Glad he got a haircut. Not crazy about the two suits he's
modeling. If this is his way of doing his own thing, more power
to him I guess. But he still looks a little silly.

Well well well Nicolai has dropped out of his two year training
course with the army. I guess he’ll model full time now. I’m
sure Joachim will be disappointed as he was so proud of Nicolai
entering in the army. It’s reported on the danish newspapers

I just heard.
They do not give a reason.
I don´t care if Jokke is disappointed, I just hope that Nicolai
will find something he really wants to do. Modelling seems to me
such a superficial and short term career.
But, take your time, young man. Cant blame you!

Perhaps the two year army training was more Jokke's idea than
Nikolai's. Is he not going to university?

somehow, i am not surprised.
read on another board that nikolai expected to be able to come
and go to do his own stuff whenever he wanted. when he was told
no he said he'd find a way. it looks like this didn't happen.
i guess that like the rest of the DRF he grew up with a sense of
entitlement (consciously or unconsciously) and is used to see
things smoothed out for him. and why wouldn't he, since this is
all he's known and seen.
to be clear, i have no issue with him quitting him. maybe that
he should have done what william and harry did, i.e. take a gap
year before deciding about what he wants to do.

Very well put, Cara.
That is what he has seen since he was born - exactly what you
describe.
It will be a tough transition to "real life" for those royal
kids. Only Christian will have those privileges.
Him quitting so soon makes me worried about all of them, but
hopefully they will prove themselves capable of coping.

he is young. i hope he'll find his way and i hope it's not
modeling. i hope that he will find something really meaningful
for him to do. not sure he'll succeed because he was born into a
family with extraordinary privileges which makes it all the
harder to find your way in life -> as in get a real job.
i can't help seeing a pattern with how this unfolded. it reminds
me of the PR that surrounded Alex and her work intentions. i
never had the feeling that she was going to go back to a regular
job (i also think that it was totally unrealistic to expect that
of her).
i get the sense that nikolai entering into the army was yet
another PR move, something to make him and the DRF look like a
serious committed person. i do not think that he (or them)
thought that he would have to abide to mr. everybody's rules.
not blaming nikolai at all. he's young and as the oldest of the
grandchildren, there's much more pressure and scrutiny on him.
i guess what i like the least is that he/they said that he would
do a two year training course and he quit after a few weeks and
my sense it's because he realized that he will have to abide by
the rules, not the other way around.

Your parents are your role models. You see time and time again,
if children grow up with parents who do not work, but get
through life on benefits, so will (most of) the children when
they grow up.
They have seen no work ethics growing up and simply don´t know
how that works.
The royal family has immense privilege, the children are
accustomed to that - it will be a hard blow to all of them when
they realize they have to actually work.

Actually Nicolai´s move is a bit problematic pr wise.
Denmark has a new legislation concerning education. Students
cannot switch education, Well, they can, but then they will lose
their SU, which is the government money they receive as
students.
Of course you can switch, but then you have to pay for your own
upkeep. Only children of very rich parents have that option,
really.
So the signal his quitting sends to the population of Denmark is
problematic.
Especially since Jokke is very unpopular in Denmark.

Two years seems like such a long time when one is twenty. It's
not and I think Nikolai will regret leaving. It gave him some
privacy as well as a chance to learn independent living skills.
Unless he has health issues, I think it seems problematic too.
