is trapping mix (conditioning food) suitable to feed them on all
year round or should I change it after so long?

Hi Matty, what is trapping mix? Rollers will have different
dietary needs depending on if they are young or old kit birds,
breeders or birds in a holding pen. I suggest reading up on the
nutritional needs of pigeons and how to mix your own feed
rations to suit that. A good book to study but is expensive is
Levi's encyclopedia "The Pigeon". The knowledge contained
therein is invaluable if you are serious about your pigeons. I
highly recommend it.

it is a mixture of food including wheat, mung beans, black
rapeseed, safflower, rice, linseed, aniseed oil, cod liver oil,
white dari and red Dari. they seem to eat it all pretty fast

After 26 years raising rollers, I have come to the conclusion
that for my breeders, I like them to get a 100% ration of
pellets as it contains all the nutrition (14%ish of protein) to
grow squabs into nice full healthy robust young birds. Until my
kit birds are about 6 or 7 months old, I will include a
supplement of roughly of about 10% to 25% of pellets in their
diet with the balance made of up of chicken scratch (cracked
corn, wheat and milo).
My goal is to ensure plenty of protein to grow muscle, feather
and sinew during those critical first many months of life. After
this period, I reduce the quantity of pellets and up the scratch
mix. From there I will adjust the diet to amp up performance for
periods of time and then back to a flyer maintenance regimen.
For me, I don't see the value as much for feeding all the other
seeds when they are getting the diet they need from what I
already am providing them. I am not saying there is not
nutritional value but simply they are already on a good diet.
As long as the percentage of protein, carbohydrates and fat is
adequate, the birds will tend to do well. Course conditions and
climate may alter the diet. For example, during the cold winter
months, my kit birds and birds in separation pens receive more
corn as it is higher in fat and keeps the birds warmer during
those long cold winter nights. When I lived in California, this
was never a concern.

thanks for your advice :) basicly I built a kitbox for about 20
rollers and I got some rollers off my mate to start with, they
arnt really good flyers, they just seem to sit on my roof and
maybe fly for 5 minutes because he used to leave them out all
day. now they are on eggs so I was going to seperate my young
birds when they are old enough so I can train them instead of
them learning bad habits, is this a good idea? any tips?

There are an assortment of materials guys will put in the water.
I have always just used a bit of bleach in the water. No strong,
water should not have a bleach smell.
How about anyone else, use anything besides bleach in the water?

a friend told me he uses TCP and another said he uses chlorine
and apple cider vinegar

I use 20 mule team borax in the bath water. It works as louse
repellant and helps give the feathers a soft, clean luster. Once
in a while I add liquid sevin to bath water too.
