       albino roller
       By: Flyemhi33 Date: February 29, 2012, 10:03 pm
       ---------------------------------------------------------
We have a young Roller pigeon that appears to be albino. Not
only is it ALL white so far (just barely getting pins) but its
eyes are pink. From what little I know about Albino I assume
that this bird is likely to have vision issues or at the least
be very sensitive to the bright light which I would assume could
affect its flighing/kitting/rolling ability? My main question
       is...

Is this just a freak incident or should the parent birds be
seperated? or even pulled as breaders?

Any oppinions appreciated. Although it is fun and interesteing
to have a rare bird, we are in this for the roll so would hate
to waste time breeding "bad genes" ;)

Did it have a nest mate? Is it with color? That bird should be
flown and if it fly's and kit's and works with the other birds
in the kit, Fly it out it should be fine. 8)

Like I stated before they are barely getting pins but as of
yesterday the nest mate is white too..but seems to have a couple
darker feathers and the eyes are normal. I plan to raise this
bird up and see what happens but am interested in knowing what
the "genetics people" of the site think about the Parents..am I
wasting my time with them and/or should they be split?

one funny thing I notice is that the white birds tend to have
less down when born..the albino was completely bald! :D

No down is a trait of recessive red, yellow, albino. Both
parent's have to carry the recessive gene to pull recessive
       youngsters. [quote author=Flyemhi33

Could you post a picture of your albino roller? I had a similar
roller last breeding season and lost the bird in an over fly due
to bop. I did not realize it was an albino. Most of the babies
from this pair are excellent rollers. Parents are recessive red
cock and white hen with red splash

       and the hen...

I have been asked if they are both almond? not sure, still
learning the colors/markings... any input as to why that would
       matter?

I realize these pictures are awful and I am charging my camera
now will post better pix soon.
