ROMS 17.17: A Testing Time
DIR By: Furare

Just putting something in the game threads board so it doesn't
feel lonely, really.
Maybe a few updates:
[*]I checked a box that I think might allow regular users to
submit custom emotes, but I'm not sure how you'd do that. Poke
about and get back to me, if you're the sort of person who cares
about that.
[*]I think I disallowed regular users from seeing who's online.
I can't stop Administrators from being able to see, but I think
Tae pointed out on ProBoards that it'd be better for admins to
have one account for administration and one for actually
playing. (So I'd be Admin_Furare to do my wizardry and just
Furare to play the game. Or something.) Let me know if you can
still see who else is online because you really shouldn't be
able to anymore.
[*]There's a calendar function and I enabled it. At present
only admins can edit it; I think it probably ought to be open to
all registered users, so that game moderators don't also need to
be board admins in order to put their deadlines on there. Do
other people agree with that assessment?
I was also testing out the bullet point list function. :)

Calendar editabilty can maybe be set to a specific membergroup?
That might be general registered, players, game mods, or admins.
I think at least game mod level should be able to edit..

By the way, can you see who is online at the bottom of the main
page, or not? You shouldn't be able to but I don't know.

I think so. It only shows me online atm. :P
But I have the full info center. I'll ask Leif to sign on after
lunch.

Leif claims he's logged in atm, but it's still saying only I am.
So I guess it's sort of disabled?

Yeah, I disabled people from being able to see if other users
are logged in, though obviously admin accounts can see all
still. And you still get the look of the info centre; I thought
that ProBoards looked really weird with the whole info centre
removed.

If we pretended that admins would never log in on that account
when they were playing in a game...or lost their adminbility
during a game...
It's possible to create a board where posts don't contribute to
postcounts. This could be used for sub forums during a game for
some sort of teams. The game mod would be set to modify these
and they could be hidden from non-members.
I think it's fun to have a whole game story in one place, but I
understand the reason not to. I'm going to set up a few
different permission level boards to play. If you're around and
up for testing (or making additional accounts, I guess) we can
play with that.
Yeah, I like the power of this forum. Haven't figured out how
to upload things to it yet. (Like smile sets and themes.)

Turns out you're limited to one account per email address.

I get that it's exciting to be able to do a bunch of different
things with these forums, but I feel like it should be kept as
simple as possible, so we don't have things where admins can't
be admins while they're playing, or having a load of different
usergroups and permission levels to maintain. Having secret
stuff set up, while cool, seems like it's kinda asking for
something to go wrong. >.>

The membergroups are really simple to maintain, so I don't think
it adds complexity.
I've worked on forums with pretty complex tiers without problems
for years. But, that's my opinion. The "don't count posts
here" is pretty cool, but like I said, I understand that it may
not be something people want for whatever reason.
The biggest "flaw", I think, is player admins.
