No one yet has said that it was Philip's fault.
I won't judge him just because of his age. He, of all people,
is most likely to have had a health check. He had someone with
him and his car is modern and well kept. The accident happened
in a notoriously bad black spot where there have been many
accidents. Being a local, Philip would know to be cautious and
well prepared for that intersection.
I read that the cars on the main road routinely travel above the
speed limit. The council is considering lowering the limit,
puting in cameras and reviewing signage and where the road
changes from two to one carriageway.
I'm an advocate for healthy old people being allowed on the
roads .. and if health checks suggest it ...sometimes restricted
to hours and types of roads All people need to drive more
safely, expect to share the roads with flawed human beings and
remember those who have the most accidents are people in their
twenties.

That is actually true.
I just can´t help noticing that Philip looks very frail, and it
is natural to assume that it was on him, but I may be very, very
wrong.

I've just read that there was no protection officer with Philip
at the time - which is not what the
first report stated.
Someone who heard him at the scene, after being pulled out of
his crashed car, states that Philip
said that the sun flashed badly in his eyes and another motorist
said that the sun was terrible.
So it might not be a matter of age but rather a sudden problem
with sun in the eyes that any
driver of any age could experience. It might be that Philip was
at fault but it doesn't mean that
he failed because of his age necessarily though, I agree, he
appears older.
It's fortunate that no one was killed. Two women injured and a
baby unharmed.

I've just seen this...Princess Anne's reaction when a reporter
asked about her father:
“How is the Duke of Edinburgh this morning?” the journalist
asked on Friday, January 18, while the princess, 68, arrived at
an event.
“I’ve no idea,” Prince Philip and Queen Elizabeth II’s only
daughter replied. “You know where I am? Same place as you.”

Latest news says the traffic accident has taken quite a toll on
Philip. He's still mentally unsettled by the experience and
seems much more frail since it happened. Can't say as I blame
him...I'd react the same way if it happened to me, and I'm
nowhere near 97 years old.

I wish this didn´t happen. We need calm times in that family
right now! Poor Philip, poor Elizabeth.
My father, when he was a young man, almost drove over a little
boy who came racing out on a little tricycle in front of his
car. It was allegedly very, very close.
That experience never left my father. I don´t think it has
anything to do with age.

Philip has surrendered his driving license.. he will hate that
little independence gone from him.
