Eyes Up Guardians (V)
By: Dahvir Date: April 12, 2018, 1:11 pm
---------------------------------------------------------
Things were quiet in the Tower today. Not too much was
happening. All of the Guardians were out on patrols, the only
people coming and going being the occasional delivery drop to
Kadi or Amanda.
The Vanguard was holed up in their usual hangout.
Shax was shouting about the Crucible...like always.
Eris was being...Eris.
"Aaaaahhh! I'm going nuts out here! This is so *BORING*!" Asa
shouted, falling back against the ground. He was sitting on one
of the towers to access the Vault, normally a place that
Guardians couldn't get to. Good thing Asa was creative enough.
"Quiet your shouting Asa, please." Asa's ghost appeared in front
of him, circling above him quickly before stopping just above
his chest, the blue eye staring down at him. "If you're so
bored, we can just go patrol."
"But Arthur! I can't show off any of my skills when it's just
you!" Asa complained, sitting up. Arthur floated backward,
meeting Asa at eye-level.
"We could go see Executor Hideo. I'm sure he's got some work we
can do."
Asa sighed, looking up at the sky. "You're probably right. In
fact, I know he has work for me to do. I'm supposed to be doing
it right now."
Arthur had been floating in the direction of Tower North, toward
the New Monarchy faction spot as well as the Speaker's area,
when he stopped.
"He already gave you a task?"
"Yep."
"And you haven't completed it yet?"
"If I do, I go into that dumb "serious mode" and I don't have
any fun."
"But Asa-"
"And besides, if I do, he'll just give me more work to do after.
It never ends! I mean, I know I'm a machine, but damn!"
"Asa, I-"
"And I know you're going to report this to him. I know
everything I say is recorded. I don't care. Hideo will have his
job done, don't you worry your shell off." His voice was a
growl, not arrogant or almost childish like it had been before.
He swung his legs over the edge of the Vault tower, leaning
forward on his elbows.
"I'm waiting. Hideo wants me to work with a team to better
develop and learn what it takes to work in a three-man squad. I
think he's got an army he wants me to lead. I've heard him
talking about it, and I find internal programs that I can't
access with "Kingslayer" as their designation. I don't know what
it is, but clearly working with a group is what it takes to find
out. It feels like there's this hole in my mind, and I can
just...just barely touch what it is before I get locked out."
Arthur stayed silent, the rear of his shell rotating once or
twice. Nothing of what Asa was saying surprised him. Arthur was
a ghost that came to Asa, but was intercepted by the New
Monarchy faction. They didn't harm him, but they did educate and
integrate him with the New Monarchy way of thinking. He accepted
Asa as his Guardian, and they had been together since. However,
as an Exo with a number designation, Asa had been rebooted once
already. The hole that he had been referring to was his old
life, before the reset. He wasn't permitted to talk about this,
on Hideo's orders. Asa was their prize, and his destiny was
manufactured by Hideo to lead the New Monarchy's Army to take
back Earth from the Fallen. Without Asa, that plan would have to
be pushed back, and Arthur knew Hideo would do anything he could
to prevent that.
"I see. Would you like me to remain down on the ground to search
for potential candidates?" Arthur offered.
"Yeah, that would be good. Find me a Bladedancer. Two heavy
hitters will be good, but not another Titan. As for the second
one, I don't particularly care. Just make sure they can actually
shoot this time. Last time, you paired me with a Warlock who had
his nose buried so far into his book, he forgot to shoot." Asa
grumbled the last bit, shaking his head.
"Ah, yes. I remember Bertrand. He may have forgotten to shoot,
but he managed to dodge every trap we came across. He wasn't a
valuable battle partner, but he was very helpful when we
attacked that Hydra that took shelter in the Vault of Glass."
Arther noted.
"Until both me and Romulus were both waiting for res and he was
just hiding and reading."
"True. I'll go find that Bladedancer."
Arthur floated down to the ground, staying near the trio of
Vault towers, but also staying particularly close to the
Cryptarch, Master Rahool. He enjoyed hearing stories and trading
opinions with the wise man, who had been on the tower for quite
some time. This was also normally a Guardian's first stop when
they return from the field, looking for the Cryptarch's help to
decrypt their engrams and offer advice, so it would be a good
location to scout for potential fireteam additions.
(So, basically this is just the intro. A bit of the "cocktail
hour" for the characters that will be starting the RP. The
actual mission won't begin until the date listed in the "Got a
Gun?" post.)
