I'm not really sure about the candle thing. I guess you light a
candle and hold the egg between you and the candle and look to
see what? What should I see? I know if I hold the egg up to the
sun and it appears clear then it's no good. Is it the same with
a candle?

Just hold the egg up to a light or use a small flashlight to
candle the egg. After about 4-5 days you should see blood
vessels developing inside the egg and after a week the egg
should turn an ivory color. If it doesn't do this then it is
infertile.
