       Clarence Morgan
"So you lost a brother you had? I don't think so."
Clarence looked at her, a bit of anger flashing in his eyes.
"Yeah, I kinda did. Thanks for not giving one iota,
sweetcheeks." Crossing his arms tightly across his chest,
       looking away. "Whatever."
"But I appreciate your effort to console me."
"Good," he sighed, rolling his eyes.
If this girl couldn't switch gears like a bike, he didn't know.
Zinnia snorted, seeming amused, and Clarence just looked at her,
       raising an eyebrow. "What now?
"And I meant I need more water right now, not that I want more
of it in general. I'd substitute emotional control for that any
       day."
"HA!" Clarence laughed, suddenly, throwing his head back. "If I
had any of that, I still wouldn't have enough to share."
She got up and started moving, and he just watched her for a
moment. Sighing, he gave up, turning back to his paper.
"How about one I know you can do?" He scribbled down her answers
and then looked up at her with a confident smirk, hoping to --
this time -- manage to distract her from all of the heavy stuff
on her mind. "You said before you couldn't do it, but give it a
shot..." He paused for effect, sending her a wink, "... describe
       yourself in five words."
Zinnia seemed at least a little amused, leaning back against a
wall. "Ok. Fine...." She seemed deep in through for a moment,
and Clarence just worked on relaxing the tension in his
shoulders, waiting for her to respond. "Stubborn, Loyal,
       Guarded, Perfectionist....Alone."
He rolled his eyes. "At least it's better than last time," he
said, leaning over to write it down. "Alright... for me, it'd
       probably be...
Zinnia yawned, and Clarence hear a slight crack that made him
       look over. "Ow."
He smirked. "Girly girl. That couldn't have hurt that bad."
Sighing, he turned back to his paper, staring at the question,
thinking. "Confident... loyal..." Clarence paused to wink at
her. "Handsome." Chuckling quietly, he tried to recompose
       himself. "Hm... Conflicted. Over-bearing."
He looked up at her expectantly. "Alright, so, what next?"
"So, Clarence, tell me." Zinnia looked at him evenly, and he
       returned the stare.
"Yes, madame?" he said, his voice deep and teasing.
"What's the craziest thing you've ever done?"
"Ooooh..." His face twisted with amusement and a bit of
       surprise. "Let's see..."
"And why'd you do it?" she added.
He raised an eyebrow at her. "Oh, that's harder," he laughed.
"Lemme think..." He pressed a finger to his lower lip, thinking
carefully. "I wish I could think of something really
impressive..." Clarence chuckled. "Well, I figured out, that
with my Enhancement..." Holding up his hands pointedly, looking
at her. "I can change the lights on a traffic light." Wiggling
his fingers dramatically, he smirked at her. "I was already mad
about something else, then I saw an old lady was slowly making
her way through the intersection. This other car was coming
blazing through, and I knew it'd hit her... I got pretty
panicked and just jumped forwards and shut the lights off for a
moment." He laughed, leaning back a bit. "I fumbled a bit to
turn it back on, but managed to switch the power so the light
was green for the old lady again. It was a good day after that."
Shrugging, he looked at her. "So there's what I did and there's
the reason. I don't have a whole lot of really daring stories,
unfortunately. I've lived her my own life. Not much to say for
this town." He glanced down at his paper, not looking up at her.
       "So, um... what about you?"

Sighing, he turned back to his paper for a few moments.
"Confident... loyal..." Clarence paused to wink at her. She just
waited. "Handsome." He chuckled quietly, and she rolled her
eyes. Some people.... "Hm... Conflicted. Over-bearing."
He looked up at her after a short pause. "Alright, so, what
       next?"
She blinked a couple times, then went on. "So, Clarence, tell
me." Zinnia looked at him evenly, and he returned the stare.
"Yes, madame?" he said, his voice deep and teasing.
She rolled her eyes again, but continued. "What's the craziest
       thing you've ever done?"
"Ooooh..." His face twisted into a slightly surprised. "Let's
       see..."
"And why'd you do it?" she added. No easy questions for him
anymore. She was still recovering from her earlier burst of
       emotion.
He raised an eyebrow at her. "Oh, that's harder," he laughed.
"Lemme think..." He pressed a finger to his lower lip. "I wish

chuckled. "Well, I figured out, that with my Enhancement..."
Holding up his hands pointedly, he looked at her. She just
raised her eyebrows. She could shoot him faster than he'd be
able to get to her, if it came to that.
"I can change the lights on a traffic light." Wiggling his
fingers dramatically, he smirked at her. "I was already mad
about something else, then I saw an old lady was slowly making
her way through the intersection. This other car was coming
blazing through, and I knew it'd hit her... I got pretty

Shrugging, he looked at her. "So there's what I did and there's
the reason. I don't have a whole lot of really daring stories,
unfortunately. I've lived here my own life. Not much to say for
this town." He glanced down at his paper, not looking up at her,
some memory or other probably dragging at his mind. "So, um...
       what about you?"
       "Quite the hero, huh, Clarence?"
She didn't have a good answer to give him, so she started
stalling, trying to think of something she could use. If she
used anything truly crazy that she'd done, she'd be kicked out
of the school point blank. Finding the scientists who had killed
her parents was one thing, but finding and killing them was
premeditated murder and she knew the school wouldn't stand for
it, revenge or not. And she couldn't let anyone find out more
than she'd told Yukito, or Reese even.
"Did the old lady appreciate it, at least, or even notice? Or
are you one of those people who prefers to have unsung glory so
you can brag about it to your friends?" She was looking for a
rise out of him now, just to distract him from her stalling. If
she could. He was pretty smart. And angry. Anger helped,
although if he touched her with that Enhancement of his, she had
       no idea what would happen.
And she was trying to come up with a good answer, at the same
time. She racked her brain. The only other things she could
think of that were 'crazy' would be fleeing the embassy the day
after she'd gotten her passport, and trying to get drunk that
one time. Shrugging, she finally spoke.
"I think the craziest thing I've ever done... well, craziest
things, I guess there's two. I fled the US embassy, after
getting my passport, and... well, I tried to get drunk once."
She paused. "As for why..." she shrugged.
"I was done with the Embassy. They'd started putting me on a
watch during the day, because nobody trusted that I could
control my emotions, which just made it worse when I DID try.
They'd stopped shoving needles in me for sure, but an escort to
a metal-walled room called the... oh what was it... basically a
jail cell for misbehaved US citizens. Didn't help. Kept me from
shooting shit, the walls were much closer than normal, and I had
no idea how much my shots would bounce. But that was it, for me.
       I decided I'd wait until I got a passport, so I wouldn't have to
worry about not having a nationality, and then during the day,
during a shift change or whatever, I left. Nobody knew who was
supposed to tail me, so by the time they realized I was gone, I
was... well, gone. They came close to finding me. I went into a
national park and climbed up a tree and stayed there for a few
nights. Then I went further into France after a while. Nobody
bothered me from the Embassy again.
"As for getting drunk, I didn't quite manage it... only got
three shots of ...something... before the people I was staying
with came back and found me out. I'd had a really bad day for
whatever reason. It wasn't like I did anything back then, except
sit on the roof of the loft thing or wander around the area
looking for flea markets for clothes or things, to hear the
language better, you know... I'd seen something cute at a
market--I don't even remember what it was anymore, so don't
ask-- and I'd wanted to buy it, and the vendor kept tantalizing
me with it and then telling me it wasn't for sale. I don't know.
I got mad so I stalked off, but anger tends to not go away that
easily for me. So I decided I'd try to get drunk. Even took the
bottle and glass to the roof, so if anything bad did happen, it
wouldn't be so bad. And not even that panned out for me." She
shook her head. That memory wasn't something she was very proud
of, but she kept it around to remind herself to not do stupid
       shit again.
"I gave up trying to forget, after that. Just...searched however
I could for the scientists who'd done it. At least one of them
was French, I thought, so I kept looking..." she trailed off,
wishing she hadn't said anything else. She didn't want him to
ask what she'd do if she met up with one of them... because
she'd have to lie, and she wasn't exactly good at that. Or,
she'd tell him the truth, and get kicked out of the school.
"I hate my Enhancement." she mumbled, looking down. "I really,
       really hate my enhancement."
She put her paper down on the nearest desk and sat down on the
floor, spent and not wanting to answer anymore questions.
