It was inevitable but the passing of HMTQ feels surreal. A
constant and mainstay has fallen. My condolences to all those
who loved her and tried to fill her life with joy, especially in
her twilight years. I didn't expect to feel this [emoji20].
The rainbows: even nature paid its tribute to one of its
extraordinary creations - the grandest of sendoffs.
The cartoon with HMTQ, Paddington and the fallen sandwich, no
longer needed, was just [emoji174].

A friend of mine in the US asked me to buy her some french
newspapers with the Queen on it.
It was an unexpected request which I could easily take care of.
So I did.
Am I glad she came up with this request. I had a real "WOW"
moment right there.
It was quite something to pick the Newspapers and to realize
that all the papers (bar the evening papers which were already
in the presses when the Queen's death was announced), every
single one of them had the Queen on the front page.
Not just as the main headline, nope. As the only headline.

I watched a documentary in which it was said that she was
Elizabeth the Great because she never expected to be queen as a
child: she was unencumbered by the expectation that came from
entitlement. The marvelous relationship she had with one of
her Labour Prime Ministers, Harold Wilson is the stuff of
legend.

I just realised that I saw the Robert Lacey aka Netflix version

and HMTQ's relationship:

In summary, unlike her previous PMs, HW had a working class
background. He treated HMTQ as an equal and not someone of
inferior education (he was an Oxford don): HMTQ IIRC regretted
her lack of formal education. Her weekly meeting with her PM
helped her gain a better understanding of working class GB and
were sessions for intellectual discourse, without judgement. By
many indications, HW was a monarchist. After Churchill (more
father figure), he was probably her favourite PM. She was
apparently devastated when he resigned due to speculated
illness.
I am curious about Hugo Vickers writings on the HW-HMTQ
relationship and will post if I find more.
