A black pigeon with a band with numbers URC 8 10 and some more
that I can't see is hanging around our building. We are trying
to feed and water him but want him to go home. Please let me
know if this might be your pigeon.

URC 8 10 8920
he let me get a little closer this morning and I'm pretty sure
that is the number on his band - we fed him some bread and water
- any other advice regarding how to care for him?
what happens if no one claims him?

Hello Kate, in response to your email here goes: A domesticated
pigeon will not intentionally look for a "safe" place but will
look to roost just about anywhere convenient. Lost birds like
the one that has adopted you will continue to hang around until
either you stop feeding it and it flies off and dies or is taken
by a predator. Feed the bird pigeon food which most feed stores
will carry otherwise feed it chicken scratch and clean water
everyday. Do not feed the bird bread or pop corn used for
popping...
If no one claims him you can catch him and take him to the local
humane society where they will probably contact me and we will
do this all over again! ;) Or you can simply catch him and
place in a rabbit ype hutch and care for him yourself. :o
