“Yum!” Ithilwin walks to the fire to warm up and sits on the
ground, hugging her knees. “I go there a lot yeah. I was there
almost all the time when I was younger. I made friends with this
boy and his family gave me food once in a while...” Ithilwin
turned to look at Loren before continuing. “Humans aren’t all
that bad when you give them a chance.”

"Humans aren't that bad?!" Loren blurted out. "Humans have no
regard for nature. They tear down the trees, they abuse the land
as if they own it. They ruin everything they touch and they're
never happy with what they already have. Humans are nothing but
ruination and you'd do well to steer clear if you knew what was
good for you. Elves should stick together. And elves and humans
should never mix if it can be helped."

Ithilwin could feel her eyes start to get wet. Her voice choked
when to started to reply, "At least humans don't cast out their
family." Doing her best to not yell in return, she sighed.
"Elves are nothing but selfish bastards who refuse to let
someone with a creative mind think differently for themselves."

Loren can hear the anger and sadness in Ithilwin's voice. He
sighed. "Listen, I don't know your story but I know that humans
won't be so nice for much longer. They'll always want more no
matter the cost to themselves or others. Personally I think it's
our job to teach them how to love and nurture this land. But
they're stubborn and don't listen very well." The familiar
awkward silence returned only to broken a few minutes later;
"Alright, food's done. Hope it's good." Loren took a wooden
ladle and poured rabbit and potato stew into two wooden bowls -
giving a spoon and bowl to Ithilwin and taking one for himself.

"Le fael (you are generous)," Ithilwin said as she took the bowl
in her hands. She scooped up some of the stew in her spoon and
held it up to her lips. She blew lightly to cool it off as the
steam drew the smell to her nose and took a sip. "Elo! (Wow!)
This is wonderful. You truly are a great cook," she said with a
smile.

Loren smiled at the compliment but chose to eat in silence
mostly; "So what are your plans for tomorrow? I can take you
into the forest or you can leave. I'm afraid I can't let you
enter the forest alone though, you are a uh, well you're
essentially an outsider." Loren stared at her face trying to
gauge her reactions. Loren thought to himself for a moment,
considering her obvious bad history with Elves; "There's always
a way back into our family. You just need to want back in."

Ithilwin finished her last spoonful of stew, as she set her
spoon back into the bowl she said, "Right now, I have no reason
to want back in. Who knows it might change..." She sighed. "I
miss the green and the trees though. I suppose I wouldn't mind a
trip back."

"There is somewhere I could take you. Only the Scouts know about
it. It's hidden away from everyone else because of what lives
there; it's a unicorn glade and it's far enough inside the
forest that you'll be able to feel the old trees, maybe practice
your climbing." Loren smiled as he finished speaking waiting for
her answer.

"Gwaem! (We go!) This is wonderful, it has been so long."
Ithilwin's face lit up with excitement. "Will we run into other
elves there, though?"
