Early Rolling Ruby

I started flagging up a kit of Ruby Rollers thirty days ago and
one bird is rolling already. They are kitting very well. It
seams like this bird rolling is to young to be rolling already.
It is only 11 weeks old. It is rolling single rolls and seams to
have it under control for now. I have never had a bird start
rolling this early. I was wondering what your experiences have
been with birds that start rolling this early. In the past they
have started around 5 months old.

Hi Mike, I have found that the ones that start out with fast
single flips turn out to be some of the best. Keep watching it.
Before you know it it will start next with adding some depth.
You will also notice the velocity will be pretty good as well.

Thanks Tony That's good to hear!!!! I was thinking just the
opposite. The babies from the Ruby's you sold me are some of the
best kitting birds i have seen. Nice and tight kitting and only
took a week to get them to kit. Also no lazy birds at all in
this round. Can't wait to see them all rolling. I really like
the Ruby's!!!!!

Hey Mike, My Ruby's generally start around four to five months
but there is the rarer bird that will come in at three months.
Seek out birds that ether start by flipping or short continuous
rolling. Wing clapping and tail riding while still usable and
can develope into good birds are less desireable in my mind. At
this stage kitting is my main consideration, any bird that does
not kit no matter how good will not be used.

My Ruby's are kitting better then any other kit i have been
around ;D . I do have some that are tail riding, I will keep my
eye on them and hope for the best. I appreciate your input

Hey Mike, I did not mean that any bird that starts out tail
riding is a bad bird. I was trying to say, look for the bird
that starts out with a flip or more revolutions, they are some
of the best. BUT, they also can become some of the worst, if
they do not learn control quickly.

I understood what you meant about tail riding birds. Most of my
birds from my other family started out tail riding a little
before the actual rolled the first time and some turned out to
be my best birds. This is my first kit of baby Ruby's that i
have flown so i am new to their development stages. Sorry if my
last post was confusing. I always appreciate your input. Thanks

Hey Thom, I ageee totally with you. With one exception, I have
#ruby-08-mo-065 that I bought from Tony. I flew him two years
and now is my foundation cock. I have two witnesses his very
first roll was 30ft follwed by a forty footer that all but
brushed the ground. I know everyone is saying ROLLDOWN. But over
the next two years has developed in to a varying depth
roller.He can hit 40 when the kit is up around 300 feet but when
he is below 75-100 ft he shortens up to 10 feet. When landing he
does single flips. I breed him in 09 and put him back in the
kit. Same thing in 2010. I stocked him in 2011. Results every
Ruby in my A team is either a son or daughter or garnd child of

Hey Ron, I hope all has been well with you!!! I don't think we
are in disagreement. If they survive that brush then they can
learn but if they hit something hard it is a done deal! :)
