Lice and flees

some one may be can help: My friend who lives behind me , came
ridding up on his golf cart, all hiper about his pigeons,
especially one squab on the ground of his breeder pin, which is
on dirt floor. He ask me to come and see. Well the little bird
appeared to have fleas all on his head and around the eyes.I've
never seen such. We sprayed pereatiean ( spelling ?) on the
fleas, but they didn't just fall off, i took my pocket knife and
scraped, they were dug in. Anyway then we started looking at
other birds, found just a couple or so, not that badly infested.
Not sure what is is. I thought maybe chiggers, fleas I think
they are the same, but very small. We checked his kit birds and
found no fleas, but found something under wings like a tiny worm
about 1/4" long and hard to remove. There again I'd never seen
such. Kind of washed out beige color. I helped him spray
everything in pen roost etc. Then i hurried home to check my
birds, mine seem to be ok. They get a bath in water with little
bit of bleach, some time vinegar, sometime with Perethine. Has
any one witness this? Beats me. Comments welcomed . chesley,
valdosta, ga

THE LAST ONES SOUND LIKE LICE.
GO TO THE FEED STORE AND ASK FOR THE PRODUCT CALLED "BRONCO" IT
IS A HORSE SPRAY USED FOR FLY CONTROL.
BRONCO WILL KILL ALL THE PESTS AND BUGS ON THE PIGEONS AND IT
WILL NOT HAVE ANY BAD SIDE EFFECTS.
MAKE SURE TO REALLY SOAK THE BIRDS WITH THE SPRAY AND THEN
REPEAT IT AGAIN IN 3-4 DAYS.
ANOTHER OPTION IS TO MIX A SMALL AMOUNT OF MALATHION WITH WATER
AND DUNK THE BIRDS IN IT. MALATHION IS VERY STRONG AND I WOULD
ONLY USE IT IF YOU ARE NOT ABLE TO FIND ANY BRONCO.

Chesley..... years ago, I had a bird with lice. I used a powder
and dusted all my birds and have NEVER had lice again.. It's
been such a long time ago I can't even remember the name of the
dusting powder. Maybe your friend can ask someone at TSC about
this powder. or someone who reads this post might be familiar
with it also. Hope this helps, good luck.
Thom is so right on, 7 power. And you have the answer
to keep them off, bath with bleach works every time.

You are welcome, Paul. In the summer when flies are bad I keep
some suspended in the loft in an old panty hose.
The birds will bump into the bag and self dust keeping all
parisites off and the flies will land on the bag and self
distruct! :)
Take care my friends
HEY THOM, IS THE SEVEN DUST SOMETHING THAT IS OK TO
BREATHE OR WOULD YOU SUGGEST WEARING A MASK IF APPLYING IT TO
THE BIRDS?
THANKS
