then added, "Young."
Yukito had been writing while Chevy spoke, then he looked up
with a deadpan expression. Chevy looked visibly distressed, the
way Reese sometimes did when there was someone really annoying
and 'noisy' in the room, but Chevy was at about ten times that.
Without a word, Yukito looked down at his paper, writing down
the words Chevy had chosen.
Suddenly Chevy stood up and began to pace the room. When he
moved, Yukito jumped as though a gunshot had gone off past his
head. "You've got to be kidding me." Chevy was tense with
aggravation, and Yukito watched him pace like a lion in a cage,
an unsettled expression on his face. "How has your Enhancement
changed the way you see yourself and others?" He ran one hand
through his hair and barked out a laugh, the kind of laugh one
released when they are being mocked and have only pitiful
retorts to defend themselves with.
"It's just a stupid survey," Yukito mumbled. He didn't see why
Chevy should be so visibly upset. He hadn't even done anything.
Perhaps it's not me. What if he's just a basket-case?
"What are they going to do? Take it back?" the boy muttered,
closing his eyes. Yukito said nothing, his eyes now transfixed
on Chevy. He was shaking as if from the cold, his hand clenched
tightly on the paper in his hand. Yukito could see the edge of
it where his own name was written. He could see how heated Chevy
seemed, and wondered if the boy had a fever. But he had appeared
perfectly fine a few minutes before...What had set the switch
off?
After a prolonged moment of some kind of meditation, Chevy
opened his eyes once again, a cold, hard stare that Yukito felt
increasingly uncomfortable with. Chevy walked over to his seat
and sat down, his movements statue-like and stiff. Yukito
shifted in his seat, feeling a weightiness and wishing that he
had been placed with any other student from the Academy at that
moment. They locked me in a room with a nut job for an hour.
This is an all new sort of torture. He mentally groaned, his
expression changing to its previously calculated passiveness.
"I guess that would be a 'negatively'," he stated
matter-of-factly. "Are you sick or something?" Then, after
pondering a moment, Yukito moved toward the windows, away from
Chevy, and found that it wasn't painted over or nailed shut. "I
can open the window," he offered, pushing it upward. The instant
he felt the breeze blowing on his face, he felt more relieved.
It was like the room was starting to fill with a kind of smoke,
and it was just oozing out of Chevy like one of those poisonous
reptiles that is deadly to the touch. Yukito went back to his
seat and instantly checked his cell phone for the time.
Only four minutes had passed. He sighed.
"I don't remember what it was like before my Enhancement, so I
can't say how it's changed my views. Just put that down," he
instructed, staring at his hands on the table.

Chevy Dawsom
Breathe in, breathe out, breathe in, breathe out.
"I guess that would be a 'negatively'," Yukito stated, "Are you
sick or something?" Chevy grunted, twirling his pencil between
his fingers and staring blankly a head. You don't need five
words, do you, boy? You're a worthless homosexual. That's all
you'll ever be, isn't it? You couldn't even do the one thing
your momma asked of you, date women. Chevy blinks hard, his eyes
blurring in and out of focus as he tries to quell his emotions.
Yukito got up and made his way toward the window, putting some
distance between him and Chevy. There is a short bout of silence
before:
"I can open the window." Yukito offered, raising the pane and
allowing the fresh air to sweep into the room. A chill ran up
Chevy's spin, his torso shivering for a split second before
settling again. Yukito looked visible relieved as he walked back
over to his seat and checked his phone before sighing. "I don't
remember what it was like before my Enhancement, so I can't say
how it's changed my views. Just put that down," he instructed.
Chevy nodded stiffly, his hand moving to right down Yukito's
response before it completely registered in his brain.
"I hate it, you know." he croaked out, wincing at how raw his
voice comes across, "I live in constant fear that I am going to
give someone a mental breakdown because I can't keep my own
emotions in check, that I am going to be the final straw." He
posture was still rigid and his eyes were still cold, but his
emotions started to seep into his voice. He blinked a couple
times and shook his head a little but the cold didn't disappear.
"What do you dream about most often, Yukito?" He paused to wait
for the answer as his mind because to reel. Who's business was
it to know what he dreamed about? Why was it necessary to ask
something so personal?

Yukito Ramsey
"I can open the window." Yukito offered, raising the pane and
allowing the fresh air to sweep into the room. It sent a breeze
past them both, and Yukito instantly felt relief at the fresh
air blowing through his hair. He had a thing about open windows.
If Chevy complained, he decided, Chevy would just have to deal.
But either way, they were stuck in this room together for an
hour. Yukito begrudgingly made his way back to his seat. "I
don't remember what it was like before my Enhancement, so I
can't say how it's changed my views. Just put that down," he
instructed. Chevy nodded stiffly, writing down Yukito's words.
"I hate it, you know." Chevy suddenly said, his voice strained
and taut as a tight-rope. "I live in constant fear that I am
going to give someone a mental breakdown because I can't keep my
own emotions in check, that I am going to be the final straw."
Yukito watched Chevy for a moment with realization. Chevy's
Enhancement was a sort of mood thing, wasn't it? He'd heard it
mentioned a few times in passing, mostly by Chevy himself, to
others. Had he been spending the whole time squirming because he
didn't want to get emotional? Well, that doesn't seem to be
working, he thought, with not a little sarcasm.
"Ironic," was all he said, writing down the words Hates it.
Lives in constant fear of not being able to keep it in check.
Hey, it was the honest answer, right?
"What do you dream about most often, Yukito?"
Was that really the next question? He glanced down the page to
confirm it, then let out a groan and a roll of his eyes. He
hated this question.
"Fluffy bunny rabbits," he muttered, the wave of irritation
oozing out of Chevy making his mood sour. "Lepre-Leprechauns."
The word sounded altogether wrong in his accent, still too thick
and annoying by Hal's standards and his own. It got in his way
sometimes, like walking knee-deep through the mud. Yukito made a
face, choosing to ignore it, turning toward the window as though
he saw something interesting outside. Then he sighed. He just
couldn't help it - he had to be honest on such things, even if
it was a survey, not a graded test.
"I suffer from a sort of night-terror, actually. Some sort of
PTSD. So you can put whatever you want down, I don't care." He
glanced over and gave Chevy a little grimace, "You don't have to
worry about me. I already had a mental breakdown, so.."

"Fluffy bunny rabbits," Yukito stated and Chevy felt a twinge of
anger flare up in the pit of his stomach, "Lepre-Leprechauns." A
bird tweeted outside the window, the sound sharp like gunfire to
Chevy's ears, and a soft breeze blew in, rustling the paper on
the clipboards. Chevy inhaled deeply, the fresh air cooling his
burning lungs and chipping away at his emotional armor. His
stomach rolled and twisted the longer his stared at his paper,
the question staring back at him.
"You know, Yukito, I'm kind of getting really sick of your bs."
Chevy snapped, "Are you even capable of fully answering a
question or do you feel this compulsive need to beat around the
bush until everyone gives up and doesn't care anymore? You sit
around and mope because people don't care, because they don't
try, when in reality, you have just pushed everyone way and

guilt, but his brain barely registered it around the anger that
was rolling and crashing inside of him like an ocean as a storm
moves it.
"Of course you don't care," Chevy growled, "When do you ever
actually care about anything? Poor pitiful Yukito, you are such
a sad, lost soul and our delusional group of has have somehow
convinced themselves that you will let them in long enough to
help you. I don't think you want anyone to help. I think you

brought his fist down on the surface of the desk, the clipboard
jolting with the force. "You are so completely infuriating!" he
exclaimed, running a hand through his hair and tugging angrily
at the roots. He wished for nothing more than for the hour to
end, for them to be able to go about their lives ignoring each

Yukito let out a sigh slowly pulling off his sunglasses and
toying with them in his hand. Obviously, he hadn't expected to
get out of answering the questionnaire. He had just wanted to
have something in the air besides the god-awful tension that
Chevy had brought with him. And yes, Chevy. That's exactly
right. I'm hoping everyone just stops caring so much, but I'm
addicted to them all like a bad drug, and I can't stop coming
back to them. Thank you for pointing it out. "I suffer from a

put whatever you want down, I don't care." he said with a
grimace, sure that now Chevy just had more ammunition to peg
Yukito as the village idiot, the pity party. "You don't have to

"Of course you don't care," Chevy growled, "When do you ever

though he has just been slapped, and his heart stopped
completely for a moment. "You are so completely infuriating!" he
exclaimed, running a hand through his hair and tugging angrily
at the roots.
Yukito sent Chevy a glare, his brows furrowing as he stood up,
"Well, you're not exactly a picnic, either!" He shouted, "And
stop slamming s*** around like it makes you intimidating!" As he
spoke, he took his own clipboard and slammed it on his desk
repeatedly, putting emphasis on certain words with another WHAM
of the clipboard. "Yes, I'm 'poor, poor Yukito'! In a school
full of freaks, I'm the only one I ever think about. You know
what? Amazingly enough? I never asked for mine, either, Chevy. I
got my Enhancement because my brain couldn't handle hitting a
car, and I woke up with my whole family and my whole life ripped
away from me! I can't even remember my mother's face. And guess
who I woke up with?! Dr. Hal Ramsey, who is always known for his
loving, welcoming nature and encouragement, right?!" He jabbed a
finger in Chevy's direction, his voice growing hoarse. "I've
never belittled you or your Enhancement, Chevy. Not to your
face, not behind your back, nowhere. And I don't belittle
others', either. I never asked anything of you, and I never
expected anything from you. Just because I don't know how to
properly live doesn't mean I lose the right to live anyway I
d*** well please. So just shut up."
You don't know a thing about me, or what it really means to be
alone. You may have had it tough, but you had people who would
have at least tried to hold you when you cried at night, you had
people to run to who you knew would accept you. You grew up
knowing that your mother actually existed.
