The 1980 law was indeed applicable retroactively to benefit
Victoria at the expense of CP.
CG was not against the law itself, but objected to the fact that
CP was ripped of his title, which he held since his birth.
Sweden was the first monarchy to adopt the absolute
primogeniture law. I think it was also the only monarchy where
the law was applicable retroactively.

CG wishes it was CP and his son...…
You know, we all say that CG would prefer his son to inherit,
rather than Vic as his eldest child. Did he publicly say as
much back when the rules of inheritance were changed or is it
just an impression that he gives? Had CP been born when the
rules were changed?
Yes, CG has said this publicly, even on many occasions, my
memory might be wrong, but I believe I saw him saying it in
front of Victoria once.
Yes, CP started out being the heir, rules had not been changed
when he was born.
The succession law was changed in 1980 when CP was one year old.

Thanks for the info. Then I agree with Cloaked that the Swedish
change was made without any consideration being given to the
feelings and wishes of those most affected by it. However, it
was thoughtless of CG to complain about it in front of his
daughter...who had no say in requesting or implementing it.

I can see that the way it was changed was problematic. They
should have changed it when Victoria was born.
I feel sorry for Victoria that she has two "burdens" to carry,
one, BEING the heir and two, having a bad conscience towards her
brother.
Maybe I should also feel bad for CP, but it is harder for me. :P

Not nice to say here, but they always look like a Mobster family
at funerals.
I think Snakey actually looks good here, to say something
positive. :)

It is a beautiful tradition. I participated in it some years in
a row when I was a young teen.
P.S. Muslims, Jews and people of other religions have no problem
having their kids participate in the Lucia parades, so it is
very including, which makes it even more beautiful.
