I was wondering today as i was trying to treat a single pigeon
of canker. I dont use it except for cleaning water bottles, but
being debatable by some folk, but if someone used bleach mixed
with water containers for pigeons,,question is would a bird
still get canker ? Chesley

In my opinion, yes. They could still get canker inspite of
chlorine in the water fount. It's thought that almost all
pigeons have it in some amount. So likelyhood is they already
have it and chlorine wouldnt stop its spread.
I think it is better for pigeons to have just a bit of
Trichomoniasis
(canker) so they will build/maintain some immunity. Stress is
the main contributor to an outbreak. Stress can be caused by
poor nutrition, heavy training regimens, moult and raising
offspring. Just keep some Spartrix or ronidazole on hand for
treatment when/if an flare-up occurs.

Thanks for reply wishiwon2 ! Like that handle. I tried Foys for
spartixol and ronidzole, but they are out of stock. I only
have one squab with canker on the inside of left beak. That i
know doesnt rule it out of others. Ive made a concoction of
kitchen match heads in little water in bleach bottle top, put
some foys all in one in there, and sulmet, seems it slowed, but
i need some real kill or cure on hand. preshait ya ! Southern
slang for thank you !!! Chesley

Hey All. Some of the racing men in England and Belgium use
various types of bleach in the water. Mainly it's residue left
from cleaning the drinkers out. You should look on some of the
poultry sites, as they seem to use sanitizers, in the water to
stop the spread of canker, e coli etc. There is a fairly new
product available to pigeon owners, it's come from the poultry
side, and has various claims to stop this and that through water
cross contanination. It's called Solsan. And has claims that it
kills all bacteria found in water drinkers, ie:- E coli,
Streptococcus, Salmonmella, Campylobacter and whole load more.
It's maufactured to full European Union compliance under the
biocides directive!!! It seems pretty impressive stuff. But I'm
not aware if it's available over there in America? You could try
and google solosan or www.aqualution.co.uk
HTML http://www.aqualution.co.uk
. If they can't help you i'm sure
with some internet trolling you could find something just as
useful. Hope i've been helpful, and put you in the right
direction. I myself don't use the product, but it doesn't mean I
wont try it in the future, as I've recently treated my birds for
cancker, cocci and tric, with the new Harkers 3in1 product. I
use a product called Virkon S, to clean my drinkers and fed
troughs, I also put it into a plant sprayer and give the
coo[p/loft a spray after every clean. All the best, Keep them
spinning
