Don't mistake Trump's comments for the opinions of the
government of the United States, Abs. Trump is not the
government. More and more he's becoming simply a figurehead; a
figurehead that represents only part of the American populace
and almost none of the government. The US will never abandon
its allies, despite Trump's ridiculous "tweets." Denmark can
rely on ALL its NATO partners for support, and the US, in
particular, will continue to stand with Denmark and the rest of
our European friends politically, economically, socially, and
financially...despite the childish actions of a New York City
real estate developer who has no knowledge or experience in
government or international affairs. People in the US never
took Trump's idiotic "buy Greenland" tweets seriously. We're
laughing at him. His refusal to visit Denmark embarrasses us
but we hope the Danes will see it for what it really is: a
silly attempt to get even by a spoiled, school-yard bully.
"That was surprising" was the perfect put-down by the Danish
court. It treats Trump and his entire buy Greenland/visit
Denmark fiasco as a minor comedy. Embarrassing for us, to be
sure, but nothing to seriously worry about.

Thank you for your good post, Chris - for me though, this new
development makes me very insecure about Denmarkīs position. I
feel that we are defenseless.
Russia very interested in the island where we have our holiday
house, and now this with the US.
I knew it would come to this, once the orange moron found out
that Greenland is not for sale, I think I said so in a post
earlier. He is so predictable.
BTW. I forgot to give you the quote from the Danish court in
itīs full. It was: "That was surprising. That is all we will say
about this matter."

Unfortunately, I do not think that Trump is an idiot and I
wished people would be more aware of how dangerous he is and how
skilled he is in getting the media's and people's attention.
Re. Greenland, while unlikely to happen, his idea is not that
far-fetched at all. In the past, the US bought Alaska from the
Russians and Louisiana from the French. The US also tried to buy
Greenland twice in 1867 and 1946.
They had a military base there and some kind of "airplane" hub.
In the past fifteen years, the US started to withdraw from
Greenland because they didn't see any big economic interest in
staying... which opened the way to the Chinese who see some
geo-political interest in having a foot in Greenland... which in
turn doesn't suit the US who would like to set a foot back
now... so it seems. I just hope he is not going to invade
Greenland.
Also Trump knows how to grasp headlines and dominate the media
landscape. This comes at the detriment of the Democrats who are
launching their primaries, not that I think that the democrats
stand any chance against Trump.
A part of me is counting the days until his presidency is over
and another part of me fears what can happen in the next 5
years. I feel that the hardliners that support Trump are not
willing to give up the power. I hope the US institutions are
strong enough and that the "grey men" in the White House will
prevail.

There is an alt-right movement in the US, in parts of South
America and in Europe.
They are growing stronger by the day, very much helped and
legitimized by the rhetorics and actions of Donald Trump.
I am totally afraid too of what will happen in the next few
years.
I do see Trump as a very dangerous person, he is very skilled at
manipulating and distracting the people and the press. I think
he will vin in 2020 - the democrats donīt have strong candidates
at all.

usually, the outgoing president of the united states wins his
second mandate. there are very few cases where it did not
happen. among the recent ones, george bush (the father) lost his
second bid but you can claim that his election was the
equivalent of a third mandate for ronald reagan, so it was time
for a change. other than that, in the last 30 years they all did
two terms.
the democrats need to think really hard at how they want to
profile themselves and at how they are going to attract voters.
it was a time where you had to "play in the centre", to get the
swing voters, those that would vote left or right. but these
days seem to be gone. the political landscape has hardened and
it seems the outer edges (the extremists) have a say, which in
my opinion makes it much harder to find the right message.
getting the right message out is not that easy to do. george w.
bush and trump were laughed at because they sounded very
simplistic if not stupid, but it's exactly that that got them
close to the public. their message was clear, understandable and
easy for people to identify with. their opponents tried to look
too smart and/or lived in their little bubble, and eventually
lost the interest of the public.
also, the democratic party these days has too many currents.
bernie sands voters are not the same as clinton or obama voters.
i feel it's partly because of that, that clinton eventually
lost. bernie sanders came on board far too late. at some point,
if you want to win, you have to rally around the one that
carries the torch. the republicans did that for trump, even
those that didn't like him.
we also face something similar in europe. the traditional
parties are failing. the political lines harden. just look at
france. the socialist party has been destroyed. the traditional
right parties as well. the political landscape is fractured,
with too many parties, which gives extremist parties their
chance to grab the power. look at the UK, with the brexiters.
talk about something that started like a big joke and where it
ended.
by the way, did you know that gloria von thurn and taxis is very
close to steve bannon? we have not yet seen the end of that here
in europe either.

No, had no idea about Gloria von Turn und Taxis and Bannon. I
don`t know who she is even. Just googled her. Bannon is a
busybody here in Europe, that I know. Stay away, pls, Mr.!
Another thing, imagine how the Greenlanders feel now about Trump
just proclaiming he wants to buy their country and subsequently
their fear he might just take it!!!!

The reason NATO was started, and the reason it continues to this
day, was to defend countries like Denmark in times of danger. I
say again, the US and NATO will never abandon their European
allies. Denmark is not defenseless so long as NATO continues as
a viable force. But...the sooner we can get Trump out of the
White House, the better off the US and the world will be. I
agree with Cara, however, that the Democrats have got to come up
with a better candidate than those who are presently running in
order to dump Trump. Otherwise, it will be four more years of
Looney Toons.

Chris, I know sooo well what NATO is! I come from a country
which has no military, we are a 100% dependent on NATO. :)
Personally I think that Trump will be reelected, and Europe
needs to rethink alliences and military strategies. Trump`s goal
is to crush us - serve us on a silver platter to Russia maybe?.
We cannot trust him.
Brexit is the beginning of the dissolvement of the European
Union.
Steve Bannon has had a big influence on that. There are the
cyber manipulation of people. The alt right is working overtime
on the internet and are very well organized. There will be big
changes.

A funny little thing. Saw this rag mag in a supermarket. Sorry
it is so blurry! It says: Trump in Denmark (well, he ainīt
coming, dooooh!) - and, Mary and Melaniaīs secret plan. The
large white letters say: We stand together.
Just funny they didnīt even stop their BS "story".
