ROMS 16.66: A Clue Before Dying (Cluedo ROMS)
General Rules
- This game is moderated by Furare and Aethera21. Any decisions
made by the moderators throughout the game are to be considered
final.
- You may PM the moderators with a question at any time, and one
of them will respond as soon as possible. You may NOT post a
screenshot or direct quote of any such response in the thread.
- Barring exceptional circumstances, lynches reveal status,
while bans conceal it. "Status" refers to both
alignment and role, if any.
- Out-of-thread communication between living players is
restricted to rogue forums only, except where this restriction
is explicitly waived. (This applies only to communication of
game-relevant information.)
- The use of anonymous forum alt accounts to post information to
the thread is strictly prohibited.
- Dead players may not post in the live thread unless they have
permission from the moderator to do so. Death scenes are exempt
from this restriction.
Activity
- "Days" or lynching periods last 72 hours.
"Nights" or banning periods last 12 hours.
- During the Day players may post freely. Nights are quiet. Any
content posts occurring in the Night must be deleted.
- Players are expected to post at least once a Day (72 hours).
Anyone who has not posted for a whole Day cycle will be
considered inactive and removed.
- If there are replacements available, the inactive player will
be replaced at the next Daybreak.
- If there are no replacements available, the inactive player
will be removed and their status revealed.
- ROMS is a time commitment. Do not sign up if you do not at
least intend to play whatever alignment you are given.
Voting
- If at the end of the Day 50% or more of the living players
have voted, the player with the most votes will be lynched.
- Votes must be in bold type and set on a new line to be valid -
e.g.:
Vote: Furare
- It is not necessary for a vote change to be preceded by an
unvote. At the end of the Day, your most recent valid vote will
be counted.
- There will be no proxies permitted for this game.
Roles and Roleclaiming
- This is a role-light Open Setup game. "Open Setup"
means that the list of roles present in the game will be given
out prior to the start of the game.
- This list is below, along with the text of their corresponding
PM:
Exploration
- Exploration is a normal Night action and precludes any other
actions from being taken. This means if you have a role, you may
choose EITHER to use your role power OR to explore. If you are a
rogue, you may not perform the ban and explore in the same
Night, though you may have rogue team powers used on you.
- Any player may choose to explore by sending a PM or email to
the moderator saying where they want to search.
- Players may acquire Power Items and Clue Fragments through
their efforts at exploration:
A Power Item confers a one-use ability upon the holder. If it
has a specific Night action component, this may only be used by
forfeiting any other actions the player would otherwise be able
to take. No player may hold more than one of these at a time.
A Clue Fragment has no inherent power. However, if enough
Fragments are found and held by innocent players, the town will
gain a boon; conversely, if enough Fragments are found and held
by rogues, the rogue team will gain a boon.
Behaviour
- This is a game. Please try not to take things personally, and
don't make personal attacks on others.
- Please do not bring up RL connections between players
(including between yourself and another player) as part of an
argument.
- If a discussion has turned into an argument or fight, take a
break from the thread and calm down. You do not have to have
the last word.
- If you are unsure whether a course of action falls within the
spirit of the rules, please ask the moderators for clarification
before doing whatever it is.

This shows an interesting thing I noticed on proboards, where
the text is copied from. When you quote a post with nested
quotes there, it seems to strip out the third "pyramid" level -
notice the role descriptions are missing.

> No one ever looks at the servants; a domestic's cap and apron
is one of the easiest ways to render oneself invisible. Not
that this upsets you. Quite the contrary, in fact - you learned
long ago that you could use it to your advantage. Now there are
killers in the house, perhaps you could even gain an edge in the
investigative stakes. You've taken to following the guests when
they wander into places where they don't belong, in the hope of
discovering something interesting... or incriminating. This is
*your* house, after all, and it's up to you to keep the guests
in line now.

> Mrs. Peacock (Watcher)
> A woman of your years (thirty-nine, if anyone asks) always
knows best. Of course, such impeccable taste and fine judgement
can be a burden, but you've always tried your best to use them
in the interests of society. A well-chosen word can have a
great effect on a misguided young person, and you're always
happy to help out. You keep close watch on the behaviour of
others, so you always know what to say to avert the horror of
scandal. In the present crisis, the stakes are rather higher
than usual, but your skills are honed and ready. You might even
be able to catch a murderer in the act!
--- End Quote ---

> Mr. Green (Hider)
> You're a careful, quiet man, preferring a book and cup of tea
by the fire to being out and about in the world. This trip
seemed like such a good idea - a peaceful house in a respectable
part of town, the promise of a large library full of classics.
Who would have expected the result? All this violence, and all
the suspicion! It's just not cricket. You've resolved to just
keep your head down until things blow over. Each Night, you may
send a PM to the moderators with the name of a player you wish
to hide behind. All actions targeted at you will fail, but if
your target is killed, you will share their fate.
--- End Quote ---
--- Quote ---
> Col. Mustard (Bodyguard)
> You've always been a man of action. Sitting around and
watching while guests get picked off by villains too cowardly to
show their faces - why, that makes your blood boil. If these
murderers don't have the stuffing to go after a real man, then
you'll go after them instead! Protecting the weak is an
honourable soldier's instinct, so you are prepared to guard one
of your fellow guests every Night, hoping to catch or at least
deter a would-be killer.
>
> The first time you successfully protect someone from a ban,
the protection is complete and the ban fails at no cost to you
or your protectee. On a second occasion, the rogues will be
ready for you, and you will be slain instead of their intended
target.

> Miss Scarlet (Roleblocker)
> From a young age, you've known your greatest strengths, and
how to exploit the weaknesses of others. Men (and women) have
always been easily persuaded by your arsenal of feminine wiles -
a strategic pout here, a little leg shown there, a shoulder to
cry on at the proper moment. As you've matured, you've
discovered you can change the course of a night's events, or
even of history, if you distract the right person at the right
time. Choose your target carefully.

batty old ladies, stuffy Anglo-Indian military types, ageing

renowned Dr. Black, can't boast a mind to match yours. How
disappointing. You get positively sick of it sometimes, being
the smartest one in the room. Your mind wanders, and you get...
ideas. The concept of a real murder disrupting a Murder Party
amused you greatly when you first devised it, and it's no less
amusing now that the plot is in motion. Nothing like a little
murder and mayhem to spice up a dull soiree, after all.
>
> You're not blinded by your own brilliance, though; you're

studying people is your speciality; with close enough
observation you could pinpoint these threats and eliminate them
at your leisure.

façade. Inviting one such as you to a murder party... that was
never going to turn out well, now, was it?

> Guests began arriving early in the morning, and the staff were
busy in the kitchens and laundries, setting everything just so.
The whole lobby was cream-colored, shot through here and there
with fine details in a rich, dark brown. A hint of warm vanilla
lightly scented the inn's trappings, subtle enough to be
unnoticed until it was fractured by the sharp citrus tang of
lime.

who was more accustomed to wearing a welcoming smile. "Guests,
a moment please. I have some terrible news. The grain
merchant, Demeter, who supplies...supplied...many of our
kitchen's needs, has been murdered, not half an hour after
making her morning delivery. The constables have informed me
that no one may leave until the investigation is complete.
Please be cautious -- they fear the killer is in our very
midst!"

look around at each other, and wonder.

Game on! Your first deadline is Monday, July 23, at 7:30 AM.
Night 1 ends Tuesday, July 24, at 1:30 AM.
Day 2 ends Friday, July 27, at 1:30 AM.
Night 2 ends Friday, July 27, at 7:30 PM.
Day 3 ends Monday, July 30, at 5:30 PM.
Night 3 ends Tuesday, July 31, at 1:30 PM.
Day 4 ends Friday, August 3, at 1:30 PM.
Night 4 ends Saturday, August 4, at 7:30 AM.
Day 5 ends Tuesday, August 7, at 7:30 AM.
The Basics
- This game is pure vanilla extract, no artificial flavorings,
no preservatives, no roles, no items. Just the town and the
rogues in a battle of wits. Come armed.
Day/Night Cycle
- Days will be 72 hours. Nights will be 18 hours. All times are
in Pirate Time, unless the moderator, who lives on Mountain
Time, forgets to subtract an hour. Deadlines should fall at one
of 7:30am, 1:30pm, 7:30pm, or 1:30am. Someone from the Dead
Thread may be recruited to mark that 1:30am deadline.
Communication
- You may post at night. Night posts are encouraged to be
entertaining and light.
- The rogue team may communicate outside the thread.
- Other out-of-thread communication about the game is prohibited
among live players.
- Rogues may create a separate forum account from which to post
bans if they choose, or they may submit the ban through the
moderator to be announced at Daybreak.
- Early post of the ban by the rogues will not make the sun rise
any faster.
- Lynches will reveal status; bans will not.
- Players posting death or survival scenes will receive a
limited edition ROMS XVI avatar. The moderator makes no claims
as to her artistic ability.
- Dead players and non-participants may follow along in the Dead
Thread. Dead Thread information may not be shared outside the
Dead Thread.
Voting
- In order to lynch, 50% + 1 of players must vote. The player
(or Abstain) in the lead by 1 vote or more will be lynched. If
there is a tie, there will be no lynch.
- Votes must contain either "Vote:" or "Unvote:".
Capitalization is optional, the colon is not. Bold and/or red
text for a vote is appreciated, but not required, as the
moderator will be using the "Ctrl-F for 'vote:'" method of
counting. Please try to leave the colon out when discussing
votes, making joke votes, or quoting posts that include votes.
- To change your vote, you must first unvote any current vote.
Inactivity and Proxies
- ROMS is a time commitment. Dropping out of a game creates an
imbalance and damages the game for the other players.
- Any player that fails to post or communicate an absence for
one Day/Night or Night/Day cycle will be declared inactive and
fed to a volcano modkilled. If a replacement is available, the
inactive player will be replaced.
- No proxies.
- Should you need to resign, please send the moderator a PM. If
a replacement is available, the resigning player will be
replaced.
- Status of inactive or resigning players who are not replaced
will be revealed on odd numbers, hidden on even numbers.
Game End
- The game ends with a rogue win when the number of rogues is
equal to the number of innocents.
- The game ends with a town win when all rogues are elminated.
Behavior
- As a ROMS player, you may be accused of lying or other
nefarious rogue-like actions in the course of the game. Please
remember that this is part of the game, and try not to take it
personally.
- Just because people should try not to take gameplay personally
does not mean others are free to act like jackanapes. Do not
make it personal by use of insult or other obnoxiousness.
(Parts of the rules have been shamelessly lifted from previous
games.)
PMs
The innocents received the following PM:
--- Quote ---
>
You check into your room, puzzled by the tense feeling
that was so prevalent in the lobby. For people on vacation,
everyone seemed unnaturally stressed. On the table, a single
scoop of vanilla ice cream perches next to an airy slice of
angel's food cake. Reaching out, you pick up a fork. The cake
and ice cream are delicious, but you wonder a bit about how they
manage to deliver it just in time to keep it from melting.
--- End Quote ---
Beware, INNOCENT, for here there be monsters.
(Please reply, so I know this reached everyone.)
The rogues received the following PM:
--- Quote ---
>
You check into your room, puzzled by the tense feeling

everyone seemed unnaturally stressed. On the table, a single

a faint green light. Reaching out, you pick up a fork. If
you're going to be a ROGUE, you may as well enjoy it.
--- End Quote ---
You are the ROGUE team. You may decide among yourselves what
method of communication you wish to use, though your moderator
has a marked preference for forum style as opposed to Google doc
style. If you wish to use a forum, you may set it up yourself
adding each of your fellow rogues and yours truly, or I will be
happy to set it up for you.
other factions, not so much) for my absence in the thread. I was
away last weekend, but I THOUGHT I was going to have far more
time to post than I actually did. To cut a long story short, I
spend the weekend trying to hang out with one group of people
while simultaneously worrying about a close friend of mine who's
going through a very hard time, which culminated in an
intervention being held on Monday. In addition to all of this, I
helped another set of friends move, visited a third and fourth
set of friends (at different times), attended my annual family
reunion picnic, and got raked over the coals by my mom for not
living up to her perfect image of who I should be. I'm also
informed that I slept for periods of time in there, although I
will not absolutely swear to this, since I suspect that what is
being said is 'sleep' was actually 'passing out'.

>
The rest of the post means that the first
sentence wasn't a gut part at all -- it was an introduction for
the very not-gut based rest of the post. It could have come at
the end and been a conclusion based on the presented evidence
instead of an introduction, but it is in no way separate from
the rest of the paragraph it opens. It's "this is off because of
this stuff" not "this is off and this other stuff."
--- End Quote ---
Firstly, I disagree that the rest of that post means the first
sentence wasn't a gut part. Rereading Goats' post again just to
be sure, it seems to me that Goats read Riku's posts and said to
himself "hmm, that seems off" and then did some research to try
to figure out why that seemed off. I am not saying that Goats
lacked evidence or justification, but those justifications very
clearly seem to have accrued as a means of explaining Goats'
gut.
You assert that that same statement could have come at the end
of the post as well as the beginning. I agree. But this only
serves to reinforce the relevance of the ordering. If Goats had
placed that sentence last, his post would have read "these
things make me think Riku is suspicious; and also he seems off".
That is actually a very different set of statements because it
says that Goats noticed logical inconsistencies first and then,
upon further review, also had a niggling gut feeling. Instead,
Goats writes "Riku seems off; I looked into it and found these
logical inconsistencies". The ordering of Goats' post shows
cause and effect, and it's clear to me that the gut came first.
----------------------------------

Oooh, I've been voted! The ROMS
game has officially begun :) It's fun to trace my evolution as a
player among this community. In the early days, I was voted for
being too persuasive, such as the time of the infamous doubel
lynch. Then later, I was voted for being too aggressive and
vocal, such as in the times when Sasha and I were having regular
knock-down drag-out fights in forum threads. These days, I'm
being voted for being... wait for it...
This isn't even
countering my argument, it's just making fun of it. :P Anyway,
there you go: if you're generally seen as vocal, aggressive, and
persuasive, it's hardly strange that I feel something is amiss
when you are quiet and abstract.
Although I was using a lighthearted and humorous tone, I was
pointing out the arc of my growth as a player leads to what you
dignify as "quiet and abstract" as a natural evolution of
"vocal, aggressive and persuasive". We are all shaped by our
environment. Vocal, aggressive and persuasive Lyaka wasn't
always fun to be around or play with. *I* didn't even always
enjoy her company, so why should it surprise you that she's
growing past some of her less positive behaviors?

I realize that you haven't
played with me since those days, but I respectfully submit that
it's been quite a long time, and I would like to think I have
experienced some measure of personal growth.
For certain.
I didn't mean it that way at all and I wouldn't expect that
playstyle-I just wouldn't expect this one either.
Well, I know none of us are exactly overflowing with spare time,
but should you find yourself with a free evening and nothing
better to do, I recommend ROMS13.33 and XIV: High Security. I
was a vanilla innocent in those games, and you can see that
"quiet and abstract" Lyaka (also called the "New Lyaka") is not
an artifact of this game particularly. Whether that makes me a
rogue or an innocent in this game is left as an exercise to the
reader :)
----------------------------------
Hmm, interesting. I'm reading along in the thread later and I
encounter The_Jokerina quoting AhoyLindsay as follows:
It's not that she's noncommital (on
suspicions, not necessarily on meta) or that she doesn't want to
vote yet, it's that the early phrases I pointed out seemed to be
intentionally those things.
The interesting thing is that, since the above quote lacks
proper nouns, I erroneously thought for a moment that AL was
talking about me.
Reading onwards, The_Jokerina's response clearly showed that AL
was talking about Jokerina, not about me at all. And maybe
that's just my massive ego talking (everyone must be talking
about me RIGHT GUYS RIGHT). But AL DID say something similar
about me:
She's been sticking to
noninflammatory meta things, like item strategy and whether
there are neutral factions (and I also can't help but think that
it would be nice for the rogues if all the items were gotten out
of the way immediately, when they'll do less damage-even if one
caught a rogue, so early on it would be difficult to connect
that rogue back to others. Plus, probabilities are currently
less for them [as far as chances of getting affected by an item]
than they would/will be once the rogues have killed off some
townies). She's been pretty calm so far, and it looks like she
might be hoping to glide by for a few rounds without attracting
too much attention.
Leaving aside for the moment that AL apparently hates hates
HATES proper nouns (and that's going to get annoying fast during
thread rereads), I realized that AL's major contributions to the
thread so far, if they can be called that, are so generic and so
meta-heavy (in some cases about generic meta discussions, which
is like double meta) that I feel like I could play Mad Libs with
his posts and no one would be the wiser. It spurred me to go
back and take a closer look at his contributions to the thread
so far.

Two topics. First, discusses Dwizzles and Argemone booches.
Second, a player I'm thinking of as "Joe":
because he seems to backing off from his original
statement about Phoe (from "there's no good reason to do that as
an innocent" to "I don't mean to imply that she's a rogue"). To
some extent it's just clarifying, but then the addition of
As to Phoe in specific, the "Suspicious of
everyone" is very true to form for her. I don't remember a
specific case of C&Ping the player list, but it's just a
variation on her standard. I'm not jumping to suspicion, but I
don't have a problem watchlisting her.
Reads to me as
trying to balance out his earlier moves, in order to not seem as
if he is jumping too quickly. Watchlist there.
That quote isn't edited at all to remove the name of the player
AL is discussing. Can anyone name Joe's correct identity without
going back through the thread? It'll be difficult, since as far
as I can tell discussion of Joe never recurs.
Posted by AhoyLindsay at May 24, 2012 5:04:30 PM Off-Topic
Discussion of DC. Then comments on something solely to say he is
holding off commenting until another player (Nalanthi) comments
first. Yes, the context of the thread at the time is that
someone had asked Nalanthi a question about something Nalanthi
had said, so Nalanthi's comments are absolutely relevant. But
two things. One, just because Nalanthi will doubtless have
something relevant to say is no reason to stay quiet. Remember
the Innocent Mantra: "ALL INFORMATION ALL THE TIME". Two, as far
as I can tell, AL never DOES comment.
Posted by AhoyLindsay at May 24, 2012 5:51:04 PM Now we're on to
a new person, "Amy". Why? Because (quoting "Amy" twice to
support his point)
makes twice that she has
commented on small issues at hand without actually saying if she
is suspicious of the people in question.
discussion of Amy. Discusses attitude further, saying
She could easily say that it worries her because
it's not attitude she wants townies to take, but that it doesn't
necessarily mean he's a rogue. With the two posts I quoted,
"Amy" could plausibly claim them to be suspicion or not
suspicion (whereas my "looking at", while not an outright "FoS",
could not in context be reasonably interpreted as something
other than a level of suspicion).
Master for a "sudden, ill-founded" vote against MrB. Meta
analysis follows on the interplay of Master and MrB with regard
to pressure votes, convenient targets, and avoiding attention.
Then back to Amy.
She's said that she agrees and
disagrees with certain playing strategies (ex: agrees with
pressure voting, disagrees with extrapolating from one's own
playstyle), but she's declined to suspect anyone thus far and
also declined to say whether she intends to abstain, vote, or
not vote. This manner of posting would be advantageous for a
rogue, because they can avoid taking hard stances and instead
decide what opinion/action would be safe based on how the wind
blows later on. Thus, FoS.
I know you suspect someone, but from that, I don't know who.
(Earlier in the post, Amy's correct forum name is actually
mentioned, which is a step up at least.)
Posted by AhoyLindsay at May 26, 2012 1:47:34 PM
She's been sticking to noninflammatory meta things,
like item strategy and whether there are neutral factions (and I
also can't help but think that it would be nice for the rogues
if all the items were gotten out of the way immediately, when
they'll do less damage-even if one caught a rogue, so early on
it would be difficult to connect that rogue back to others.
Plus, probabilities are currently less for them [as far as
chances of getting affected by an item] than they would/will be
once the rogues have killed off some townies).
She's been pretty calm so far, and it looks like she might be
hoping to glide by for a few rounds without attracting too much
attention. FoS there.
Pop quiz: Are we still talking about Amy here?
This might be my favorite post by AL. Here follows the entire
contents of the post:
@Marinated:
The thing with her original post was when it was later combined
with this response to one of my suspicions: [quote="Unattributed
in the original"]For me, it is very early to start pointing
people as rogues.
She said she would consider voting if
someone was suspicious enough, but then didn't want to say
whether she thought any people suspicious, which made her
earlier stance less meaningful.
I legitimately have no idea about whom we're talking here. Might
be Amy, might be someone completely different. Nothing in the
post gives me a clue, and to save you all the trouble, nothing
in the immediately surrounding posts does either. I'd have to
search the printable thread for that specific quote and/or
Marinated's post to figure out what's going on here.
Posted by AhoyLindsay at May 26, 2012 8:00:10 PM This is the
post later quoted by Jokerina, where we get this:
It's not that she's noncommital (on suspicions, not
necessarily on meta) or that she doesn't want to vote yet, it's
that the early phrases I pointed out seemed to be intentionally
those things.
I find from this that Jokerina's quote actually snips the
preceding sentence, which would have disambiguated the quote
more:
Here's the thing with Jokerina. It's not that she's
noncommital (on suspicions, not necessarily on meta) or that she
doesn't want to vote yet, it's that the early phrases I pointed
out seemed to be intentionally those things.
In this case, it's actually not hard to figure out about whom
AL's talking. Which is nice, but surprisingly rare.
Posted by AhoyLindsay at May 27, 2012 7:00:55 AM Four quotes
from three different people. Six sentences of own content.
Mentions the names of no fewer than eight players, not counting
himself. I think I found where all the proper nouns were hiding!
They were in this post all along. (Amy is not mentioned, just
for bonus fun points.)
Posted by AhoyLindsay at May 28, 2012 5:12:55 PM Kotetsu and
Lyaka are the subject of discussion here. For Kotetsu, gives the
following shiny rundown:
But when I boil it down, I can only conclude that
he
a) wants to be lynched
b) doesn't care if he's lynched
c) was extremely frustrated by yesterday's missed lynch
d) is having trouble handling suspicion/criticism without
over-reacting
e) is counting on sheer boldness to avoid the noose
These reasons could describe half the town.
Final post () is back to meta on Lyaka's Play Style:
It's not a would/wouldn't like from her
thing, it's a suspicion thing, y'know?
...no, I don't really know.
----------------
So what is that I'm trying to say with this wall of text? I was
prompted to reread AhoyLindsay because I confused the subject of
one of his posts. And what I found was that a lot of his
arguments are old, well-worn ROMS arguments that, frankly, fit
almost everyone at this point of the game. Although he has fixed
specific suspicion on three people- Joe, Amy and myself- the
reasons for this suspicion are almost entirely meta. Joe "seems
to backing off from his original statement about Phoe"; he
"reads to me as trying to balance out his earlier moves, in
order to not seem as if he is jumping too quickly." Amy "has
commented on small issues at hand without actually saying if she
is suspicious of the people in question", and "This manner of
posting would be advantageous for a rogue, because they can
avoid taking hard stances and instead decide what opinion/action
would be safe based on how the wind blows later on.". And Lyaka
has "been sticking to noninflammatory meta things, like item
strategy and whether there are neutral factions".
These arguments are as old as the hills. They fit any ROMS
player in the history of forever. Yes, some things are rogue
tells for a reason, but there's also a reason we don't railroad
lynch anyone who goes a few days without posting, confuses the
terms 'ban' and 'lynch', or fails to properly attribute quotes.
Because these things are relevant but not sufficient to prove
rogueness. I substituted the names "Amy" and "Joe" for those
real players to prove a point- that AL's reasons thus far are
generic, not specific to what people are actually doing in the
thread, and that's some rather shoddy rogue-huntin' right there.
----------------------------------
Kotetsu, whaaaaat.
Y'know what, firebolt, you really wouldn't be
much loss. You've posted no content and not voted.
Considering that this is the first thing I can recall Kotetsu
having done in the thread, isn't this a bit much?
Reading further, I see that this tartfest only grows. I'll avoid
commenting on the outright rudeness, as it seems to me nothing
is served by continuing to flog that particular horse after
Kotetsu's replacement. I will, however, add one thing that stuck
out to me:
I am trying to discern patterns. It is my
opinion that to catch rogues or give FOI, some sort of pattern
is needed. I can not discern any "rogue" pattern if they don't
post. So I am trying to forestall this by "pressure". They will
know if they don't post I might vote for them.
My god, the hypocrisy. "Guys, you need to post so I can find you
suspicious! This applies to everyone but me!" This is actually
worthy of an FoS, not just an FoH.
----------------------------------
Randomact, sorry to see you go. The thing that stuck in my head
from day one involving Randomact was that she brought us the
lovely Dwizzles, and also told Dwizzles that alignments and
roles were allocated via RNG, which information Dwizzles
promptly forgot in his haste to JMT the town ("I'm a newbie, so
I can't possibly have a role or be a rogue, nuh-uh, no sir, the
mods would never let that happen!")
WIFOM: The rogues banned Randomact because Dwizzles is a rogue
and they didn't want Randomact stepping on Dwizzles' toes
anymore.
WIFOY: The rogues would never be that obvious.
WIFOM: The rogues banned Randomact because Dwizzles is a rogue
and Randomact is the only one who knows Dwizzles well enough to
know his tells.
WIFOY: Or it could be because Randomact is the medium and have
nothing to do with Dwizzles whatsoever.
WIFOM: The rogues banned Randomact because Dwizzles is a rogue
and Randomact told Dwizzles she was the medium/Dwizzles knows
Randomact well enough to have deduced Randomact had a power role
of some sort and Dwizzles betrayed Randomact to the rogues!
WIFOY: ...yeah, I got nothing.
WIFOM: Not to mention that Dwizzles COMPLETELY ducked out of the
thread after I pointed out the whole RNG/JMT thing. No
justification? Lying low until the town forgets?
WIFOY: Yeah, yeah, I agreed already! It's really suspicious,
okay?
FoS: Dwizzles.

So you're openly
voting abstain in the hope of getting someone, anyone, lynched?
That's tantamount to giving a proxy to be picked up by whoever
wants it. Doing it openly doesn't make it any less
nefarious.
In a sense it is a proxy, though I hadn't thought about it that
way. I don't see where you come from calling it "nefarious",
however. The town must lynch to win. Lynching is the town's best
weapon. These are not new ideas, and my fidelity to them is as
old as ROMS itself. We have always been on different sides of
this issue, but this is the first time you've called those who
disagree with you "nefarious". Why the sudden escalation?
this also stuck out to me on a read through of
the previous Day's posts. I agree with marinated, you say you
haven't made a decision on who to vote for at that point, yet
you'll just say 'whoever can get to the lynch total with my
abstain vote can hang.' Watchlist
Let me put it another way. We haven't played together before so
you won't be familiar with a lot of the Lyaka-specific opinions
I glossed over in my original post due to lack of time.
I think that the town cannot win without lynching.
I think that lynching innocents, though regrettable, is the
price the town has to pay to gain new information, move out of
unhelpful patterns of behavior, and ultimately win the game.
I think that, in the absence of a compelling reason not to
lynch, the town should lynch.
At the end of Day One, it was my opinion that enough information
was present in the thread that the town could reasonably
conclude that someone might be a rogue. Let's call that player
Player X.
At the end of Day One, I personally had not read enough of the
thread in enough depth and seriousness to form an opinion of who
Player X might be.
However, and here's the key, it WAS my opinion that Player X
should be lynched.
I could not vote for Player X directly, because I did not know
who Player X was. However, by voting for Abstain, I was able to
cast what was, essentially, a wild-card vote. My Abstain vote
could count towards Player X without my needing to know who
Player X was.
Consequently, I voted for Player X.
Many people disagree with my stance that the town should vote;
this is a debate that's been raging since ROMS I. But from a
pro-lynch standpoint, an abstain vote- essentially, as Marinated
correctly observes, a proxy- is the right and natural thing to
do.
----------------------------------
TL;DR
* Sorry for being a bum; there was a lot going on, and I brought
you some words to try and make up for it.
* @Taelac: Order matters because order implies causality. The
order in Goats' post shows that the gut feeling came first and
then arguments were found to support it, instead of an argument
being built and a gut feeling emerging from the research.
* @AhoyLindsay: Meta about Lyaka's playstyle, with the upshot of
"This is just how I play now."
* A WALL OF TEXT OMG about AhoyLindsay, in which I contend that:
- AhoyLindsay's contribution to this thread has been almost
entirely composed of either direct meta or discussion about
other peoples' meta
- Were we to remove names from AL's posts, it would be
impossible to determine his subject of discussion, because AL is
only making extremely generic arguments that could fit any ROMS
player
* I join the chorus of disapproval for Kotetsu's abrasiveness,
and also find an avowed play strategy of "everyone needs to post
a lot but me" suspicious. FoS Kotetsu/Kate.
* FoS Dwizzles as a result of Randomact's bannination.
* @Marinated, DD and whomever else it may concern: I voted
abstain because
- I thought the town had enough information to suspect someone
(Player X) of being a rogue, and therefore the town should lynch
Player X
- I wasn't caught up enough to identify who Player X was to
vote for them directly
- An abstain vote is effectively a wildcard vote for Player X
(or viewed another way, a proxy)
- Therefore I voted for Player X by way of Abstain.

Phoenix: HUGS. MAJOR HUGS. SO MANY HUGS. Get better soon hon.
Yasmi: HUGS. MAJOR HUGS. SO MANY HUGS. Good luck with

Welcome kate.

Does anyone still have the old scripts we used to use to track
postcount? With so many players in the game and so much RL, I
find myself really, really wishing we had the postcount tables
going like they used to be back in the days of Wild Mango. I
would do my best to help keep it up-to-date if anyone still has
the code.
