"Um..yeah. But I'm not sure what mine will be quite yet. They
don't talk to me about it too much, which really bugs my mom.."
He shrugged. "What's your Enhancement? I bet you got something
really cool, huh?"
Erin sent him a smile. "Yeah, I'm basically your local real-life
mermaid," she told him, half-joking and half-proud. "I mean, I
don't have scales or anything, because... creepy. But my lungs
do work underwater. It's pretty cool."
Daniel's eyes widened, and his mouth dropped open, making Erin
giggle. It was nice to know even in a place where everyone had
something cool and unique about them that people still
appreciated Erin's not-so-obvious Enhancement. "Wow..that is
really cool! You could just live out in the water, become best
friends with your own flounder.."
"Yeah, I keep one in my bathtub. His name's Franklin." She
nodded, an over-exaggerated 'serious' look on her face.
"I mean..I hope my Enhancement is half as cool as that.."
"I think any Enhancement is cool. So, you don't have any idea
what you might get? Jeez.... like, we had in-depth conversations
about which ones would work for me, and I got to at least say
like, 'yeah, that sounds cool' or 'no, that one's not what I'd
want.' I'd hate not knowing!"
He raised his hand and rubbed at the back of his neck, giving a
small laugh. "Eh, well..they've talked about several different
ones, but... I have no idea what I'm going to get...because Dr.
Ramsey says I'm not very suitable for many of the Enhancements
available, and he wants to try for more complex ones.. But
hopefully I can get the final say. I'm not good at decisions,
though..is there a cake-making Enhancement, or a not-so-clumsy
Enhancement?"
"Oooh.... imagine what a cake-making Enhancement could do! Like,
you walk into the kitchen, whirl around a few times, and then-
BAM!- this perfect five-tiered expertly-fondant-covered cake is
there, and you're just like, 'woah, we didn't even have eggs in
the house, how is this possible?' That's it-- I'm gonna request
a cake-making Enhancement. This needs to happen!"

glare. Daniel couldn't help it - he was beaming from ear to ear.
"A cake-making Enhancement sounds like such a found idea.." he
chuckled, "Can you even send in requests for stuff like that?
Haha..." He was glad he had gotten paired up with Erin. Even if
they weren't getting much actual work done, it was becoming
clear to Daniel that he had least met someone, and perhaps even
became friends. "Lunch is next...do you..do you mind if I sit
with you? I'm sure you're already sitting with other people,
but.." He smiled. "I'm the new kid and all..."

"Ha! I wish. Dr. Ramsey would never approve something like that.
No way would anything that cool could ever pass."
"Lunch is next...do you..do you mind if I sit with you? I'm sure
you're already sitting with other people, but.." He smiled. "I'm
the new kid and all..."
"Psssh, of course!" Erin nodded, gesturing as if it was obvious
he'd sit with her. "You can totally sit with us! My friends are
pretty epic, so. You know." She gave a proud smirk. The warning
bell sounded then, and Erin wrinkled her face. "Aw, crap. We got
a load of nothing done." Then she shrugged. "Oh, well! Let's
just go eat some food now." She hopped up from her seat and
grabbed her bag, eager to leave the room. "We can just do this
later or something."

No way would anything that cool could ever pass." Daniel smiled,
unsure whether or not that was a good thing or a bad thing. He
was pretty sure it was a compliment, though.
"Lunch is next...do you..do you mind if I sit with you? I'm sure
you're already sitting with other people, but.." He smiled. "I'm
the new kid and all..."
"Psssh, of course!" Erin nodded, as it it was the most obvious
thing in the world that he would join her. "You can totally sit
with us! My friends are pretty epic, so. You know." She gave a
proud smirk, and he believed her. The bell sounded off then, and
Erin's face wrinkled in disgust. "Aw, crap. We got a load of
nothing done." Then she shrugged. "Oh, well! Let's just go eat
some food now." She jumped up from her seat, more than eager to
leave the classroom, and Daniel stumbled along after her,
tripping on his backpack strap before managing to pick it up.
"We can just do this later or something."
"Y-Yeah!" he beamed, trailing behind her like a lost puppy that
had found a new owner. Working on it later meant that they had
to swap contact information, which meant they would hang out in
the future. Which meant he wasn't going to be the awkward 'new
kid' forever. He was sure Erin's friends would be just as
welcoming as she was, and she was grateful they had been paired
up. "Thanks, Erin!"

"Aw, crap. We got a load of nothing done." Then she shrugged.
"Oh, well! Let's just go eat some food now." Erin leapt up,
grabbing her stuff and rushing for the door. It was kind of a
mad rush, as usual, and they all ended up slowing down a little
before crossing the threshold of the room. "We can just do this
later or something," she told him amid the jostling of
booksacks, bags, and walking bodies.
"Y-Yeah!" Daniel looked like he'd just been given a free coupon
for a chicken dinner. It made Erin laugh a little. "Thanks,
Erin!"
"Dude, you must really be into science," she said, through
giggles. "You're welcome!" Finally, they made it out the door.
"C'mon, I'll show you the way around. And we'll get the best
seat in the cafeteria!"
Erin has left the science lab!
