       DRF News and Events

There was a minor scandal in the Danish Royal House.
Some professionals - old people who have stayed in the same job
for decades - were to receive medals of honour from the queen at
       Amalienborg (I guess).
Some travelled a long way, they probably bought new clothes for
the event and for some it cost them hotel fee.
The queen was not in the country - she was supposed to be back
for the event, but had been Christmas shopping in London and
there was snow fall, so she couldnīt get back.
Frederik had already left for Australia, so he wasnīt in the
       country either.
Jokke was here, so he was head of state, but he didnīt show up
       for some reason.
       Biiig bummer!

I think they should start not taking their positions for
       granted!
Everyone understands that Marge couldnīt get back. But Fred
could have postponed his travel (it was a matter of hours) OR
Jokke could have stepped in as head of state. I have no idea why
       he didnīt.
And again, people are angry at Jokke in particular.
There will be this documentary about him where he will try to
soften his image, but it is up hill for him. Hardly anyone in
       Denmark likes him.

       oh that's nasty.
clearly, there was little that marge could have done.
i'm on the fence re. fred. if he had already left, there's
little he could have done. if he had the opportunity to step in
for his mother, he should have made the effort. but was there
really a need for that since jokke was the regent at that time?
jokke could (should) have stepped in... as well as benedikte.

Exactly what people here are saying - and adding: what are we
paying them millions for each year if they cannot act as head of
state - when they ARE head of state.
In any case, I feel so very bad for those elderly people who
thought they would have a very special day - and were simply
       sent home!
P.S. Why wasnīt this communicated to them? They did go to
Amalienborg and no royal there to greet them (or maybe
       Christiansborg, not sure.)

I too feel bad for these people. They were probably all excited
and honored to meet the queen... It feels all very disrespectful
towards them. What's next? Another reception or are they just
going to get their medals by mail?
It's unbelievable that nothing was put in place to make sure
       they are received properly.

Here one of the gentlemen talks about what happened:
  HTML https://www.tv2lorry.dk/artikel/dronningen-aflyste-audiens-nu-undskylder-hun-personligt-til-john
The queen cancelled the audience: Now she apologizes personally
       to John
Queen Margrethe had to cancel the audience on December 11th. Now
she apologizes in a personal letter.
Monday, December 11 was an annoying day for John Gaden.
Sending a letter is the only way you can regret something
       deeply. I accept that excuse
John Gaden, head of FOF evening school in Skanderborg
The 81-year-old was taken all the way from Skanderborg to
Copenhagen in his nicest clothes to meet the queen at the
audience. He was given the opportunity for a personal meeting
because he worked for FOF Aftenskole in Skanderborg for 50
       years.
He had already received the Royal Reward Medal, and he would now
thank the Queen for that. The day also started as expected:
"We were going through a security check, then took one of our
outerwear and a few fine gentlemen repeated the things we had
done to get the medal with us. 76 people stood in line, people
were in a good mood, but then the surprise came: A gentleman
clapped his hands and announced that he had to cancel the
       audiophile, says John Gaden.
The queen had been on Christmas shopping in London, but due to
snowfall a plane could not ship her home to the audience. The
defender had sent a flight to London to pick up Queen Margrethe,
but the plane was not allowed to land due to snow.
       Santa did not come
This is the first time that an audition has been canceled with
such short notice, announced the Royal Danish press office.
Crown Prince Frederik was on holiday in Australia and could not
       take over.
The atmosphere was completely food. In the hall there is a big
painting of the queen. It became popular among the 76 attendants
when we could not meet her. And then you went home peacefully. I
was not angry, but disappointed, he says.
       - I will compare it with a Christmas Eve with the family. The
children are delighted and you have danced about the tree. Then
the father claps into his hands and says Santa is sneaking all
       the presents, says John Gaden.
       An excuse
However, a week later, he received a letter with the mail from
       the queen himself.
       - There was a nice stamp without on from Amalienborg. She wrote
that she deeply regretted that she had to cancel the audience.
Then she wanted me Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. In the
end, she wrote that she hoped to see me in the new year, says
       John Gaden.
"It was written on fine royal paper, and then there stood" Dear
John Gaden ". I like that, he says.
After receiving the letter, John Gaden will consider going to
       the audience again.
"The letter confirms that you did what you could. Sending a
letter is the only way you can regret something deeply. I accept
       that excuse, he says.

What makes the whole thing worse, although a bit "off topic", is
that Marge was supposed to be picked up by an aircraft from the
Danish air force. It was in English territory, but had to return
to Denmark because it didnīt get permission to land due to the
       weather.
WHAAAAAT? She goes to London, Christmas shopping and the Danish
       air force transports her? ???
       What does THAT cost?

Thankfully this type of thing hasn't happened before.
       It couldn't be helped.
It was right to write a personal letter and I think a further
       invite is in order.
       Dear John Gaden,
       Come for Christmas pudding.
       Dear John Gaden,
How about afternoon tea in the New Year?
