Thank you, Clover and Chris.
The star on my tree is actually for a bigger tree, but it is the
only one I have. Donīt want a big tree this year, since we will
be going to holiday house right after Christmas.
My decoration is typically Danish, except for the light chain.
Danes have CANDLES on the trees!!!! I would never do that, there
are so many fires because of that.
In Iceland no candles, only light chains.
It is funny with the different decoration traditions from
country to country. I know a little bit about the history of the
Icelandic tradition from my mother.
It is half and half American and European and also with a splash
of Russian.
In Europe we use real trees, I believe in America artificial
trees are common. In Iceland we import the live trees from
Norway, but one year way back, because of weather I guess, they
did not make it to Iceland.
We had an American military base, so through them we got plastic
trees, and that stuck with some.
The Russian influence comes from a lack of stars to put on top.
We buy oil from Russia, so tank ships come regularly. Someone
must have asked them to bring some top decorations for the
trees, so they did. They are not stars, but those Russian domes.
So half use those domes, half the stars, half plastic, half real
trees, but only light chains, often coloured - in Denmark almost
100% white.
Found a picture of one of those domes by googling.

Thank you Tiger and Abs. Love your Christmas trees.
And WOW Abs. I had never thought of those domes as Russian. That
is what we have always used at home in France... so I thought of
them as... French. But they do remind you of the Russian church
domes, soooo now I want to know more about their origin.
I personally use a star to top my tree.

I googled Russian Christmas tree - and some have stars, some
those domes.
I am not sure about the origin, just know Iceland got them from
Russia originally.
They DO look like Russian church domes. I had no idea France
used them too. But there have been some Russian-French
connections historically, so it all adds up.
We also always used stars in my family, would feel wrong with a
dome.

Interesting about the star/domes, never thought about that. We
always have "domes" on top of our tree.

As always, I love it when we start comparing how we celebrate
holidays. In the US, about half use artificial trees and half
have real trees. I always had a real tree until two or three
years ago when I got tired of sweeping up dried pine needles
from the floor and carpet from January to March. Now we have a
large artificial tree that looks almost real. Much cleaner!
Some people have a star, some have domes, and some have angels
on top of their tree. I always have a star, but my son and his
family have an angel made by my grandson in preschool...made out
of a blue oven mitt and the outline of his footprint! It sounds
awful, but it's sweet. I also always have Danish flags on my
tree in memory of a dear Danish friend.

That angel doesn't sound awful, I would like to have it!!!
Danish flags!
I forgot that, in Denmark really many decorate their trees with
flags. They are red and white so they do look "christmasy".
I had no idea those domes were common around the world. I only
saw them in Iceland, never in Denmark, everyone has stars here.
