Hey Chesley, I am glad the traps worked out for you. I can not
take credit though, someone on the board posted how to make them
a long time ago. I just appreciated their work and passed the
info along. :)

All my birds are ruby`s and just about all started out tail
riding from the best i own to the one`s that are no longer with
us

Hey Thom , what size of pvc do you use and at what pitch do you
hang them

I use a four inch 45 degree P.V.C. coupling, mounted on a 12
inch X 12 inch 3/4 inch plywood base. I center the coupling on
the plywood and draw around it to form a circle. I then drill a
starter hole and cut out the circle with a scroll saw trimming
until the coupling fits. I drill small holes in the end of the
coupling and mount it flush to the surface of the plywood using
screws. I also use a second 12 inch x 12 inch piece of plywood
mounted with hinges for a landing board. After the birds trap,
the landing board folds up to lock the trap. I use single traps
but I can see where a double would prevent guarding and allow
the birds to go around and trap.

I thought a picture might make the description a little clearer.
Also, when trap training young birds do not allow them to linger
in the trap. It will become a habit and slow down kit trapping.
I take hold of their tail feathers and push gently until they
slide through. Try to locate the trap so that when they look
through they can see the feed tray and other birds eating.
