Amalia wrote a hand written letter to the prime minister of
Netherlands to say she waives rights to her yearly income as a
royal, at least for the time being. She wants time off.
Donīt know what to think of it and the hand written note.
She wants to live a "normal" life, but it is not normal to write
a hand written note to the prime minister.

in this day and age it would not go down well were she to accept
an allowance when she is not going to work.

Wonīt it be hard for her to return to royal life? When will she?
Is being royal a flexible thing?
I think this is problematic. Not that I donīt understand her, I
do on a personal level. She wants her freedom, who doesnīt?

The article says she's just taking a "gap year," which seems to
be the norm for most well-to-do young graduates in Europe these
days. I think it's good PR for her to refuse to accept a
"salary" when she's not picking up any royal duties. I can't
imagine she'll refuse to return to the royal family and her
duties as heir after she completes her education.

I guess it is the hand written note that puts me off. It is
staged to please - and I never liked manipulations like that.
