What the feck did she think would happen? Accolades? A Nobel
Prize? She needs medication.

I agree. It sounds just like something she'd do to get her
point across without having to come right out and say it.
Remember her comments years ago in a New York restaurant? This
is just more of the same. And besides, that thing's UUUUGLY.

Oh, come on, princess Michael of Kent, this is disgusting!
Notice also how HIGH she is wearing that sick brooch! On the
friggin shoulder! She is making sure it can be seen while she is
sitting in the car. She is a vile women for doing this.

While I find the wearing of this disgusting at all levels......
except for the fact that any brooche would be pinned exactly
there. Look at any pic of QEII or QEQM and you will see what I
mean. If it was a lovely sparkly diamond bow or starburst, for
example, I would say it was positioned perfectly.

I'm afraid I would never have seen that as intentionally racist.
And I don't mean to offend anyone here by saying that.
There are so many works of art that have white skin etc. Why
can't a beautiful work featuring dark skin be a focus?
The jewellery deserves accodades for it's workmanship. The
Christmas nativity always has one of the wise men as
majestically bejewelled and black. PP could have worn this
before with no reprecussions.
Meghan made mention of her mixed race background. She drew
attention to it. Princess Pushy possibly wanted to embrace and
welcome Meghan by wearing the brooch and was ignorant as to how
narrow minded and politically correct some sections of society
are about the Blackamoor collection. I think PP's appology
should be accepted in good faith.
I learnt something new ... and she belongs to a more insulated
social group.

I am glad you are saying this and you are raising a few good
questions.
I would also not see the Blackamoor work as racist and I have to
admit that I do have a bit of a hard time understanding what's
so offensive about it. All I see if beautiful work, albeit not a
piece a jewelry I would want or wear but it's still beautiful.
But clearly, some people are very sensitive about it.
That said, re. Princess Pushy wearing such a piece, I can
imagine that she is capable of the worst. I hope she wore it
simply because she likes it, with no other hidden thoughts.

It is the stereotyping that is the problem.
You don´t see jewellery with white people depicted like this.
It reminds me of figures like those:

We used to have one of those in a park in my town in Iceland.
You placed a coin in his hand, turned his ear and he would eat
the coin.
It is long gone now!

How would we feel if we turn it around and black people wore
jewellery depicting white people?

I imagine that they do. I, personally, would not be offended.
Though I now understand that some people could be.
Plenty of people wear mini portraits of white people.
I've seen jewellery made to look like a tiny white discus
thrower.
I've seen white ballerina brooches. I've seen white and dark
disney princesses made into necklaces for girls.
Surely the jewellery is not sold with a restriction on who can
wear it.
I never look hard to see what coloured skin a person has if they
should choose to be wearing a cameo.

I have to admit that I gasped when I saw princess Michael wear
this brooch, and so did a lot of other people, I can see in
articles and clips on the internet.
I don´t see black people wear jewellery with white people
depicted in various situations.

I think people find this jewelry offensive because it’s sort of
a fetishized depiction of Africans as slaves and/or servants. At
least that’s how I have understood it.
I can remember a time here in the states when it wasn't unusual
to see lawn jockeys in front yards. They are now seen in a
similar light and are fast disappearing.
This is a very good discussion of a touchy subject, and I’m glad
we’re having it!
