COUGH SYRUPS
By: Custodian Date: March 23, 2019, 9:56 pm
---------------------------------------------------------
All these dose at a tablespoon for big kids and adults, a
teaspoon for kids.
Cough Syrups
Spicy Honey
2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar
2 tablespoons honey
2 tablespoons water
1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
1/4 teaspoon ground ginger
(*Pleurisy root optional)
(*Pseudoephedrine/ehpedrine optional)
(*Codiene or laudanum optional)
Place all the ingredients in a small jar and shake to combine.
Leave at room temperature for a few days or place in the
refrigerator for longer storage. Shake well each time, before
using.
The spices will not dissolve into the liquid.
It will not be a thick syrup, it should remain watery.
Pineapple honey
2 thick slices of fresh pineapple, peel removed, but core intact
(about two good cups)
1 Tbsp honey
1/2 tsp cayenne pepper (omit or reduce for children)
a thumb sized piece of fresh ginger, peeled and sliced or rough
chopped
juice of 1 lemon
(*Pleurisy root optional)
(*Pseudoephedrine/ehpedrine optional)
(*Codiene or laudanum optional)
Cinnamon honey
4 tbsp hot water
2 tbsp apple cider vinegar
2 tbsp honey
1/2 tsp cayenne pepper
1/2 tsp ground ginger
1/2 tsp cinnamon
(*Pleurisy root optional)
(*Pseudoephedrine/ehpedrine optional)
(*Codiene or laudanum optional)
Pineapple by itself is considered a cough syrup, in urgent
situations.
*Pleurisy root increases oxgen and is expectorant. Should be
calculated @3 drops extract/Tblsp
*Pseudoephidrine should be calculated @30mg/Tblsp (or) 1 tsp
strong extract
- pseudoephedrine/ephedrine are the COPD treatment and added
when drying and to cope with histamine reaction.
*Codeine should be calculated @5mg/Tblsp (or) 10g plant
material, extracted (or) 6 drops laudanum
- Laudanum/Codeine are added to suppress harsh, non productive
cough, be anti-inflammatory and induce rest.
BUT they can contribute to congestion & pneumonia. Typically,
alternating syrups helps a lot and prevents that.
*All additives can be given separately with the standard syrup,
so you don't have to make 12 versions like "Robitussin" does.
