On Twitter
“Delphine Boël is awarded the title of Princess of Belgium and
may be addressed as Her Royal Highness. That information has
been confirmed to me by its lawyers, who today received the
judgment of the court of appeal in Brussels.”
“Her new official name will Delphine of Saxe-Coburg (van
Saksen-Coburg). Her children Josephine (16) and Oscar (12) will
also be recognised as Princess and Prince with the style of
Their Royal Highness. There has been no word on an official
allowance for Princess Delphine.“
“The children of Delphine Boël - sorry, Delphine of Saxe-Coburg,
as she is now called - may become princes of Belgium, but they
keep their family name O'Hare. Josephine (16) and Oscar (12)
bear the name of their father Jim O'Hare, Delphine's
Irish-American husband.”

Wow. That was quicker than expected.
I am glad for her. It took a lot of guts to fight what looked
like an uphill battle.
I think I mentioned it before. I got to meet her and her
husband. It's always difficult to know how they are behind
closed doors but both of them were truly lovely. I had a long
what with her husband about the US elections.

Delphine's press conference of today, Monday 5 October 2020.
Most of it is in French but there are some parts in English as
well. Will try to post some more info on her answers. Overall,
it's well balanced.

While I'm happy, for her sake, that Delphine has been
acknowledged as her father's child, I don't understand how she
can receive a title, etc. Her mother and father weren't
married, so she's not a legitimate child. Aren't such children
ineligible for inclusion in a royal line?

i guess that she received it is simply because it's the law.
illegitimate children have the same right to the name and
inheritance as legitimate children.
that's probably also why her children are prince/ss of belgium,
since astrid's are too.
of course, one can wonder why they are then not included into
the succession line, but i guess that falls under the
constitutional law (just a guess).
A question was raised whether the former king would take the
judgment to the Cassation Court, to which she replied that it is
unlikely to happen and that it is final.
She didn't want to get into potential inheritance issues... but
I can imagine this being raised should she be treated
differently from the other children when it comes to that.

fun little tidbit, i think at least.
The "neoclassic biennale" is taking place this weekend and next.
You get to visit interiors of buildings that are usually closed
to the public and there are also guided tours of certain areas
of the city.
Yesterday I participated in a guided tour of the "old Laeken".
During that tour we were shown a building of the family
Mosselman (litteral translation is mussels man). The family made
its fortune not with mussels but as butchers and later
diversified their activities... A descendant of the family
married an italian prince whose name was Fulco Ruffo di
Calabria... and was the grandmother of Paola of Belgium.
