Latest reports are saying the continuing Covid-19 situation
means that the queen will probably never be able to return to
active royal life. It has effectively retired her, making
Charles the defacto monarch from here on out. If true, I wonder
if he officially will be named Regent.

Yes, it is sad...but the story has a ring of truth to it. It's
starting to look like we may never return to life the way we
once knew it. The queen's age certainly would prevent her from
safely interacting with a large number of people, and a reigning
monarch's job is physically demanding at the best of times. I
just hope they come up with a solution that will keep the queen
safe.

I wonder how they will work that. Being a royal involves a lot
of personal appearances and Charles already had one brush with
Covid. I'm sure hugs and handshaking will be eliminated, sadly.

Yes. If nothing else, it will certainly distance the royals
from the public. I'd guess it might add encouragement to the
anti-monarchy groups. Do you suppose it will help bring about a
British republic?
