I'm late to the Iceland Independent Day Party!
I'm still following what's going on with the volcano site,
unbelievable actually and still fascinating what happens there
everyday and how the area changes and changes...

I wish that volcano would just go away! Soon it has devoured the
southern coast road - a newly fixed road.
It will also cover fibernet, which Wifi-connects Iceland to
Europe. They dug the cables deeper down and cross fingers that
it will be good.
It will also take a farm - and if it goes on, who knows what
else.
I don´t like it.

That's of course terrible. I hope they can secure everything
possible. For the farm it's horror. And when the road is
destroyed/blocked will people be able to reach the area on the
(then) other side from this direction at all?

There is a town with 3,300 inhabitants on the south coast.
Grindavík. There is another road to the town fortunately.

i feel so sorry for the people affected by the volcano and those
owning the farm.

I feel bad for them too. At least they know what is coming and
have plenty of time to move. Unlike other eruptions around the
world - even in Iceland. A town on an island south of Iceland,
Vestmannaeyjar, was caught by surprise in the middle of the
night in 1973, when an explosive volcano went off.
Most were evacuated, but not all, and many homes were buried in
lava. They did manage though, to save their natural harbour by
diverting the lava with water cannons!
